Emile Gaboriau was a 19th century French writer and journalist best known for his detective stories. L'Affaire Lerouge (1866) was his first detective novel. This is one of three novels with a young police officer named Monsieur Lecoq. Monsieur Lecoq was based on a real-life thief turned police officer, Eug‡ne Fran ois Vi docq. In this mystery Gaboriau takes his reader through a series of unexpected twists and turns. Lecop is a colorful character.
