4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery P. I.
Good game, entertaining and suitable for both adults and kids.

As with many of the hidden items type games, the clues become easier to find. That's when, you may need to leave it alone for a month or more to forget the locations and bring back the challenge of the hunt.

The artwork is excellent, and the puzzles add variety.

Having recently discovered the hidden object genre, I was looking for a new challenge and saw the good reviews for "Mystery P.I.: The Lottery Ticket." So I gave it a try, and discovered a really, really average game.

Like most hidden object games, you search a series of still scenes for a list of objects. In between each level, you have a small mini-game to play. The problem with "The Lottery Ticket," though, is that there's no storyline to speak of, and absolutely no sense of progression. Ostensibly you're searching for (yes) a lottery ticket, but you never find any clues, talk to people, investigate anything: you just search and search and search, and at the end of each level you're rewarded with a puzzle piece that won't mean a darned thing until the end of the game. The locations are also pretty limited, and you don't have to do anything to unlock new ones. Early on in the game, I'd explored each location, and then I just kept going back to each one, over and over again. Similarly, the mini-game is always a variation on Concentration, and it didn't seem to get any harder (or more interesting) as I progressed.

As a bonus, each scene contains a hidden key; collect all the keys, and you unlock a non-timed mode in which you can search for every single object in the game. It's an interesting idea, and I might check it out eventually, but for now I'm pretty darned tired of those scenes. Plus, I collected all the keys early on in the game, which ended that fun pretty quickly.

Overall, I don't think this game was bad, really; it was just dull, with no progression at all. If you're new to the genre, I'd recommend the "Mystery Case Files" series to see how these games should be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery PI The Lottery Ticket, August 8, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mystery P.I.: The Lottery Ticket (CD-ROM)
This game is soooooooooo fun. It's one of those Hidden Objects games but with lots of different scenes and mini-games.There are over 2000 different items to find, and if you unlock the Bonus game (by finding keys in each level),when you complete the game you can find all 2000 items at your own pace.
Not that finding the items is difficult when you are timed but it is challenging.I love it!Definately worth the $.
I also love the sequel which is The Vegas Heist,At the end of both games you have to solve a lil Mystery.Nothing too hard, maybe 10 minutes or less, but I just love this game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive Game, October 9, 2008

This game is fun, intriguing, and addictive. The different scenes have several hidden objects to find. The challenge of finding the special "key" in each level makes it addictive. It was quite challenging to find the unlimited hidden items in the Bonus game. As a child, I loved the "Highlight" magazine and this game has brought back many of the memories!

It starts off fairly easy and seems to get harder as the game progresses. You learn to pace yourself and not spend valuable time on one part of the map. You basically find hidden objects in various pictures. It may not be considered highly entertaining but it is still fun. You can play for as long as you like and not lose your place. It is a good clean puzzle picture find game for all ages.

I bought this game based on its good reviews. It is not in the league of the Mystery Case Files series, or even the I SPY computer games, which have very bright and attractive images. A lot of the scenes in this game are just fuzzy and dark. There is no "story-line," like in the Mystery Case Files series and the end "challenge" isn't a challenge. Maybe if this was your first hidden objects game, you would be happy with it, but I would not purchase it if you like either of the other series that I mentioned. You will be disappointed by the quality and content.
