A BIG REVIEW,
By Diane Barut (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Amazing Colossal Man [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I watched this movie when I was a kid, it was amazing! I was too young to notice all the "fake" stuff, but it was one of my favorites. When I watched it with MST3K I almost fell off the couch laughing. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was better than when I first saw it!

Fun way to waste part of a rainy day,

I first saw this movie when I was a kid, and it's cheesiness still holds true today. The acting is more hammy than a deli sandwich, and the "special" effects are great (I love the giant syringe!) The part when our hero walks through Vegas is great, and I still laugh at the look on his face when he sees the giant high heel (very kinky). If you are looking for something scary to watch, this isn't it. It's sequel, "War of the Colossal Beast" reminded me a little of the movie "Cyclops" (that one was scary...when I was 7) and isn't as much fun as this one.

This episode of mst3k represents the best of joel hodgson and his wisecracking robots. This movie has it all: bad special effects, bad acting, bad lighting and a classic 1950's theme (victims of the nuclear age). It's a shame that this episode is no longer in print. This is a must for fans of this televison, cult, classic series.

Hilarious, as usual,

The part where Joel is inside the box, pounding the ceiling, and yelling "I'm huge!" alone makes this worth watching. This is yet another extremely hilarious episode of MST3K

The Amazing Colossal Cheesy Movie,
By
This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Amazing Colossal Man [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A good movie has great special effects, believable characters and situations, and even a touching story. This movie has none of that. What this movie is, is your typical 50's crowd-pleaser, with all of the usual ingredients of a 50's movie, a man deformed, Nuclear scare, effects held together by scotch-tape and velcro, making it an EASY target for Mystery Science Theater 3000, and for those who say that this movie was too bad for MST3K to do, I have one thing to say to you "HUH?" I mean come on, this movie didn't even make the "Golden Turkey Awards", like many of the other good MST3K movies.Movies like this is what MST3K was all about, it's just a shame that this movie can't be re-released on video.I can't wait for Rhino to release the sequel "The War of the Colossal Beast" with [Sigh] "Mr. B Natural", but that's another review all together.

HYSTERICAL SCI-FI!.... WHERE IS THE DVD? CHEESE AT IT'S BEST!,
By
This review is from: The Amazing Colossal Man [VHS] (VHS Tape)
OK, OK This movie is pretty bad, but it is so damn funny, I can't get enough of this or many other 50's Sci-Fi/horror movies! The 50 foot man in a diaper is just too mucking fuch! A classic sci-fi film that I wish was available on DVD! The sequel "War of the Colossal Beast" has been released as a double feature with Earth vs the Spider.?? It would have been great if the two "Colossal" films were released on that double bill!

Top notch 50's sci fi!,

This review is from: The Amazing Colossal Man [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have always loved this old cheesy film! The special effects may be a little shakey, and most of the acting a little stiff, but Glenn Langan, in the title role as the colossal man, gives a great, emotional performance, and sympathy for his character is what really makes the movie work. An absolute classic, and should always be viewed as a double feature with the superior sequel, WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST.

Hello,
Thanks to the divorce of James B. Nickelson (former co-owner of AIP) that happened long ago, his ex-wife Ann, now owns a very small part of the AIP catalog. The Titles she owns are: I Was A Teenahe Werewolf, Teenage Frankenstein, and ..............The Amazing Colossal Man!!! ( She may own a few more) That is why the VHS tapes of those films (released briefly by Columbia Tri-Star) are so rare. They were pulled off the market within days of release. I was a Suncoast Motion Picture Store manager and I rec'd a memo from the home office in Minnetonka, Mn explaining there were litigation and copywrite issues with those titles and to pull them off the shelfs immediately. The same thing happened with the MST 3000 release, it was pulled quickly too. To date Ann Nickelson has showed no interest in releasing these titles. What happened to all those Columbia Tri-Star tapes. They were dumped for $2.99 at Border Books back in 1994-1995. A few of the MST 3000 Amazing Colossal Man tapes where eventually sold thru their old fan club website. |
