This movie must have passed as smutty action when it was originally screened at drive-in theaters, but today it looks tame and would be completely unteachable, were it not for the timeless jokes, quips, and general smart alec interjections of the genius that is Joel Hodgson and his trusty robot sidekicks. What is truly amazing is that MST3K's humor is from a time before the internet, before smart phones, and largely even before what we know as the modern computer, yet somehow the jokes are not dated, and the humor is still there, even after more than 20 years.

A prison break movie about four scantily clad, escaped female convicts fighting their way through a swamp? How can this possibly be boring?!? Oh wait, it's a Roger Corman picture. Never mind.

That's why SWAMP DIAMONDS, aka SWAMP WOMEN (1955) falls so flat -- a sleazy exploitation film is thoroughly Cormanized, that is, shot on the cheap in record time, without a trace of interest on the part of the director, who was lining up his next project in his head rather than thinking about the one he was working on now. Even Beverly Garland as a kill-crazy psycho and film noir queen Marie Windsor as a hardboiled bottle blonde can't raise this movie to the level of "interesting."

Joel does a good job with this thin material (including all the "Touch" Connors jokes you can stand), but this isn't an episode you'll want to return to very often; hell, you'll barely remember it. It doesn't help that the feature is blown away by the short, "What to Do on a Date," in which two gawky young squares feel the stirrings of first love. The riffing is magnificent.

Yup, another fine job from the SOL crew dissin a horrible film with Mike "Touch"Conners...the short is great to help one learn what to do on a date. Think they ought to re-show this to kids these days.. ;-)
