4.0 out of 5 stars An odd assortment, November 27, 2001
This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Creeping Terror/Bloodlust/Sidehackers (Box Set) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Taken individually, these three MST3K episodes are quite good (I've reviewed each episode more thoroughly on each video's own page). If you want a volume discount on purchasing MST videos, this is the way to go.

I have to say that, were I putting together a 3-pack combo, I don't know that I would have chosen to put these particular ones together. 'Sidehackers' was the second show in Season Two -- early MST, in other words. 'Creeping Terror' and 'Bloodlust,' however, aired back-to-back in Season Six. I might have substituted a Season Four episode for one of those, or replaced 'Sidehackers' with another Season Six show to make the combo a tight focus on one season.

But nobody asked me.

Whatever the reasons these three were put together, you won't go wrong with any of these three episodes. While not the absolute best shows of any of their seasons, they are all above average. And given how tremendously good an 'average' MST episode was, 'above average' is definitely worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 STARS!, July 16, 2000
This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Creeping Terror/Bloodlust/Sidehackers (Box Set) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Viewers who only know the show from its sci fi channel incarnation can't have a true appreciation of it. This set of tapes will give them that. These three episodes are examples of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 at its best. All the usual hallmarks are here, the diverse cultural references, the unique combination of scathing wit and absurdity. Buy them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from a diehard fan!, January 13, 2001
This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Creeping Terror/Bloodlust/Sidehackers (Box Set) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First, I've been a MST3K fan since COMEDY CENTRAL was called the HA! network. Since 1989 or 1990. I have about 80% of the episodes on tape and 1 on DVD. I also have THE MOVIE on DVD. In my list of favorite shows MST3K is #1, followed by the British Sci-Fi comedy show Red Dwarf (also available on VHS).

Now, this collection is a fun triple feature. I'd begin with the 4-star rated SIDEHACKERS. It may be the first truly funny episode of the series (second epsiode of the second season) complete with Joel and the bots. Then, the 5-star rated Creeping terror. This is also a good episode to introduce people to the show. This time Mike & the bots trash what is essentially one of the worst flicks of all time. This is easy fodder for them. My favorite riff is: "He's making his own gravy!" End it on the 4-star Bloodlust. Complete with Mr. Brady himself! These four clueless kids are funny without Mike & the Bots! They remind me of Scooby and the gang or Josey and the Pussycats. Hilarious stuff!

"Creeping" is a personal all-time favorite of mine. I'm still waiting for them to release "The Time Of The Apes" on DVD. I'd buy 2 copies if they would just do it!! Come on Rhino!

Thanks to my sister for getting this wonderful collection for me for Christmas!!

4.0 out of 5 stars You rarely go wrong with these guys, February 6, 2003

This review is from: Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Creeping Terror/Bloodlust/Sidehackers (Box Set) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This 3-pack extravaganza features one mini-budget monster-turkey, one truly rotten exploitation movie, and a badly underwritten "Most dangerous game"-clone of little intrinsic value. Still, in the expert hands of Joel, Mike and the Bots, two of these are turned into cinematic gold. "Bloodlust" is beyond rescue, it's not funny and no-one can make it appear so.

Creeping Terror is perhaps the greatest of all Mike Nelson episodes, a laugh-fest of awesome power. Fantastic host segments.

Sidehackers is trashy and fun, great riffing, the sketches are not so good.
All in all, 4 stars. If you're on a budget, Creeping Terror is the one to buy separately.
