From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6-- In a private girl's school in Maryland, Darcy Verona, 13, finds the ingredients for the third case of the Monster Hunters Club. Unexplainable events--flying strawberries, strange tappings, a mysterious code written on stable walls, and a runaway horse--all directed at her roommate, Ro, convince Darcy that a poltergeist is at work. Aided by fellow members, Brian and Numbles, Darcy unravels the mystery surrounding her roommate and the tragic boating accident that killed Ro's family. The code, an important part of the mystery, becomes lost in the jumble, and at climax, everything falls conveniently into place. The supernatural, the code, and the young detectives should have great appeal to children, but this is a fairly typical series mystery, moving jerkily from start to finish without much character development. A possible addition for libraries in which others in the series have been popular. --Molly Kinney, North Dade Regional Library, Miami, FL
