This book is about how we are to bear one anothers burdens. God has designed some of us with a highly sensitive nervous system that allows us to empathize on deep levels with God and others.

Illuminating Read,

This review is from: The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity (Paperback)
Ever feel like an emotional sponge? When you hang out with someone who is stressed do you ever "soak" up their drama? Or have you ever met someone and get a "vibe" that they have issues going on - their exterior looks happy but you just get a feeling that they're really upset on the inside?
If that type of scenario sounds familiar you'll want to read this book! All my life I've had a "sense" about people. I've been able to pick up "vibes." I always thought it was weird and just tried to ignore it. After reading this book I realize being highly sensitive is common. After reading this book I realize it's not weird; it's just the way I'm wired! Finally - I understand now what's going on and not only how to cope but how to thrive. I liked the way the author took spiritual concepts and made them easy to understand. I appreciated the combination of spiritual and scientific data. The book was an easy read. You'll want to read it once for yourself and if you are at all like me you'll reread it for someone you know that is a highly sensitive person. I feel like now I have a better understanding not only of myself, but also of some of my family members, a coworker, a client, and a few of my friends.

This book is for anyone who thinks they may be a burden bearer. For years, I had wondered why I sensed emotions that were not my own. Now I know for certain I have the gift of burden bearing. This book gave a great deal of insight into what this gift entails. The best part is a section with really great prayers about how to release emotional baggage. It has wonderful advice on how to best use the gift without letting yourself getting spiritually drained.

I have found Carol Brown's book "The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity" to be the premier information base for understanding this topic. Many people who fall into this category often have no recourse or support and think they are simply irreparably different than others in their life. After reading this in depth, thorough coverage of the topic one will walk away with a great appreciation for themselves and others plus many many tools to bring fulfillment to key areas of your life you might have thought would never make sense. I have enjoyed, learned from and been impacted by the book so much that I recommend it as an (owners manual) for my spiritually sensitive friends and family and those that live with them. Fantastic Book!

Known!,

This review is from: The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity (Paperback)
It is the most encouraging thing in the world to come across a book where the author has captured your own life in the pages you read! For the first time in my life,I felt that someone really understood what made me tick-that I was "known." And she was a complete stranger!
I had always known that in some way, I "knew"-- on some intuitive level-- people that I had just met. And this was true even with individuals to whom I'd been in relationship with for years. I also knew that I "carried" others' problems and troubles, sometimes to the point where it even affected my physical body. In Carol Brown's book, she taught me about burden-bearing; burdens to which I had been "assigned," and those I needed to release. After this wonderful book, I have been able to seperate which burdens to keep in prayer and which ones to let go (I'm still learning!) I highly recommend this book by Carol Brown. It has changed my life, setting me free from false responsibility, and "unredeemed burden-bearing," and to recognize the areas for which I do need to carry a burden for someone until God releases me.

This book is an excellent introduction to the subject. It will reassure the spiritually sensitive person that they are not crazy or deformed, and will help them navigate the minefield of other people's feelings to a place of blessing and confidence. Practical and Scriptural, outlining the purpose of this wonderful gift and how to exercise it safely and effectively. Brown writes from a background of personal experience and Christian orthodoxy but welcomes the role of the human imagination submitted to God. This book will be especially helpful to people who are afraid of or confused by their experiences on religious grounds. It is a handbook to re-read many times and learn from. I also recommend Brown's second book "Highly Sensitive", focused more on the practical aspects of living in a world that is sometimes too intense.
