Funny, funny, funny! These former fart joke writing, comedic sketch making actors really show their stuff in this genius idea of these kid detectives continuing their service as they graduate from high school. Donald Glover, (known for Community) really shows his acting skills as he acts as an innocent kid, protecting the world from sex, drugs, and swear words. If you like Derrick Comedy, you'll love their feature length movie "The Mystery Team."

All-Star quotes:
"The stage is wet and smells like cold cuts!"
"Chocolate milk just taste better than regular milk."
"Dad, mom wants me to go to a party with girls; isn't that gross?"

An ambitious, never boring independent comedy with a ton of really funny scenes and a great cast. Buy this DVD or continue being a communist.

My favorite comedies tend to be absurd comedies; movies where things happen that are so outside reality that you can just enjoy the trip on which the filmmakers are taking you. Great examples from the last 10+ years include Wet Hot American Summer, Black Dynamite, The Ten, and Hot Rod.

Add to that canon the hilarious and surprisingly effective Mystery Team.

Brought to you from DerrickComedy, the YouTube sketch troupe headed most famously by Donald Glover (of Community fame), Mystery Team is clearly a labor of love, a group of friends coming together to make a movie for the fun of making movies. And it really shows.

The story follows three former boy detectives who're approaching the end of high school, and are stuck in the stasis of their childhood fame. Just as they're approaching the end of their partnership, they're approached with a big case: A murder. Setting out to solve a grown-up crime using their kid-detective methods provides the film's insane comic premise.

What's most impressive about this film, apart from the hilarious script that's endlessly quotable, is the technical skill that went into making it. I was struck on the third or fourth viewing with the camerawork. It's often very adventurous, and renders colors gorgeously. It's the small but essential things like this, this attention to detail, that makes an already good movie great.

Comedy fans will recognize many familiar faces as well: Aubrey Plaza, Bobby Moynihan, Dotcom (from 30 Rock), Matt Walsh, and several others.

I recommend Mystery Team to anyone who loves the smarter side of absurdist comedy, a genre often marred with comparisons to schlock like Epic Movie and the Happy Gilmore productions. I could watch it a dozen times, and find new things to laugh about every time. It's a great piece of underground comedy lore, one you're almost guaranteed to enjoy if you give it a chance.

I feel like some people don't "get" humor-jokes, y' know? Some people can't see right past the surface of things, I suppose. If you can't see past the poopy-doody-cocky-doody of a sophisticated poopy-doody-cocky-doody joke (yea, I sure did just say "sophisticated") then you should probably stay away from this - and if you can't agree that such a thing exists you should probably stop reading this review.

The crew (Derrick) that put this together is littered all over NBC's Thursday night line up as writers and actors (not too shabby at all). You'll notice a few notable comic cameos as well. If you are watching this flick and don't recognize anyone then the chances are you aren't really into funny things much. You should probably watch some more safely formulated sitcoms on the CBS line-up (not to say that CBS is the only one with those - they're just the easiest to point out).

Enough people have talked about plot and what-not. I'm just going to point out some more movies 'n' television that if'n you like 'em you probz want to check this here Mystery Teamz out: Hamlet 2, Wet Hot American Summer, Monty Python (any/all), The Tramp, Spaced, The Young Ones, The Honeymooners, Dark Crystal, THX 1138, Upright Citizen's Brigade, Kids In the Hall, and I Need That Record.

I saw this movie a year ago and was a little sketchy on the story line and how it would be carried out for a good hour and a half. When I first saw it with my friends, we laughed so hard we had to rewind it at parts. This movie was so oddly original that it boggled my mind how not a lot of people know about it. I also like how it has the characters have a child like sense of wonder throughout the film, it really gave the movie something that any other crime comedy never had before. I highly recommend giving this movie a watch.

This is an odd ball over the top, laugh out loud original comedy. Three high school boys who do not know the facts of life operate a dime stand kids detective agency. Jason (Donald Glover) is the master of disguises. He is a naive, nerdy, non-street smart Axel Foley. Duncan (D.C. Pierson) is the brains of the group because in the second grade he memorized a book of trivia. Charlie (Dominic Dierkes) is the muscle in the group, because he thinks he is tough.

They ride bicycles with white wall tires and communicate with walkie-talkies. When an 8 year old girl hands them a dime and asks them to find out who killed her parents, our heroes get way over they head as the comedy becomes non-stop. The trip to the gentleman's club was the funniest scenes in the film. Think of it as Napoleon Dynamite for adults.

PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bombs, sex talk, nudity.
