Book Description

Urban Soul September 1, 2006
After a long and stressful day of work as a bank teller, 27-year old Maria McCory's only desire--a relaxing evening at home. Her evening and her world are shattered when an intruder commits a vicious and unthinkable offense, violating the essence of her womanhood then leaving her to fight for her life.

Rowan Miller, the responding paramedic, finds and empathizes with Maria and is perplexed by his immediate emotional connection to her. Following his initial encounter he finds himself wrestling with and questioning his sporadic thoughts of Maria, despite his two-year, yet unfulfilling interracial relationship with his girlfriend, Vickie. Rowan seizes the opportunity to befriend Maria when he learns that she has suffered yet another life-altering event; the only mother she's ever known unexpectedly passes away. Maria is accepting of the platonic friendship, understanding that Rowan is involved. Even so, her heart secretly longs for Rowan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable....., May 17, 2011

This review is from: Mystery of a Woman (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
I almost did not read this book because of Dea Shay's review, but I took a chance and I was glad I did. There were a few slow moments but overall the book was good. To me it was easy to keep up with the characters and the story easy to understand. I believe the mystery for Rowan was what was it about Maria that kept him coming back to her. He did not understand logically, he just knew she was the one. I appreciated the fact that a true friendship developed over a period of time although the chemistry was there for both characters. You don't see that much in novels. Good job, Ms. Peay.

1.0 out of 5 stars Still a Mystery, March 15, 2007
This review is from: Mystery of a Woman (Urban Soul) (Paperback)
This book is still a mystery to me. It took me three days to read it, because I kept re-reading sections to try to comprehend the meaning. Never have I had this much trouble with a book (Beloved was less complicated). I'm still trying to understand the premise of the book and 'why' the main character Maria is a mystery. Hopefully this book will have a sequel and it will better tie together loose ends that started in the beginning of Chapter 1 to the end.
