4.0 out of 5 stars Authenticity and Romance - one of Bittner's Best
Rosanne Bittner has returned to writing about our Native culture in Mystic Dreamers. For those of us who have read and loved Song of the Wolf, this is a long overdue wait. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lakota
This is a Native American book about the Lakota culture. I found it interesting and it had a good plot. I question the theme of the conflict between the Indians and the White man. It will be interesting to read the books that will follow. By Ruth Thompson author of "The Bluegrass Dream" and "Natchez Above The River"

4.0 out of 5 stars Authenticity and Romance - one of Bittner's Best, January 22, 2000

This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)
Rosanne Bittner has returned to writing about our Native culture in Mystic Dreamers. For those of us who have read and loved Song of the Wolf, this is a long overdue wait. Because I am Native American myself, I look for authenticity and am usually disappointed at stereotyping and less than accurate depictions of my people. Bittner is a rare romance writer who seems to care about making the Indian, a human with strengths and failures, who love and hate and feel. I really enjoyed this book but I miss the depth that is missing that was in Song of the Wolf or Montana Woman. An extra hundred pages of depth to the plot, and yes, the characters would have been most welcome. However, if you love romance, Bittner should be your first choice. -

I am a definate Rosanne Bittner fan. I am not a romance novel reader but I am a historical romance fan now thanks to Rosanne Bittner. Being Native American myself I enjoy Rosanne's books when both main characters are native american. Rosanne has done a wonderful job, she has done alot of research and with the detail she is truly able to bring her stories alive for you the reader. I highly recommend Mystic Dreamers and Song of the Wolf. I am searching for more, hopefully Rosanne will keep them coming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entranced, June 24, 2001

This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)
I have been intereted in Native American culture as of late. I found this book on sale and decided to give it a try. It turns out it was a great purchase. I could not put the book down. The romantic side of the story and the realism kept me reading and in a few days I was through and wishing I had Mystic Warriors to keep reading the story. The writing style made me feel as though I was there. I am now an avid fan of Rosanne Bittner and have just ordered Mystic Dreamer and plan to read as many of her books as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, April 24, 2000
By
Stalking Wolf's vision told him to seek out the woman, Star Dancer, who was blessed by the White Buffalo. Their marriage did not begin in love. They were two strangers destined to lead the Lakota to a better and stronger future.

Fall Leaf Woman and Gray Owl were the only ones who did not embrace the couple in welcome. Despite their greed for revenge and jealousy, they must learn that the Spirits will always do whatever is needed to ensure the survival of the People.

*** The first of a new Mystic series! It has been years since I have found such an amazing author as this! It follows history closely. Shows how things were made and the pride of ceremonies. I did not realize how much I was learning about the Lakota because I was deep into the story of this incredible couple! This one has just been released in paperback. The next of this series will be released in May in hardback and titled "Mystic Visions". I will have the review up within a few more days. Don't miss Mystic Dreamers! ***

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Novel, July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)
This was one of the best books I have read in a while. I read it cover-to-cover in only 2 DAYS!! I couldn't put it down once I started! A truly magical story of love and hate, revenge, and pride. Definitely what I would term as a "page-turner"! I can't wait to read her other stories, especially the next book in this series.

Rosanne Bittner is one of my favorites so it wasn't hard to jump right in and start reading. This I consider a good start to a trilogy that follows with two more books. I thought it interesting that elements of Magical Realism, more often found in Latin American literature, were found in this novel. It actually surprised me..........though it was appropriate and added so much to the novel. Without it, the novel would really be just like any other American Indian story. Good Read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is another Bittner page-turner!, June 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)
The story of Stalking Wolf and Star Dancer is a compelling look at life among the Lakota before the white man stole it away. The romantic elements are poignant and realistic, as are other relationships. If you read and enjoyed Song of the Wolf, the first book I read by Bittner and which made me a fan, you will love this!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, April 17, 1999
This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)
I loved "Mystic Dreamers", but then there hasn't been a book written by Bittner that didn't keep me up late into the night reading. Not only is this full of romance, but it's got lots of information on the Lakota culture. I must admit I was wondering how well I would like it - I didn't want to read a history book. I can't believe we have to wait until April of 2000 to read the next book. I will be one of the first to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent and warm Native American historical romance, February 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystic Dreamers (Hardcover)

In 1832 Black Hills the sacred Feathered one visits Runs With Deer in a vision. The sacred Feathered One informs the Oglala warrior that he must marry the woman who touched the rare white buffalo. His name changed to Stalking Wolf due to the vision, Runs With Deer heads to another tribe in the Lakota Nation. He seeks the hand of Star Dancer of the Sichangu tribe, who has touched the white buffalo. Stalking Wolf barters with Star Dancer's father, Looking Horse, in order to obtain Star Dancer as his wife.

However, another Sichangu tribesman Kicking Bear interrupts the festivities with an offer of his own to wed her. Following tribal tradition, Looking Horse sets up a contest in which the warrior who returns first with a bear skin wins the hand of Star Dancer. Kicking Bear dies honorably in the attempt while a wounded Stalking Bear succeeds. A saddened Star Dancer honors her father's commitment and weds the winner. Even as she falls in love with him, she informs him that this marriage is a waste of both their energies.. Still, forces beyond the mortal plane are at work to insure this duo completes their geas to save the Lakota Nation from the intrusion of the white man.

Rosanne Bittner has a high standing among readers as one of the top writers of Native American romances. Her latest tale MYSTIC DREAMERS augments that worthy esteem. The story line is a reader's dream of a novel because the early nineteenth century life of the Lakota Nation is vividly on display within a stunning romance. The intelligent lead protagonists are warm and charming, while the support cast enhances the authenticity of the novel. Ms. Bittner scores with another winning romance.
