1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me.
This album seems to lack direction. It's a fusion of rock and pop, laced with some ambient samples here and there, and heavily laden with Gregorian POP chants. If that's not annoying enough, I found one song remincent of Eminem's singing (talking) on "Stan".

Basically, this album is a mish-mash of different genre's that just don't work...at least for...

THE EYES MAY BE THE DOORWAY TO THE SOUL but the voice is the chariot to the heavens...

Lesiem's MYSTIC SPIRIT VOICES took many by storm with this enchanting yet sinister album of a world trapped between the darkness and GOD. One second the atmosphere will be light and simple with the next being dark and heavy. This may be a spiritual journey but it's definitely not your average church music. In fact, in the eyes of some purists (and I mean PURISTS!) this might be shunned for it can be rather cold at times (aka, "Mater Gloria"). Songs like the uplifting, almost regae sounding "Indalo", however, always succeed in melting away the ice. The mystic-pop reminisance of ENIGMA with the Gregorian chantings reminisant to ERA always bring light to the surface with entrancing male choirs, Pink-Floyd-esqued guitars and worldbeat loop to loops exhilerating the experience of this well-executed album. There is even some feminine presence here on the spoken "Open Your Eyes", the soulful "Liberta", the trip-hoppy "Miracle Eyes" as well as the operatic "Mater Gloria". The best song, however, would have to be their single, "Fundamentum" which is absolutely stunning. The way they ended the CD too was really quite clever with the mixture of Gregorian chantings with the celtic/pink floyd influenced "Ave Fortuna". I mean, ENIGMA is one of my favorite bands but if you think that they're the best in its genre than think again - for you obviously haven't heard Lesiem before!

This is HIGHLY recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars ~Heavenly~, June 18, 2002

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Mystic Spirit Voices (Audio CD)
It's been ages since I've found anything so soothing or invigorating to my stifled old spirit as Lesiem's heavenly music. Their sound is quenching to the soul that thirsts for enlightening meditation. Though it is somewhat within the same tradition as Enigma, I was very pleased to find it a more ingenious fusion of the worldly and the ethereal. This is passionate music endowed with an array of instruments: keyboards, drums, wind and string - including guitar - such lovely accompaniments to the otherworldly voices of the predominantly male choir. Herein are soaring, uplifting solo vocals as well as enchanting Gregorian chants. Tracks #7, "Liberta", and #9, "Una Terra" are especially beautiful.

This is music to read by, write by, work by, and meditate by. It's a spiritual feast that seems touched by a higher power ~~~

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic, Exquisite, Sensuous, and Consciousness-Expanding!!, May 16, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mystic Spirit Voices (Audio CD)
This beautiful CD is a delight to the eyes, ears, senses, and soul. The packaging is as beautiful as the sound, and both are deeply spiritual. Looking at the lush images -- while being in the moment and, at the same time, being open to be taken on the journey where the music impels -- is a lush, dynamic meditation that takes one through the portal into another time and space. Once one has begun listening to music that expands the consciousness, there is no going back, and if this music is lacking, there is a real yearning and longing for the experience. This CD fulfills that longing exquisitely and very beautifully, and it expands one's horizons as well. Some of these songs are in English -- how fortunate we are! But listening to ancient Gregorian chant in Latin is a humbling, yet very profoundly empowering experience. Add to that the experience of hearing that music set in THIS millennium and accompanied with music from THIS century, and, well - the sum of those two is MANY times the parts.

The genre of music to which this CD belongs is deeply inspiring and profoundly moving. Experiencing it is a transformational experience which enables an individual in one's own evolution. This CD deserves a HUGE forum, because it is not a cheap imitation of Enigma like a lot of music that is hyped by the record industry. This is an exquisitely beautiful and moving compilation of music which has been wonderful executed in its own setting and not as an imitation of anything else. Buy it, and prepare yourself for the wonderful, profound, and humbling-but-empowering journey it will create to another time and space. Highly, Highly Recommended!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Enigma....equal to Era, October 2, 2004
By
This review is from: Mystic Spirit Voices (Audio CD)
I am a fan of both Enigma, Delerium and Era that have used the melodic blending of gregorian chants with their prospective music. On a whim I clicked on the Lesiem site and heard some samples of the music and had to order myself this CD. What did I think after the first listen?

Fantastic, actually brilliant. Lesiem, the German vocal group have excelled in provoking great latin gregorian chants from a choir full of learned monks. Lesiem is mystical, Lesiem is Spiritual to a exciting level and the voices are devine. The chants are used much more professionally than in Enigma and Lesiem has become a hit with me.

Open Your Eyes...wonderful blend of latin chant with a splendid fill in musuc.

Vivere and Occultum....pure genious in the way the gregorian chant and music interact with each other.

Fundamentum....my personal favourite, I love deep beats and strong latin chants.

Una Terra and Liberta...two more tracks that hold the essence of mysticism and an aura of humanity.

A must for all Latin Chant fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL FEAST FOR THE SENSES., March 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystic Spirit Voices (Audio CD)
If you're looking for something a bit different and not another from the ever growning list of Enigma wannabe's who seem to have little or no depth let alone character then get your teeth stuck into Lesiem's Mystic Spirit Voices.

What you have here is Pink Floyd meets Gregorian Chant and boy is it good! Full bodied and meaty (sorry vegetarians but this is a real landlubbers CD).

There are no weedy stop-gap tracks on the album. Just lush vibrant melodies and superb vocals which delight the senses. Fundamentum is a prime example.

One could say this album is how Enigma and Delerium may evolve in time to come. For those of you out there who are on the same wavelength as me (and yes, I'm talking to you) you'll know what I mean.

If you like this album then try Lesiem's other two. Chapter 2 and Times are available through Amazon.com Germany ...Don't delay just buy. You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars An aura of peace !, September 11, 2003
By
This review is from: Mystic Spirit Voices (Audio CD)
Another star in the New Age music! I found this album in a Spiritual Shop in Montreal. It attracted my ears, and I asked a woman about it then she showed me the title of the CD. After a long search in many music stores, I finally found it !

(Ave fortuna) (Miracle eyes) (Lesiem) (Matar Gloria) (Una Terra) (Vivere) are really relaxing, and somehow I feel peace when listening to them.

(Fundamentum) is one of my favorite songs. (Liberta) is also good. Both remind me of the ancient armies & wars!

(Occultum) combines a male vocal singer (in English) with the choir. (Open your eyes) combines a female vocal singer (in English) with the choir. Both songs are very good.

Discover the spiritual world of Lesiem and take a journey through mystic spirit voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lesiem, Mystic Spirit Voices: Entrancement, November 24, 2002

I was recently doing a bit of browsing in a Barnes & Nobles Bookstore in Stockton, where I work. Just as I was about to head out of store and towards my station, I tuned into the music which was playing on the speakers in the store. I at first, thought it was from the soundtrack of one movie or another, since many modern movies use these kinds of tunes during dramatic moments. But, as the music transitioned onto the next track, I realized that this was a full collection of these beautiful songs. I went to the music counter to inquire as to who this was, and received my answer: Lesiem. This talented group of individuals has taken the beauty of both the Latin language and of a formal Gregorian mass and combined them into a trully original and pleasing work of art. I have often found myself traveling thirty miles to the nearest Gregorian church to hear this kind of beauty, and now, I have it here in my home. I have never been more pleased with a music purchase, and have never been happy with an entire CD, now, I am.

I first heard of this group from a friend that bought a copy...As always i am skeptical at first when i hear of new bands with a new sound, but my friend insisted i hear Lesiem. On my way home from work i decided to put in Mystic Spirit Voices and see what the hype was all about.I got chills from the first guitar lick and the infectious rhythms and vocals of the first track called Lesiem!!Then the second track made me melt with female vocals(Celine Dionish) and spanish guitar over it with gregorian chants and melodies all over the place.Another song i loved was Miracle Eyes which just brought my love for catchy pop hooks with melodies and world sounds into one beautifully well crafted song.I just wanted to say it's always refreshing to hear something well done and well written these days with all the garbage on the radio. Lesiem captured my attention and has a new fan that will be singing to and fro while commuting to work everyday.
Thank You for such a beautiful cd.
