5.0 out of 5 stars One of Three 6's best.
Long before Three 6 were proclaiming how fly-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai they are, they were making some of the darkest music found in the hip-hop genre. 5.0 out of 5 stars One of Three 6's best., October 19, 2006
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
Long before Three 6 were proclaiming how fly-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai they are, they were making some of the darkest music found in the hip-hop genre. While it maybe a coincidence that their name is the Three 6 Mafia, as they've profusely stated, that coincidence isn't evident on this release; this stuff is downright creepy. This is the type of music that sends chills down your spine, like a great horror movie.

Are they horrorcore? In ways, yes. In ways, also, no. Their initial style of rapping is far more akin to the Mid-West high-cadence flow, while their lyrics and production are both rooted in horrorcore. Like Esham in Detroit, and Brother Lynch Hung in Sacramento, the Three 6 presented to you some of the most sadistic messages found on wax.

Even though they beefed with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in the past, it's easy for any Bone fan to get into Three 6's music; infact, more so than someone who is a stranger to the multiple cadences found here. They rip through to tracks at lightning fast speed, with hardcore lyrics that just tear the beat to shreds; and DJ Paul and Juicy J sure do provide some amazing production. While the music on this album is of lower-quality(due to poor budget) than their later releases, the homemade sound of the beats actually fit this album like a glove; and there is a hint of the sound that Three 6 would become famous for.

Every song on here is classic, so it's hard to find a standout. If I had to choose some, Live By Yo Rep would definitely be at the top of that list; a scorching diss aimed at Bone, in which Lord Infamous opens the first verses threatening to put thousands of razors in their flesh. Other tracks like F'in' Witdis Click, Break Da Law '95, Porno Movie, Big Bizness, Now I'm High Pt. III, and Long Nite are just a few of the continuous highlights found through the album.

This is a must for any fan of hardcore hip-hop, Southern hip-hop, Mid-West hip-hop, or horrorcore; infact, any fan of hip-hop could appreciate this album. An overlooked masterpiece, and one of the best to ever come from the South.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums Ever!!!!!!!!, May 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
Every song on here is a classic!! I love this cd to death!! Three 6 Mafia had the evil, dark sound back in 1995 and were on Prophet Entertainment when this came out. This is by far their best album. You will never hear another album like this in your life. This is the best album ever made along with Master P's "Ice Cream Man." This album is definitely not for the kiddies or the faint at heart. For everyone else that likes dark melodies from some tight rappers, get this album now!!! You will not regret it, trust me!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Debut Album From Three 6 Mafia, July 11, 2006
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
There is no reason why this album is not a classic. Three 6 Mafia are some of the earliest pioneers that put the South on the map and people don't realize it. This album has some crazy production as well as dope lyrics and hooks. The rapping is highly original and was the first time this style was done in rap when this dropped. Also, you can tell that Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony actually did sound similar with this album. If you like rap music, especially crunk or dirty south, then go pick this one up now!

TOP TRACKS:
Break Da Law
Live By Yo Rep
Tear Da Club Up
Big Bizness
Da Summa

4.0 out of 5 stars Three 6's stand out debut!, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
This classic Three 6 album as it was originally released by Prophet Entertainment (which would become Hypnotize Minds a few years later)stands as the culmination of DJ Paul and Juicy 'J''s years of littering the underground with a succession of multiple mix tapes and early ep's, most of which can be found on the Underground albums released in '99 and 2000. 'Mystic Stylez' continues in the same aesthetic of those original underground releases. This was Three 6 Mafia in a time when their music and lyrics were much darker and more serious than later releases. That's not to say there isn't a hint of that old deranged Three 6 humor in their, but the focus is mainly on minimalistic, dark satanic imagery lending itself largely to the "Horrorcore" rap genre of the early to mid-90's, and frighteningly explicit and violent lyics based largely in Gangsta rap elevated by more references to the occult and with their signature delivery. Fans of later Three Six material might be surprised to here a group of rappers not playing it for laughs on this record. Eventually this album was rereleased on Hypotize Minds, but the tracks are completely rearranged, some songs removed I believe, and remastered with a cleaner production thus ruining the underground quality of the release and ultimately ruining a classic album. Please seek out the Prophet Entertainment version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, August 2, 2006
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
the music found on here (courtesy of dj paul and juicy j, who are still one of the best groups in hip-hop today) is very dark and sounds a lot like bone thugs did on "east 1999". the difference here is that three 6 is more rugged and crunk instead of melodic and lyrical. bone and three 6 always get compared due to their fued, which ultimately three 6 mafia won (check out "live by yo rep").

bone thugs is one of the top hip-hop groups of all time and their early work is untouchable (only topped by nwa and the wu-tang clan), but three 6 has an outstanding career. bone had 2 cds and an ep from 94-97 that were classic, but three 6 has been consistently one of the best groups in hip-hop for over 10 years. this album proves it, a debut with banging beats from two of the best producers around and nice lyrics from a good crew.

check out "da summer", "mystic stylez", "live by yo rep", and "tear da club up" specifically, and if you like those check out the whole album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Triple 6's classic debut, July 2, 2006

This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
Damm, this album is still fire after all these years....Yeah, the production sounds a bit outdated, but its still raw, laid-back, and original....

This album set 3-6 apart from other rap crews...I gotta admit back in the 90s I was a bigger fan of Bone, but 3-6 ripped them apart w/ "Live by Yo Rep" ....And over the years, I've come to realize that 3-6 was much, much more talented and superior to Bone (I still love old school Bone tho)....And as a big fan of both, I can tell you that they are both very different from eachother...

Back to the album...."Da Summer" might be one of my all time favorite songs....Very, very laid-back groove that puts you in a summer atmosphere....Makes you feel like its a lazy hot summer day and you're just riding around hollering at the girls and what not.....

Other highlites are 'Back against the wall' 'Live by Yo Rep' and 'All or nothing'....But chyeah, the whole album is laid-back....

And yeah, 3-6 is a bit misogynist and raunchy, so don't buy it if you can't handle that in music....So if you're down with hot beats and raw lyrics, this is a must-have...

4.0 out of 5 stars Satan Rap, April 23, 2006
This review is from: Mystic Stylez (Audio CD)
There is nothing like a good satanic rap album to warm your heart. This thing is off the hook. I just got this a couple a weeks ago. I didn't know this is what three 6 mafia was about. Poppin my collar is a cool song but it, is comercial. This is the complet opposite they sound like bone. Its dark the sound quality is not the best but you really won't care. I you like dark rap you'll feel this. If you want things on the lighter side stick to whatever is popular at the moment. Rap cd suggestion, Brotha Lynch Hung season of the siccness. I'm out.
