Classic Occult Literature,
By Viscount St. Christopher (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mystic Test Book of the Hindu Occult Chambers (Paperback)
This was an excellent book. I think it is a classic of occult literature. Kessinger has exactly captured the original even with orginal graphics. L.W. DeLaurence was a true mystic in his day, and this book is an excellent example of the prevailing practices and mystic thoughts of the early 20th Century. It is not a flashy book with color photos but it teaches solid practices for any aspiring occultist. If you wish to truly develop your clairvoyant abilities, this book may prove very helpful.

This review is from: The Mystic Test Book of the Hindu Occult Chambers (Hardcover)
L. W. de Laurence was a popular writer of occult literature around the turn of the 20th century. In this book he delves into the magic and occultism of India, highlighting such topics as Hindu and Egyptian Crystal Gazing, the Wonders of the Hindu Magic Mirror, Clairvoyant Vision, and Spirit and Astral Sight. The style of writing is penetrating at times and you feel as if you are being led through a maze of valuable gems of wisdom, piece by piece. The book is well printed and the enlarged print makes it a dream to read. You'll be inspired by this masterful treatment of ancient wisdom.

I bought this to study the connection between Hindu & Egyptian mysticism and mirror mythology, but was very disappointed. It's mostly wishy-washy vagaries about getting a person in touch with the astral plane. There's very little reliable referencing to actual ancient beliefs, and instead sounds more like Delaurence was attempting to fuse different systems he'd studied into some new, simplified route to "enlightenment". It would be more appropriate to call it "The Wanna-Be-Genuine Psychics Text Book". Who knows, maybe those looking for such a book would benefit.
