5.0 out of 5 stars The E-Myth Book Changed My Business
Michael Gerber, unknown to me until I read this book, is now at the top of my "Read Again" list.

Gerber's approach is simple: Any business of any kind can be made "owner-friendly" by the simple adoption of the same principles used in successful franchise operations such as McDonalds, etc. In a lyric, almost poetic presentation, Gerber leads a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Audio version is dreadful - BOOK is great!
I have given the lowest possible rating to the cassette version of this book. It is abridged - poorly! Very boring and sounds like an infomercial for his services rather than the inspiring, sound information of the book. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the TAPED VERSION!

1.0 out of 5 stars Only an outline. Not much meat on the tape, July 18, 2001
This review is from: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It (Audio Cassette)
I was very dissappointed in the audio version. Having never read the book and hearing lots of raves, I was expecting much more. He gave a very breif outline, then spent the last 5 minutes in an advertisement to hire his company.

Very dissappointing. Maybe the book is better.

Michael Gerber, unknown to me until I read this book, is now at the top of my "Read Again" list.

Gerber's approach is simple: Any business of any kind can be made "owner-friendly" by the simple adoption of the same principles used in successful franchise operations such as McDonalds, etc. In a lyric, almost poetic presentation, Gerber leads a fictitious business owner through the process of changing her pie shop from a drudge to a new dream, explaining to her why she has fallen in to the trap of the "Entrepreneurial Myth."

This is one of the finest business book I've read in a long time. It not only gives plenty of good information on how to apply its principles; it also allows the reader to get more information through The E-Myth Academy.

The new business I am starting, as well as the one I now operate, are already on firmer footing, thanks to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book in a million, February 28, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It (Audio Cassette)
I have never been a full-fledged business owner although I worked for one as his business fell apart. Had he had this book I might still have that job.

Gerber takes his cue from the fact that most small businesses close after less than five years. You'd think that facing these odds the world would be full of books on the reasons why and how to avoid them, but this is the first one I've seen.

As you read you'll be struck by his understanding of the people who set up business, and also by the clarity of his solution. Yes, to some degree it's an advertisment for his consulting services, but there's plenty of advice.

I feel that a local business I frequent is beginning to enter a period of decline, and I wish I knew the owner well enough to give him a copy.

Incidentally, I didn't notice any of the problems other reviewers have mentioned, and in one case the book went right over the head of of one.

I expect to re-read this book several times, and I'm looking at some of the other Gerber titles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Book, July 25, 2004
This review is from: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It (Audio Cassette)
I have listened to this audiocasset over 20 times. My 5 year old business has left me wanting to close the doors and walk away. It leaves me with too little free time to enjoy life. This tape really hits home and makes you think about what a business really is and has opened my eyes. I have now started taking steps to change my business for good. Gerber believes your business should be apart from its owner and this makes perfect sense. I can't believe I haven't seen it before now. I have been a slave to my business for years and I need to set up a system so the business can run itself. My concentration should be making the system run smoothly and not the day to day work.

I can understand how this book doesn't make sense for somebody just starting a business. All the 'one star' ratings are understandable for those people. However, if your business is running your life and can't seem to figure out how to change it this book is for you. I love it and wish there was a follow up with more examples of successes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening, March 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It (Audio Cassette)
He chooses an extremely corny device as a hook to get readers through his premise, but what a premise it is: Entrepreneurs spend too much working IN their business, rather than working ON their business. It's a great concept. I've recommended this book to at least 10 people, who've actually gone out and bought copies for their friends, and so on and so on. If it weren't for the hokey concept, this book would definitely qualify as a 10.

Purchased this for a co-worker with limited vision. While it is a abridgment of the book, it covers the main topics quite well and provided him with the ideas that I needed to convey. It can also provide a quick review of the book after an initial reading.

I am new to small business after spending a career in the US Marine Corps. This book is great for new comers and experienced personnel alike. It teaches you the shortfalls and how to avoid them. It is listed on Inc Magazines top 10 books.

Great stuff and a must have - appears to be simplistic but after you really study Gerber's well articulated strategy carefully - it will then reveal its true value.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am not an entrepreneur. I am starting my own business., February 28, 1999

I enjoy listening to audio's while driving. This one was so interesting that I listened to it two times in a week! I am more of a manager and technician than entrepreneur. This audio has given me a different view of why businesses work and what I can do to increase the chance taking my business to the top!
