A dynamic exploration of what really matters in life, with the keys to unlock the passion for living within each of us

Psychologist Gary Buffone has listened to hundreds of dying and seriously ill people speak of their deepest regrets and their greatest joys, and he has witnessed the heightened passion for living that comes with the knowledge of one's own mortality. His experience has brought him face-to-face with perhaps the most pernicious obstacle to leading a fulfilling lifepostponement. In The Myth of Tomorrow, Dr. Buffone takes a provocative look at postponement and how it can sap life of its savor and meaning. With the help of inspiring and instructive case studies and anecdotes, he reveals his Seven Keys for Life Renewal. Ineach lesson, he skillfully provides the keys to unlocking the passion for life within each of us. Dr. Buffone shares all the dynamic tools, exercises, and visualizations he developed to help his patients break free from the holding patterns into which so many of their lives had slipped, giving them the opportunity to reinvent their lives.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"This book is an important wake-up call. This is a book that can literally change your life. It made me think about my life more deeply than anything I've read in a long time."--Jack Canfield, Coauthor, Chicken Soup for the Soul

"Nothing defines life like facing death. Nothing prioritizes today over tomorrow like confronting our mortality. What powerful stories and messages!"--Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

UNLOCK A LIFE OF PASSION AND PURPOSE

We all want to make our lives better. Yet we bury our heads in the illusion that we can always begin our "better" life tomorrow, or later. But what can move us to awaken to--and act on--life's possibilities?

In this remarkable book, psychologist Dr. Gary Buffone draws from his work with patients who have experienced life-threatening situations--and emerged from them to successfully break the "life-stall" pattern of postponement. In The Myth of Tomorrow, he explores the seductive lie of unlimited time.

Featuring thought-provoking exercises and inspiring and instructional real-life stories, this book shows how to:

  • Discover the one thought that can change your life
  • Recognize that you are more than what you do or what you own
  • Expand your sense of choice and freedom
  • Make peace with the ultimate wake-up call
  • Live the daily life you truly want
  • And much more!

The Myth of Tomorrow can help you see that there is indeed something to awaken for: a life that is more satisfying and meaningful than the one we have now--one that is truly within our reach.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Wake-Up Call, September 21, 2002

A friend of mine had recommended this book... I found I couldn't put the book down. The awakening exercises in the book grabbed me... this book gave me a way to take that thought and turn it into a positive force in my daily life. The different chapters and exercises on loving ourselves, others, and life and finding meaning gave me ways to
do things differently so my days seem richer. I find I'm not taking each day for granted like before. For that reason alone, the book has been a valuable read and I've heartily recommended to my friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life at the Next Level, September 25, 2002

This review is from: The Myth of Tomorrow: Seven Essential Keys for Living the Life You Want Today (Paperback)
As a social worker who has worked with cancer patients over the years, this book says it all. I've personally witnessed how many of these individuals experience the very changes Dr. Buffone describes so eloquently in his book. I've seen first hand the truth in his statement that "there is nothing that pushes us to live life more that the thought of losing it" and how this single thought can dramatically transform people's lives. I actually took the time to complete the awakening exercises he offers and found they helped me clear alot of distractions and laser in on the things in my life that really mattered. To my suprise, I've found myself using the Daily Whisper technique to motivate me to do small things I wouldn't normally do, like go out of my way to smile and say hello to people at work, call an old and dear friend for lunch, and take more time to have some fun with my daughter. If you really take the time to read it, this book will cause you to look deeply at yourself and your life and may even inspire you to change it. I plan to use it with my clients and give it as a gift to those I really care about. A great message that lends hope and courage to the reader!
