Behold The Kings Of Suburbia!,
By
This review is from: Myths Legends & Other Amazing Adventures 2 (Audio CD)
This cd is my first sampling of The Aquabats, a group I have heard so much about. I don't know what to say other than these cats have blown my mind, from their lyrics to their costumes to their over-the-top suburban presences. Singing about topics from school lunches to backyard pool parties, The Aquabats have taken the nerdiest aspects of suburbia, and magically transformed them into "Cool, Daddy, Cool!" How does one classify the music of The Aquabats? They cover so many realms! In the opening sequence "Robot Theme Song," I immediately felt the aura of "The Moog Synthesizer" sound that people like like Gershon Kingsley and Stan Free made popular in the 1960s and 70s. The third track "Pool Party" begins with two "Hang Loose" type dudes talking on the phone, getting ecstatic over an evening pool party, raving about the "Food, Girls, MORE FOOD!," then shifting into a song with that perky 80s ska-beat. The song "Pizza Day" will bring back memories of the school lunch menus that all us suburban children memorized in elementary school (the lyrics also remind us of junior high, when the school lunch menu suddenly becomes uncool!). And then we have "I Fell Asleep On My Arm," which had me doubled over; it's an agonizing account of a student falling asleep on his arm, and waking up to find the limb went numb. The Aquabats play and sing this song in the same ultra-angst-ridden vein as a song like "Pray For Death!" The Aquabats are a great wake up call to middle class folks who grow up thinking they have become too cool for suburbia to even admit to being part of it. This cd is pure fun with absolutely no empty filler songs. Pick it up, you will be glad you did!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Myths Legends & Other Amazing Adventures 2 (Audio CD)
Killer frikkin ska album. Ive been reading the reviews and ive noticed there was nothing else to be said. But, nobody mentioned the song Worms Make Dirt. That song is epic and amazing. How they thought of a chipmunk in the center of the earth is beyond me. These guys take geeky ska to a new level. Pool Party is also another cool song. "dude just watching the dating game". The chorus is really catchy. Pizza Day is probably the best song on the album. Good, funny lyrics. So this cd is awesome so buy it.
