Book Description

March 1, 2010
In Gary DeMar's newly expanded and revised book, Myths, Lies, & Half-Truths readers will explore in detail the 15 most deadly lies accepted by far too many Christians and Christian leaders. Why does this happen? Because we misread the Bible in many ways. Gary DeMar addresses these prominent misconceptions: Jesus didn't get mixed up in politics; You can't impose your morality on other people; There's a separation between church and state; It's never right to resist authority; We're living in the last days; Christians should remain neutral; Christians should just 'preach the gospel'; It's not right to judge what people do; Politics is dirty; Religion and politics do not mix;Our citizenship is in heaven; God's kingdom is not of this world; These and many more objections are studied, evaluated, and answered in this succinctly written new book. Understanding what God's Word says about these often-recited but rarely examined challenges to Christian activism will determine the future of Christianity in America and around the world. This being the case, this just may be the most important book you will ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, convicting book, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Myths, Lies, & Half-Truths: How Misreading the Bible Neutralizes Christians (Paperback)
I purchased this book with a certain amount of skepticism, but quickly became convicted at Demar's arguements that secular humanism is pushing Christianity out of every aspect of life in the United States. Demar presents strong arguements in each of his chapters addressing how the secularists of this age want Christians to keep their "religion" inside the four walls of the church only while pushing their agenda of homosexuality, abortion, and atheism on the country and its laws.

Demar brings up good points on how Christians need to get involved in every aspect of life -- in politics, law, medicine, teaching -- to spread the Christian Biblical ideals that our country was founded on.

One of the concluding chapters was extremely eye opening about how our country was founded via the Revolutionary War and how, instead of tossing out all religion from the government, our founding fathers were strongly committed to building the nation based on the Bible and Christianity.

Demar is also great in debunking the good old separtion of church and state lie that has plagued Christianity and our government over the past 50-plus years. Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution is there anything putting a wall between church and state -- it is probably the biggest myth and lie that secularists push on Christians in this country so we won't try to be involved in politics while they push their own agendas down our throats. If our founding fathers were deists and/or atheists, why did they put Bible verses and the Ten Commandments up in nearly every government building in Washington, D.C., and even end the Constitution by saying "In the year of our Lord"?

There are some excellent points that Demar focuses on throughout this book and I say it is a must read for anyone who wants our country to return to the Christian nation that our founding fathers intended for it to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provocative book provides insights for the growing Christian, February 11, 2009

This review is from: Myths, Lies, & Half-Truths: How Misreading the Bible Neutralizes Christians (Paperback)
Gary DeMar is probably one of the best authors available for understanding the real issues related to Biblical history and the utterances of prophecy--especially the understanding of end-times theology.
This remarkable book makes the reader examine his/her Faith at a deeper level than most are comfortable with pursuing. Un-learning is the most painful kind of learning a person will face. This volume with assist in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
Any book from this provocative and prolific writer is designed to make the serious Bible student dig deep for a personal foundation for Spiritual growth instead of just swallowing "hook, line and sinker" what you have been taught without serious examination.
If you want Spiritual wisdom, this is the book for you! It is a lot like having a MAP to the Spiritual minefield that we all face.

1.0 out of 5 stars Myth, May 10, 2011
This review is from: Myths, Lies, & Half-Truths: How Misreading the Bible Neutralizes Christians (Paperback)
The Abrahamic monotheism like any other religion, is mythology. Also, our country was not founded on Christian beliefs. Jesus, Moses and Abraham are all fictional characters. Period.
