    What happens
    When myth
    Meets storyteller?
    Something new is born.
    Mythspring

Song and story. Myth and tradition. They are a shared legacy that both satisfies and inspires. Join these talented authors as they celebrate the rich, diverse, and occasionally truly odd culture of our country.

Mythspring is an anthology of original short speculative fiction, including fantasy, science fiction, and horror, where each story is derived from a Canadian song, folktale, myth, or other cultural source. Excerpts of the source text or image appears in the book with each story, along with a brief description of how the author was inspired by it.

Includes stories from notable speculative fiction authors such as Charles de Lint, James Alan Gardener, Alison Baird, Tanya Huff and Karin Lowachee.

The stories will be suitable for an older young adult audience, and the book will be of great interest to educators. It will be included as a "special event" volume within the Realms of Wonder series of original fantasy anthologies.

Be inspired. Celebrate our wealth of ideas and talent. Taste the delights of Mythspring.

    Review

"This book should appeal to a wide variety of ages and interests.
    Recommended"
    -- CM Magazine

"Editors Julie E. Czerneda and Genevieve Kierans have summoned over a dozen Canadian writers to supply stories inspired by "the lyrics and legends of Canada." What results is a stimulating journey through northern realms of the imagination. . . Latest in a welcome resurgence of Canadian fantastical literature, this volume is one to keep close by on cold nights when the Wendigo stalks."
    -- Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine

"With the relative dearth of Canadian fantasy for younger readers, this anthology of 16 short stories is a welcome contribution. . . . Even better, each of the stories is associated with a Canadian legend, song, or local story. . . And although there's some unevenness in the writing and conception of the stories, there's plenty here to entertain and tickle the brain and heart."
    -- Quill and Quire

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew?, April 6, 2008

I've been reading this on my morning bus commute. I've missed my stop twice because I was so engrossed in one of the tales. I'm a Charles DeLint fan which is why I bought the book. It introduced me to a whole bunch of interesting Canadian writers with great stories to tell. The famous Canadian monster story is a hoot. Who knew Canada had so many national monsters?

This review is from: Mythspring: From the Lyrics and Legends of Canada (Paperback)
Being an avid De Lint fan I bought this book since he is included.

Interesting collection of stories. Nice to read other things from other authors besides my favorite De Lint.

    Something different to buy.

This review is from: Mythspring: From the Lyrics and Legends of Canada (Paperback)
Thank you for the great service. The seller contacted me to let me know there would be a slight delay in shipping the book due to bad weather in the area. I am very happy with the way it was handled and the book arrived shortly there after in perfect condition.
