5.0 out of 5 stars A great idea with great execution.
If you are on the fence about buying this item like I was for months, "just buy them!!" I finally bought them and they work great. Some of the complaints I have read are not valid. If you would like to use your Bose Noise Cancelling Head Phones, you can, just plug them in the Ipod and put them on. There is a cut out in the battery pack to accomodate a different head...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing.
I don't wear prescription glasses to see. I do use occasional reading glasses or hold things out aways-- old age I guess. Beware- it says you may need a clip on glass if you have prescription glasses.. they are $99.00 plus cost of eye exam. Definitely not worth it. Crutchfield took them back no questions asked so it was good experience for the return. MYVU should...

If you are on the fence about buying this item like I was for months, "just buy them!!" I finally bought them and they work great. Some of the complaints I have read are not valid. If you would like to use your Bose Noise Cancelling Head Phones, you can, just plug them in the Ipod and put them on. There is a cut out in the battery pack to accomodate a different head set if you want to use one. The video quality is great and the looks you get while using them in a public place is worth the cost of admission. I can never get through a complete movie because every flight attendant on the plane wants a test drive. I went to the sharper Image store in my city and test drove the competition for this product. The MYVU viewer is a better product. The only negative on this item is it will only work with the Ipod. Their website states that they are working on a model that will work with other portable media players. Something for you "non" Ipod users to look forward to. I hope this write up was useful.

MYVU should state that if you need glasses for close up or use your arms as reading extenders then they will not work for you! It has nothing to do with JUST those who have prescription glasses. They should also engineer some diopter adjustments to make these things usable for a larger number of the population!

2.0 out of 5 stars No, it doesn't work with the 6th gen (Classic) iPod, Touch, or iPhone., April 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Myvu made for iPod fully loaded edition (Electronics)
Although it fits nicely, the iPod Classic uses a different video output than the 5th generation.

Apple changed the video specs, so it isn't just this product that won't work most of Apple's own iPod video accessories designed for the 5.5 gen and back won't work with the 6th gen, touch, and iPhone.

Update May, 2008: I have been working with the Myvu folks, they were very receptive to feedback about their website and I hope they will be putting the compatibility information in the FAQ on their website. I would certainly add another star for the stellar customer service they have provided (but, you can't edit the number of stars in an existing review.)

4.0 out of 5 stars My Two Cents on the MyVu, June 21, 2007
By

It's hard to describe viewing video and being able to see around the image. I love the fact that you are not totally immersed - you are aware of your surroundings. I have a long commute (where I do not drive) and a long walk to work. Wearing them while commuting is great, and while walking works fine for me - as long as you concentrate on where you're going. If you do other things while watching TV, you'll like it. If you need to just sit and concentrate on a movie or the TV, you might walk into something.

Cons: the battery pack is kind of cool, except, why not make the connector on the bottom enclosed so it's protected? It would be a little larger, but I think a better design. My myvu came with no instructions ... there is not much to it so, no big deal, but it did take me a minute to find the video settings on my ipod (had to look at myvu website to get a manual that explained this). It would be more convenient if the ipod menus actually displayed in the myvu - they don't, but you can look under the glasses at your ipod screen easy enough. The effective image size is exactly as described - this is smaller than I expected, but works well. Stand about 8 feet away from a 20 or 27 inch LCD TV ... that is roughly what it's like. Video subtitles are legible. An obvious con is the price - I'd love to spend less ... but I'd buy them again. Biggest con is more of an ipod issue - converting videos to ipod format isn't really documented all that well and some shareware that claims to do this is horrible. The controls on the cord are fine, but the button they are on seems a little big (wish it was a little smaller).

PRO: Overall they're great and I'd buy another pair. I capture audio and video from language software I use , convert to mpeg4, and can study while commuting. And have a few movies converted from DVDs I own if I get bored with that. Battery life is good - I can go about 2 days before I need to recharge. (about 6 - 8 hours of viewing). Highly recommended for traveling/commuting if you have video to study or movies to keep yourself preoccupied.

Great experience with the myvu. Excellent ergonomic design, good picture quality, and much better than staring at that little video ipod screen. Highly recommend the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Myvu for IPod!, July 24, 2007
This review is from: Myvu made for iPod fully loaded edition (Electronics)
This is such a great product. I love that it is light weight and hands-free. The video viewing and audio is great for road trips and flights. It lasts about 8 hours on the battery and came in a great carry case. In the car I use the car adapter for unlimited movies. I highly recommend this product!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!, August 15, 2008
This review is from: Myvu made for iPod fully loaded edition (Electronics)
First of all it worked on my 30 gig ipod but not my 80 gig ipod, the one I have about 30 movies on. The one I take on long flights. On either side of the screen there are windows so you can see what's going on around you. This can be taken care of by putting a piece of black electrical tape over the front of the glasses. Those windows sometimes washes out the picture and you should ware a hat down low to block out the light. If your looking for a large screen like looking at a big screen T.V. or movie theatre...forget it. The screen is dark even with the brightness and contrast set the best you could.
The screen on the ipod video is bigger brighter and so much better than the one in the glasses. As for the sound , You can make it loud but they are no where as good as the bose in-ear headphones. The headphones attached to the glasses are not noise canceling at all. They only reduce the noise because you're sticking something in the ear canal and raising the volume not like true noise canceling headphones like the bose quiet comfort.
These things are just expensive toys.
Thanks to Amazon marketplace i was able to buy these for under $150.00 brand new and even at that price I feel I got ripped off. I am sure you can make better use of your money.
Video glasses have a long way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Video glasses, August 3, 2008

I love these glasses. It is so great to be lying on your bed watching your favorite videos or movies. The picture is great and really does give the feeling you are watching a screen from around six feet away. My friends are always wanting to try them when they come around. Just bought another pair that incorprorates sun glasses with the vidoe shown slightly down, so you drop your gaze to watch it...they are also amazing. Defintely a buy for a gadget guy like myself, and yes, I watch it quite often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ok, so it's not cinema level, but it is what is and then some!, October 2, 2007
This review is from: Myvu made for iPod fully loaded edition (Electronics)
I bought it for one reason, to enjoy movies without the over-the-shoulder, side look, I have to see what you are watching today lookie-loo.

MyVu fits the bill and then some. Great sound and a good picture, not the best, not HD, but a functional movie medium for flight and when you just want the privacy of your movie.

Don't listen to the critics, just get one, and enjoy....

Red
