5.0 out of 5 stars A Mouth Watering Drink From The Rain Forest
I've tried Acai drinks before that I've gotten in health food stores, and loved the flavor. But NONE approaches the DELICIOUS flavor of O.N.E's Amazon Acai. Given how healthy the juice is (with more antioxidants than pomegranates and rich in Omega 3, 6, & 9, as well as vitamins)you almost have to re-read the label to see if there isn't some trick -- some artificial...

2.0 out of 5 stars Tastes like chalky cold medicine, May 23, 2008

Unfortunately I did not care for this product at all. The drink has a thick chalky texture and the taste reminded us of cold medicine. In addition, there was a very strong and unpleasant aftertaste. The packaging really was beautiful and it may be really good for you and it's a good source of fiber, but I couldn't get past the taste.

NOT! In fact, the already-delicious flavor of the fruit juice is enhanced by some acerola. I took one sip and this was gone instantly. It was THAT good. I have never seen this brand in health stories where I love...so it's another reason why I have to revisit Amazon.com...to order it in the future. How can anything that good be so delicious??

4.0 out of 5 stars A Seriously Interesting Juice-Like Experience, May 27, 2008
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Amazon Acai, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I note that Snapple is now offering an Acai/Blackberry drink, so we're on the razor's edge of trendy beveraging here, people.

The product package shows a nice bendy-straw protruding up out of some fruit--acai berries/nuts?--so it's not too clear if a straw is supposed to come with the product, a la your traditional juice boxes, like Capri Sun . Mine had no straw, so I had no choice but to gouge open the foil portal and pour it into a clear glass. That was the first indicator that this was a new juice experience.

As others have pointed out, maybe the product is packaged in this vessel for a reason, as the drink really isn't that appetizing in appearance. I agree; it plain doesn't look that good. The color reminded me instantly of the chocolate river in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, or maybe some really deep chocolate milk, with a very distinct smoky-pink tinge to it. Maybe even a very, very runny liver pate'. Not a clear beverage, not even close.

Pouring it I could also detect a distinct, thick texture to the drink. It doesn't pour like a clear juice. It wasn't quite the densely pulpy texture of V-8, but it was obvious that this was not a highly refined or otherwise filtered juice beverage.

The scent was interesting, and really the first positive to come of this trial. My very first impression was a very subtle coffee scent. It was most definitely not a powerful, citrusy or otherwise fruity scent; actually, the scent was much more of a deep vegetable type. It wasn't off-putting necessarily, but the scent told me I most definitely wasn't about to drink something with a name like Citrus Burst! or whatever.

Then it was time to drink. My first sensation was the texture, and it was just a little less pulpy than V-8. Thankfully, it was far less dense and pulpy than I anticipated, with none of that squishy pulpy feel on the palate. The taste did take a bit of getting used to, but was not unpleasant at all. I offered some to my 9 year-old son, and the trouper that he was, he tried it and pronounced that it wasn't too bad. He said it tasted "weird" for fruit juice, but that it didn't taste bad. He did say he'd pick a Capri Sun or other juice box over this if given the choice. He definitely wasn't thrilled by the color either.

I drank some more and finished it pretty quickly. It was most definitely thirst-quenching, and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. It is crisp and direct, a clear fruit taste, but I have to wonder if I'm tasting the acai or the acerola. Well, does it really matter? The aftertaste is very subtle and dry, surprising for a drink this thick/pulpy. It's about 10 minutes later now, and I've still got a hint of the flavor, but it's the same subtle fruitiness, non at all metallic or unpleasant.

Note that the 11 oz. container packs 157 calories. It was good, but I'm a routinely diet drinker, so that has got me turning away. I'll drink a free one courtesy of Amazon.com anytime, but wouldn't pay for one simply because of this. I also note that the price is pretty steep per unit, awfully spendy for a beverage, especially when the average cost of a 12 oz. name-brand soda from a machine is about $1.00.

Offsetting the calories is the apparent other health benefits, with lots of anti-oxidants, Omega 3/6/9, vitamins B, C and E, minerals (unspecified) and ellagic acid (whatever in the world that is) and other exotic good stuff. That pulp contributes 32g of carbs. I point out that the copy on the packaging is a median pomegranate color, against a silvery-purple background, and in a tiny font. It was just about impossible to read, until the package was canted just so under a strong lamp. O.N.E.: make your product narrative easily readable, since it's a central part of your marketing.

The ingredients are pretty straightforward, with 100% acai and acerola. But then I see there's "evaporated cane juice." What exactly is this, and what's its percentage in the product? Is this product flavored sugar water?

Also interesting is that nowhere on the packaging does it say exactly what this product is. Is it a "juice beverage," or simply "juice?" It's deeply unknowable, apparently.

Bottom line: Thanks, Amazon.com for the free trial of this tasty beverage. Its color is unappetizing and texture is pretty thick, not good for a first impression. The scent is mild and not unpleasant. And the taste is quite good, thirst-quenching and with a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. I enjoyed this product and recommend it, but have to admit that its caloric content and price make it pretty unlikely I will purchase it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I would not drink another O.N.E., May 21, 2008

I love trying new things, and I adore fruit-flavored anything, so when I saw the Amazon Acaí flavor of O.N.E., I couldn't resist. The flavor was enticing, and the description of the beverage was certainly appealing: "This ancient Amazon Secret boosts energy, stamina and vitality, combats premature aging and helps clean and detoxify the body."

Well, who wouldn't want a refreshing drink that can do all that? When it arrived, I noted that the container advises this drink is best chilled, and so I held off from my taste test, putting it in the refrigerator for several hours.

On a side note, I found the packaging interesting. From the photos, I had expected a standard can, but what it actually arrived in is a soft side container shaped and sized like a can, but it feels more like a juice box. I admired what seems to be an effort to save the environment by utilizing as much bio-degradable material as possible in the packaging.

Finally, the moment came when I felt my O.N.E. Amazon Acaí had chilled sufficiently and I was ready for my first sip. With great anticipation, I opened the container, and inserted a straw.

I was very glad my first sip was only that - a sip. I was not pleased with the flavor. But I persevered, drinking a third of the beverage before finally abandoning it, hoping that perhaps it is one of those tastes that you must `get used to' before you actually enjoy it.

I just couldn't do it. It tasted like I was drinking a fruit concentrate that needed diluting. I heartily enjoy fresh-squeezed juices, but this was just far too strong a flavor.

Not only that, but in addition to the Acaí juice I knew was in this drink, there is something called `Acerola', which the manufacturer describes as `Amazon Cherry'. While I enjoy fresh cherries and cherry flavored food items, apparently I am not fond of cherry juice - at least not Acerola.

It is with sadness I report that I would not drink another of the O.N.E. Amazon Acaí beverages. I had looked forward to a new taste experience that may have the added benefit of improving my health through antioxidants, vitamin C, and other vitamins and minerals that One World Enterprises infuses these drinks with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get past the taste!, October 24, 2008
By
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Amazon Acai, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I enjoy drinking coconut water and other natural juices that provide health benefits and I have been hearing a lot off good things about Acai so I really wanted to try this product. I tried several times but could not get past the, for lack of a better word, bitter taste. I even tried to get the benefits by adding this to other juices. The texture is thick and the pulp just seemed to settle in the bottom of the glass and did not mix well. The taste also overpowered any but the sweetest fruit juices. I now have a carton minus two that will be finding it's way into my trash. The inside carton of my shipment was open with one leaking container so maybe my juice wasn't exactly at its peak but I won't be trying it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gagged me it was so incredibly revolting! BLECH, September 19, 2008
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Amazon Acai, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I have had other Acai drinks so it's not the taste of Acai that I find revolting - just this stuff. it's thick, kinda gloppy and has a nasty vinegary aftertaste. I tried filtering it through a gold coffee filter to get rid of the sediments and that helped the texture but didn't do much to improve the taste. Ultimately, the only way I was able to drink this stuff and not waste it was to mix it with some apple juice or grape juice. The best way to explain the taste is to compare it to the juice you get when you press wine grapes. Wine grapes aren't very sweet and when you press them, you get a thick, sourish juice. That's similar to this crap. Maybe you could put some of this into a smoothie with a banana but I think you might be wasting a good banana. My best advice is to try this before you buy a whole case of it. maybe you'll like it and think I'm wrong. If you do, great! But if, like me, you find the product is simply ghastly, you'll have saved some money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one in the market!, September 5, 2008
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Amazon Acai, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I have tried other brands such as Sambazon, Zola and Bossa Nova. I like Bossa Nova out of the three since it is lighter in texture but I must say it does taste watered down so I'm not too sure if I'm getting the full benefits. Number one choice though is O.N.E! I like the combination of the acerola cherry and acai. It does have a slight chocolatey flavor to it but its very minute. Some people are concerned about the sugar but as you know fructose is the main form of sugar in here. And fructose is easily digested by the body unlike other artificial sweeteners. So I say drink up!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

If you enjoy items that taste good, then don't try this.
It has a "dirt" taste to it, it also looks like muddy water when you pour it into a glass.
Will try their other products just not this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars so so juice with sugar, August 21, 2010
By
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Amazon Acai, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
O.N.E. Amazon Acai has sugar in it.

I didn't realize this until after I bought it. O.N.E. coconut juice has no sugar so I just assumed that the Acai also would be sugar free.

This juice tastes ok as far as boxed juice goes. I think it's hard to get something in a box without ruining the taste in some way. Some fruits and things can handle packaging taste changes better than others. However, once you get used to the taste of really fresh things, the packaged things become rather repulsive and difficult to consume.

So in terms of being a boxed drink, this is delicious, though marred by the added sugar and dilution. It reminds me more of the style of drinks I had in Costa Rica - all the fresh juices get diluted with water and possibly sugar. Not entirely a bad thing, just different.

Personally I'm not going to buy this again, because I don't like drinks with lots of sugar added - it lowers the nutrient to calorie ratio too much. However, if I were stuck somewhere without too many choices to drink I might choose this to drink. On the other hand water is pretty good too.

On a side note I taste tested a slew of coconut juices and decided O.N.E. was the best tasting, until I found the frozen Body Ecology juice which tastes 10000 times fresher. I could no longer consume O.N.E., it tasted horrible to me. (another case of fresher things just tasting better)
