Delicious, but a bit too sugary,

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from cashew juice, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found that it tastes like... juice! This is because the cashew fruit actually has two parts: the fruit and the nut. The juice is obviously made from the fruit portion and not the nut portion like I had imagined.
I would describe it as a delicious mix of apple juice and grape juice with a tiny hint of sugar cane juice. It was very refreshing and should definitely be served cold. The packaging points out that it's made in Brazil, 100% natural, and fat free. It also claims that it may help to calm upset stomaches, sooth sore throats, protect skin from eczema and acne, and fortify immune systems. The drink seems to be marketed as one of those organic, natural drinks, and the ingredients list certainly backs up that claim with no weird chemicals aside from citric acid. The ingredients are water, cashew fruit puree, organic sugar cane juice, citric acid. It's packed full of vitamin C at 148% of your daily value. You also get 5.1% of your daily calcium, 0.8% of your vitamin A, and 2.6% of your iron. Each box contains 140 calories with 33 grams of sugars though, which is about the same as a can of coke. Based on its flavor, I would definitely recommend this juice. I thought it was really refreshing and really enjoyed it. If you're someone who limits sugary drink intake, keep in mind that this 11oz drink is about as sugary as a 12oz can of Coca-Cola. You probably don't want to drink too many of these in one day.

Not bad, not bad at all : 3.75 stars,

Not knowing that a cashew is a fruit prior to trying this, I didn't know what to expect. I was expecting this to taste like a liquid cashew nut. WRONG. It's kind of like a light pear juice. It has a nice, light, sweet taste. I also decided to try a real cashew fruit. After comparing the 2, I can not give a full 5 stars because I feel that the added organic sugar cane juice kind of overpowers the cashew flavor.
But in General, it has a nice, light tropical sweet taste. I just think the added organic sugar cane juice isn't that necessary

No, It Doesn't Taste Like Cashews,

Having been a vegetarian for almost 21 years with a serious interest in food, I know something about nuts. I was aware that cashew harvesting involved removing the nut from its surrounding fruit, although I seem to recall that the fruit was caustic and inedible.
My memory is apparently faulty because the aptly named O.N.E. Cashew Juice is delicious. Its appearance resembles pineapple juice and the taste is reminiscent as well, albeit much less acid. The product isn't pure--it's cut with sugar cane juice, which I'm guessing both gently sweetens and thins the puree-water mixture. Regardless, the taste is nice and the texture not too thick. 11 oz. contains a modest 140 calories and is actually quite filling. Despite the plug on the label to the effect of O.N.E.'s being "a rich source of Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, and Vitamin B3," I don't see any B vitamins cited in the nutritional analysis. However, the container packs a whopping 148% of the suggested PDV of Vitamin C, plus 5.1% of calcium and 2.6% of iron (the 0.7% of Vitamin A is, the label informs us, from beta carotene--a bit too modest to tout). There's even a touch of fiber, so it's pretty obvious that this isn't a load of empty calories. The label claims various unrelated health benefits that stop just short of resurrecting the dead; I don't know about all that, but I suppose it's something to be considered. All in all, a good product. I don't know that I'll ever find myself jonesing for a cashew juice, but I'd certainly buy it if I were thirsty and it was staring me in the face, plus given its mild favor, it would make a great base for smoothies. There are lots of exciting things happening in food today (Slow Food, American artisanal cheese, and heightened awareness of high-end tea, just for starters), as well as irritating efforts by some to get "cutesy" with recipes and ingredients. This current trend of introducing unusual fruits, e.g., Bon Dia's ultra-rich, liqueur-like blend of açai and cocoa fruit (and BTW, it's pronounced "ah-sah-EE'," with the accent on the last syllable, not "uh-sigh"--don't be mislead by Tropicana's deplorable lack of research into the proper pronunciation of its products) is one of the good ones, as long as the fruits are healthful and not tampered with too much in processing. This one tastes like a winner and I can sincerely recommend giving it a try.

overpriced sugar water,

Though touted as "One Natural Experience", this product is made from cashew-fruit puree, and has added sugar ("organic sugar cane juice") and citric acid. It has a lot of vitamin C, but there are other, less-expensive fruit products with substantial vitamin C. It has a little calcium and an even smaller amount of iron.
The taste is reminiscent of peach or apricot nectar, though not as strongly flavored. I'd rather have those. If O.N.E. Cashew Juice were 50 cents, it might be worth considering as an alternative to soft drinks. But at nearly $2, it's outrageously overpriced. You'd be better off grabbing apples, bananas, or navel oranges in the produce section.

Sweet, tropical, not worth the sugar,

Best thing -- the novelty of drinking something you've probably never tasted before, and seeing the graphic of a cashew fruit, which is, frankly, one weird-looking fruit.
But said novelty is not worth the sugar load in this juice, or the expense really. Yes, there's vitamin C, but there are better sources. Yes, it tastes nice -- tropical, with components of pear, citrus, and pineapple -- but it's overly sweet for my palate. I tend to dislike intensely sweet things like classical birthday cake icing, however -- so if you enjoy sweet-sweet things, you may enjoy this juice. I'd recommend this only for the novelty factor if you have money to burn, or would like to have a fancy juice cocktail party, perhaps.

How Do You Take Your Cashew Juice?,
By
This review is from: O.N.E. Drink, Cashew Fruit, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I actually got the Cashew Juice to try as part of the Amazon "Vine" program.
While I normally would not buy something like this item, it was something that for free, to try a sample of it, made me curious... And for those wondering, yes this *does not* come from the "Nut", but instead from the "Fruit" part of the Cashew. It doesn't taste bad, but it isn't anything real special by itself either. It has a slight, light taste with a hint of the cashew nut flavor mixed in with what you can only really describe as a "tropical-type" fruit. It is kind of like pineapple juice without such strong "pineapple" flavors, it also kinda tasted like a basic apple juice or white grape or pear (maybe even peach, but maybe not, heh) flavoring. Light, delicate fruit with hint of nut... I am not sure I would actually buy this for the "Juice" factor, as I think unless you had tons of money to spend on groceries and such, you would find any other normal juice from your regular store just as enjoyable. I definitely could see myself using this (maybe mixed with some peach juice or other tropical juice) to make a nice mixed alcoholic drink (using rum seems the most yummy to me). The other feature of the O.N.E. Cashew Juice, is the health aspect, as the container of it that I have states that it is "Rich in Vitamin C", as well as "Beta-carotene, Vitamin B1, B2 and B3", as well as "Calcium and Iron". "O.N.E. Cashew Juice is less acidic and provides 5 Times more Vitamin C than Orange Juice". They also list a few other benefits of O.N.E. Cashew Juice: may help "calm an upset stomach", "sooth a sore throat", "protect the skin from problems like acne and eczema", and also "fortify the immune system". I only had one sample container (11 oz.) to try so I could not test out those "benefits" as I am sure you would need to drink it while feeling certain symptoms for "relief" or on a regular basis to help prevent/ keep it away... The drink (again 11 Fl oz. or 330 ml in size) has 1 Serving per container, with 140 Calories per serving, and 0 Calories from Fat. Vitamin C is listed as 148% of your daily value and Calcium = 5.1%, Vitamin A = 0.7%, and Iron = 2.6% DV Totals. The product is 100% Natural with the only listed Ingredients being: Water, cashew fruit puree, organic sugar cane juice, citric acid.

I'm not sure how I feel about this...,

Pro: full of vitamin C, not terrible tasting.
Con: 33 grams of sugar! That's more than a can of coke. PRICEY, too. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Would I drink it again? Sure. Would I go out of my way to buy more? No. It tastes very citrusy. There is a HINT of cashew nut flavor. I wish that flavor is stronger and less sweet. It's an exotic flavor to me. I can't describe its flavor; it's like nothing I've ever tasted before. Almost peachy.

I'd much rather eat Cashew nuts than drink Cashew juice!,

To be honest, the thought of Cashew Juice does not at all sound delicious or thirst-quenching. So opening the drink does wonders, smelling is not to appetizing.
At first, the taste is very prune-juice like, very watered down and simple, without the soda-sticky sugar or carbonation. Reminds me very much of medicine, though it's not thick like cough syrup but more like a mixed-herbal tea flavor. Apparently, Cashew Juice acts like a medicine too, claiming to "calm an upset stomach, soothe a sore throat, protect the skin from problems like acne and eczema, and fortify the immune system." Wow, really? No wonder I don't particularly like it...sounds way too good to be true. Even has "five times more Vitamin C than orange juice." Can't beat that! For those who like healthy drinks, not for the taste but for the benefits of vitamins and other nutrients. I'd much rather just eat the cashew nuts than drink cashew juice!

I was not sure what to expect when I ordered this item. I had never heard of Cashew fruit but decided to give it a try. I found it very refreshing. The flavor was light and fruity. It had a mild aftertaste of cashew. I gave it 4 stars due to the high sugar content. Organic cane sugar is still sugar and 140 calories is to much for me to spend on one small drink. Otherwise I liked it.

If cashew juice (the juice of the cashew fruit, to which the cashew nut is attached) is naturally sweet, why is so much sugar added to this? 33 gm. of sugar is outrageous. I'd love this if they'd put in only 1/3-1/2 of the sugar or, better yet, sweeten with agave nectar.
As is, it's only good to mix with protein powder to cut the carb ratio down a bit. |
