4.0 out of 5 stars Chain Deflector, December 14, 2010

This product works well. The deflector part is metal, broad, and adjustable. I've had no problems with it and it was easy to place. I recommend it over the tooth fang style deflectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works but make sure it will fit for CX, December 10, 2011

Product is very well manufactured and I have no doubt it will work as designed. Unfortunately it won't work with cyclocross frames that have a pulley for the front derailleur blocking cable where it would clamp to. The pulley is in different places on different frames so YMMV but on my 2007 Norco CCX One it gets in the way. The Jump Stop would have to be installed so low to clear the pulley that it would be worthless. I've gone ahead and installed the Jump Stop on my Trek T100 tandem without issue. I've never had an issue with chain drop on that bike, it doesn't see the sort of jostling that the cyclocross bike gets, and now I suspect I never will have an issue.

I'll probably order another one and fit it to the girlfriends road bike. I'd get one for my mountain bike as well but it has a suspension pivot in the way.

This N-Gear Jump Stop Guide/Watcher is really a 'cure all'! It is the best 10 dollars I Have ever spent. Very fast shifts to the low gear, with no worries. The absolute best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, installation tricky till call inventor, October 15, 2011

This review is from: N-Gear Jump Stop Chain Guide/Watcher (Sports)
The strap that holds the N-Gear Jump Stop Chain Guide on the frame looks like plastic and was too short to reach around the seat stay, and allow the screw to reach through far enough to engage the nut. With a phone call to the company I learned that the strap has fibers in it. Advice: soak it in water. I dropped the strap in water and left it there for a few days till I had time to deal with it again. When I pulled it out and dried it off, it fit perfectly. Since I installed the Jump Stop I've had no more problems with the chain coming off on shifts to the small sprocket.

So, the product works as advertised, and the slight hassle of installation was worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as it claims., October 2, 2011

We have had a Jump-Stop on our tandem for years and have not dropped the chain when going to the granny since installing it. This new one is for my touring bike to make it more tolerant of less than perfect adjustment after shipping the bike.

I know my shift technique leaves a lot to be desired. I sometimes forget to shift down until it's too late. This jump stopper helps but is not 100%.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more chain suck, January 21, 2011
The N-Gear Jump Stop works like a charm. Very effective even for such a small unit and its lightweight and very affordable.
I just converted my 3x8 to a 1x9 (single chainring up front with bash plate) and this prevents the chain from disengaging even when riding off road. The flexible polymer tube mount doesn't harm your frame and stainless steel hardware resists corrosion. The multiple sizes allow for use on just about any bike style or brand. Instructions included (approx. 5 min install with bare seat tube).

Other then the tight space you working in to install this, it's easy and straight forward. Follow the directions and set the clearance between the guide and chain correctly and never worry about down shifting again. I like simple fixes like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars N-Gear Jump Stop Will Stop Suicide Shifts., December 30, 2011
By
Denny Crane, Esq. (So. California, USA) - See all my reviews
The N-Gear Jump Stop works great on regular bikes, and is particularly well suited for recumbents, which often have a small inner chain ring, due to their limited climbing ability. I have a Bacchetta Corsa 700c, with a 26T small chainring, an Ultegra triple front derailleur, and SRAM T-500 bar end shifters. Shifting onto a 26T small chainring was not so much a shift as it was a drop of the chain, accompanied by much anxiety. When the chain went too far inboard going uphill I had 1 or 2 seconds to unclip and put a foot down before the bike stopped and fell over. With the N-Gear, I can shift down with reckless abandon, as the chain can go nowhere other than onto the 26T Salsa. Well worth the cost. Installation was easy, and should take about 20-30 minutes on a regular bike. I took about an hour, but that was made longer by the fact that I had to move the Bacchetta OAB accessory up to the top of the tube to make room for the N-Gear.
