Stylish, focused; Lots of talk by the 'N Sync members, March 27, 2001
A companion video this is to the concert video as written on the cover sleeve. Viewers should own the "Live At Madison Square Garden" video first before they buy this. Shot in a slick MTV fashion, this video presents a lively insight into the various elements that come into the making of the "No Strings Attached" concert. The treatment is step-by-step (sort of like a countdown of days), focused but with its liberal embellishment of short passages of spunky music and tinted photograph sequences of various hues, the viewing never turns too dry. Thoroughout the video, there are numerous close-up interviews done with each member of 'N Sync (often accompanied by a stylish b&W photograph sequence). The production team which include the manager, chereographers and various directors for the music setup and lighting also give brief descriptions of their job scope with regards to the concert. One part of the video you should not miss is when one of the 'N Sync members Joey Fatone takes the viewer on a guided tour around their secluded work place located in the outbacks of Orlando, Florida. It is an amazing, almost unbelievable dream house that has a bowling alley, a golf course, a playground, a pool and of course, the rehersal studio! With its raw footage of 'N Sync rehearsing for the concert plus the close-up interviews, the video inevitably smacks of the TV show "Making the Band". The video, however, delivers what the title says; it never quite strays onto non-concert issues as such it seems to be lacking in emotional aspects (no heartwarming visits from friends or phone calls to worried mothers). At the end of it all, what the video really does show to the viewer is how hard the guys have worked, to put on a successful concert. In fact, as a culmination of all the hard work, their efforts are represented by two Live performances taken from the concert. Unfortunately they had to use the concert footage from the Madison Square Garden video as the two Live performances here. What a shame - did the makers of this video actually expect people who buy this title not to buy the concert video as well? Could have given some footage from TV shows or at least footage from other concert venues. In addition to the live performances, there are 3 music videos - Its Gonna Be Me, Bye Bye Bye and This I Promise You. The order seemed a bit wierd as Bye Bye Bye came out before the rest of the songs, yet it was placed 2nd on the list. "I'll Never Stop" is missing. Though the material of the video seemed a tad too confined, the MTV-style of direction more than makes up for that flaw. Fans will also get to hear a lot of talk from 'N Sync members.
