4.0 out of 5 stars classic, and yet, not., August 8, 2000
By Cameron Craig (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a CD of gangsta anthems that keep your feet bumpin' an' stuff.... like I know, I am a small town white boy... but I can't stop listenning to F**k that Police and Straight Outta Compton... There are other raps that I realized where genius in their genre such as Express Yourself and Compton's in the House, but Just don't bite it and some of the other screwin' b**ches raps get to be a little too much. It is a lot of fun, but I often find myself turning to Public Enemy when I am done to cleanse my soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars The World's Most Dangerous Group, June 24, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
It was only about three months ago that I expressed any interest in rap, picking Dre's Chronic 2001 album. I was impressed with it, so I kept my interest for the genre, and started exploring the works of this group called N.W.A. I think it was a very wise decison for me to purchase a greatest hits album by a group who is highly considered by many critics as the best rap group of all time, or at least the most influential.

Well, obviously the absolute essentials are covered on the greatest hits compilation, Straight Outta Compton and F-ck Tha Police are big highlights of course, with sensational beats and powerful rap deliveries from the crew. The Live excerpts are very good too, with Compton's In The House being a standout. Gangsta Gangsta has to be one of my favourites, with it's groovy, low key catchy beat and great rapping. Other highlights include the speedy 100 miles and runnin', If It Ain't Ruff, and Real Niggaz Don't Die. Each rapper has a distinct rap voice, my favourites being MC Ren and Eazy E.

Overall, a great buy for fans of rap, putting together the best hits of the best rap group, including some awesome inserts of the group talking. Unfortunately, after N.W.A. rap took some drastic turns towards a disgraceful interpretations, maybe taking the line from Gangsta Gangsta: "Life ain't nothin' but b-tches and money" a little too seriously.
Highly recommended.
