Why bother? They only had one creatively vibrant & commercial succesful album - "Straight Outta Compton" - which also has all of their notable songs. You're much better off with that than this, which just takes the highlights of "Compton" and mixes them with sub-par material from their other albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars classic, and yet, not., August 8, 2000

This is a CD of gangsta anthems that keep your feet bumpin' an' stuff.... like I know, I am a small town white boy... but I can't stop listenning to F**k that Police and Straight Outta Compton... There are other raps that I realized where genius in their genre such as Express Yourself and Compton's in the House, but Just don't bite it and some of the other screwin' b**ches raps get to be a little too much. It is a lot of fun, but I often find myself turning to Public Enemy when I am done to cleanse my soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars The World's Most Dangerous Group, June 24, 2005
This review is from: N.W.A. GREATEST HITS (Audio CD)
It was only about three months ago that I expressed any interest in rap, picking Dre's Chronic 2001 album. I was impressed with it, so I kept my interest for the genre, and started exploring the works of this group called N.W.A. I think it was a very wise decison for me to purchase a greatest hits album by a group who is highly considered by many critics as the best rap group of all time, or at least the most influential.

Well, obviously the absolute essentials are covered on the greatest hits compilation, Straight Outta Compton and F-ck Tha Police are big highlights of course, with sensational beats and powerful rap deliveries from the crew. The Live excerpts are very good too, with Compton's In The House being a standout. Gangsta Gangsta has to be one of my favourites, with it's groovy, low key catchy beat and great rapping. Other highlights include the speedy 100 miles and runnin', If It Ain't Ruff, and Real Niggaz Don't Die. Each rapper has a distinct rap voice, my favourites being MC Ren and Eazy E.

Overall, a great buy for fans of rap, putting together the best hits of the best rap group, including some awesome inserts of the group talking. Unfortunately, after N.W.A. rap took some drastic turns towards a disgraceful interpretations, maybe taking the line from Gangsta Gangsta: "Life ain't nothin' but b-tches and money" a little too seriously.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD COLLECTION OF N.W.A CLASSICS, June 7, 2004
This review is from: N.W.A. - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
IF YOU'D LIKE TO JUST GET ALL OF THE N.W.A SONGS YOU LOVE WITHOUT HAVING TO COLLECT ALL OF THE OLD N.W.A ALBUMS, THIS CD IS FOR YOU. THIS COLLECTION IS ALMOST PERFECT, BUT, LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER GREATEST HITS CD, IT'S MISSING A FEW TRACKS. MISSING IN THIS COLLECTION ARE ''8 BALL'', ''DOPEMAN'' AND ''SA PRIZE''. OTHER THAN THAT, THIS IS A GREAT COLLECTION FROM THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS GROUP. IF WE'RE LUCKY, WE MIGHT HEAR A NEW ALBUM FROM N.W.A ONE DAY. THIS VERSION OF THE GREATEST HITS CD HAS THE 2 N.W.A REUNION TRACKS, WHICH ARE ''HELLO'' AND ''CHIN CHECK''.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: N.W.A. - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I got blown away listening to this! I love it. The whole CD is good - I like especially like F*** Tha Police, Straight Outta Compton, Express Yourself (Remix), 100 Miles and Running, and Just Don't Bite it. This is what I call real rap. Get rid of those Nelly and Big Tymers CDs and pick up some N.W.A stuff. Also, pick up some LL Cool J CDs, too. R.I.P Eazy E. I like a lot of other rap stuff, but this is the best CD I own -- No doubt. Buy it -- If you're offended with the music, don't buy it. Hey -- I'm only 12 and I get all of this stuff. Once again, pick it up.

This review is from: N.W.A. - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
You should have all the albums by this group but this is also great to have and the two new songs are good too. All the songs are my favorite and this album is worth having in your collection. It is too bad that they will never be another group like this because these guys brought gangsta to mainstream and a lot of these rappers today owe there careers to this group. Anyways just buy this and be happy you are hearing sounds from the underground.

Before "Dr. Dre", "Eazy-E", and "Ice Cube", there was "N.W.A.". Of course this group included all those guys, and "M.C. Ren" and "D.J. Yella". They were probably more responsible for starting the "gangsta rap" thing, than even that pimp "Ice-T". This collection misses a few tracks, but it does include "Straight Outta Compton", "Express Yourself", "I Ain't The One", and "Gangsta Gangsta". Plus the huge hit "F*** Tha Police", which was pretty controvertial and hardcore when it came out. Overall it's a great sampling of "N.W.A.", and a real sign of the times. It'll go great with your "Public Enemy" and "Run-DMC" albums.
