Previously, I used a Dell Inspiron laptop, which I purchased four years ago for school. That computer was getting old and running slower. I wanted a new computer that would be very functional as both a work station, gaming laptop, and media player.
First off, the laptop is beautiful. It is very sleek and shiny, with a large, 16-inch wide-screen display. There are blue/white lights on the side that light up depending on which graphics card you are using (more on that later). The display is very bright and seems to "pop," I love the look. The only downside is that the case attracts fingerprints. Use the cloth that comes with the computer in order to clean it!
More important than the outside is what is inside. Here, the Asus N61JV-X4 has blown me away thus far. The i5 processor is blazing fast: It takes a fraction of the time to load documents and web pages. The start-up time is virtually non-existent. As a part time gamer, I also wanted a computer that could handle modern PC games. The combination of the i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a 1 GB NVIDIA graphics card certainly meets the bill. For example, Starcraft 2 was released in 2010 and it runs great even on high settings. The N61JV-X4 is capable of running every game I could think to research. What is neat about the computer is that it can switch from internal graphics to the high-powered NVIDIA card.Read more ›
We currently have a Lenovo Y530. I was hesitant regarding the chicklet style keyboard but its okay. Unlike the Y530, the function key is inside the control key instead of on the outside which I much prefer. The Lenovo's IdeaPad keyboard is better but not enough to make me really care. And no numpads or 16" for IdeaPads. The ASUS N61JV TouchPad is somewhat more sensitive than I would care for and substantially more false moves and fat finger brushes than the Lenovo Y530 we have. Its enough to be annoying even after adjusting the settings. I bumped the setting up one more level of sensitivity and had the opposite problems. This is perhaps the biggest issue I have with the laptop. But since this is a desktop replacement first and foremost, I always fly with a mouse so moot point except when I need to go remote from time to time.
Performance is outstanding. So fast I honestly couldn't want for anything faster as it would be wasted. I had debated going with the next model up for the I7 for an extra $100. Definitely not needed for my purposes. I am an extreme multi-tasker and its typical for me to have a dozen applications going at the same time. No performance decrease at all. Not really a gamer. I play C&C3 at highest level and its perfect. Which isn't saying much compared to modern games, but there it is.Read more ›
For weeks i been searching and trying decide for which laptop to buy. So many factors i took into Consideration. i was looking for a reputable brand, fast processor & fast hard drive, other features like Usb 3.0 etc. After reading a few product reviews and looking at the features this laptop had. I finally decided to purchase this one.
Note : Amazon Specs say this is a:
"Intel Core i5-430M Processor 2.26 GHz"
This is incorrect by in fact its Actually a
"Intel Core i5-450M Processor 2.40 GHz" even better
when it first arrived I am amazed to see beautiful this laptop really is. At the beginning i had a few step backs i had issues connecting to wireless, I Called Asus Tech support and that issue was quickly resolved by simply pressing a few Keys
later on i was a bit disappointed on the speakers they wasn't as loud as i wanted them to be. At first i was like wanted to return the laptop but after reviewing all the positive features on this laptop i decided to keep it.
I found a way to make the speakers sound a bit better by simply going to:
Start-> Control panel-> open Realtek HD Audio Manager-> Then Enable SRS Premium Sound, you will notice a difference
Also i seen a few concerns of people not being happy with the idea of having multiple Partitions on this laptop.
well i have some Great news. This laptop give you a option to merge them into one whole partition i will explain how to do it, it is part of the recovery process. I was surprise to see it took less then 15 minutes to have windows up running again.
When you first get your PC make sure you make the Recovery Discs (4-DVD) in total.Read more ›
