5.0 out of 5 stars amazing g-bike
My two-year-old rides his g-bike every day in the park - he is not any more coordinated than any other 2 year old but everyone is surprised to see small child on a bike. 1.0 out of 5 stars Do not recommend.
My 2-yr and 3-yr olds did not like this bike at all and would not even try to use it. I was able to get them to sit on it but they did not like the feel or fit of the bike and refused to even try it out. I sent the bike back since it said returns were accepted within 30 days and that process was a hassle. I had to call twice about my refund and it has not processed yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing g-bike, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Micro G-Bike (Toy)
My two-year-old rides his g-bike every day in the park - he is not any more coordinated than any other 2 year old but everyone is surprised to see small child on a bike. We also have friends with 2-year-old twins who ride it, love it -- they are in NY and get near-rock-star-treatment for their proficiency on it, they are also just 2 but there are 2 of them, so all the more fun to see. It took my son a couple days of pushing it, sitting on it, sort of moving it around rather than riding it. There are no pedals, they sit on it, and move their feet like they are running, then lift their feet for a coast. Having seen the twins on it, I knew he would love it once he got it, but I did have to take away (just temporarily!) his scooter so he would concentrate, and now he actually seems to prefer it. It is partly the fun of the bike, but also he likes attention he gets from everyone. I did lower the seat to make it easier for him to reach the ground. The handle bars and seat adjust higher and lower. Anyway, he now has a blast on it and it is definitely his favorite thing to ride, more fun even than mini micro scooter, made by same people. His favorite thing is to ride it down a slight incline -he runs a bit then coasts down the driveway, then repeat, repeat, repeat. At the park, he rides/drags it around and other kids take turns. The amazing thing is that when he is coasting on it, he is actually balancing on a 2 wheel bicycle (with pretty small wheels) and when it is time for him to ride a 2-wheel bicycle, I cannot see why it will be any problem for him at all. Cool toy, nice design. Also very light - when he gets tired, I can easily carry him and it - weighs about 3 pounds.

After being impressed by how skilled young children are at bike riding (w/o training wheels) in Europe, we discovered balance bikes are the reason. Most kids start on a balance bike (no pedals) to master the balance aspect of bike riding prior to starting to pedal; they also start young. This model is unlike the balance bikes we saw, but we like the portability aspect and the lightweight design. The wheels, while reminiscent of in-line wheels, are much larger. So far, my only complaint is that the clamp to adjust the seat does not work well. Once any weight is put on the seat, it returns to the lowest setting, but this is minor as the seat adjustment amounts to perhaps 1 inch. The handlebar adjustment also seems to be unnecessary for the very minor height change.

Our almost 2 year old enjoys walking while holding onto the handles and is starting to sit on the seat while walking too. Because it is light, if it falls over, our child is able to bring it back upright as well. In a short time, our child has progressed from tentative walking to a faster trot and we are seeing how this will be a good learning bike in the long run.

You may also find the youtube videos on this product to be helpful (search: g-bike).

Personal note on age range: The given range of 2-4 yrs is fair, but I think some 1 1/2 year olds might enjoy it too, whereas an average to tall 4 year old might be a bit too tall for it to be worthwhile (really too small for any 5 year old).

--------UPDATE/COMMENT-----------
I had to return the bike to Kickboard USA for repair (this was completely my fault and had nothing to do with the product itself). I could not have been more pleased with the excellent customer service. From my initial call to the return of the bike, they were quick to respond and very helpful; a level of customer service I do not believe I have experienced in a long time.

We bought the g-bike about two months ago for our daughter who had just turned two. She loves it! Within a few minutes she was scooting about the driveway. Within days she was whizzing around the neighborhood. This is a great toy. It enables her to keep up with big brother -- he's five. We can go on family walks -- nice brisk walks -- without having to wait for her to catch up... or listen to her cry and whine in frustration about the peddles on her tricycle bumping her shins. She plays with this toy every day, and always tries to bring it inside when it's time to go to bed or take a nap. Spend the money. You will not regret it. PS We also have a Micro Mini Scooter by the same company. Bought it for our son about a year ago. He loves it. Plays with it every day. All the other boys in the neighborhood want one. And, little sister started riding it when she was just 20-months old! She loves it, too. We plan on upgrading to the Micro Maxi Scooter for Christmas.

I got this bike for my 2 yr old son two months ago. The moment he saw the bike he loved it. It is very intuitive to ride and as he used it he got better at it. It is still his best toy. It was very easy to assemble and there is some room to adjust the seat and handle as your kid grows. I enjoy watching him enjoy his bike.

I bought this for my son when he was a little over 2 and a half. I was impressed when it arrived. It seemed well made and adjustments were easy. He was very excited at first but it did not really "take". He would not practice in a way that I thought would be helpful and would get tired and frustrated. It collected dust for a year, until he rediscovered it last week. He is now 3 and a half. After one day he is cruising at a good clip and clearly learning to balance. He gets up to speed then lifts both legs to balance on the two wheels. It is lightweight and very easy for him to handle. He keeps asking to ride it and I plan to have him ride to preschool in the morning when the weather gets warmer. Definitely recommend it though while a 2 year may physically fit on the bike, it may be more enjoyable and easy to pick up for a slightly older child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek Look, and Good Balance Trainer, August 22, 2009

Good bike to learn how to balance. In addition, it also has a sleek look that that people will keep stopping you and ask "what is it", "where did you get it", "I should get one for my kid, too", etc. Anyway, it's been fun, now my boy is into real two-wheelers since he knows how to ride. He's only 4.

Overall, I'm satisfied. More expensive than other balance bikes out there, but if you appreciate quality and innovation, this is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bike for 2 and up, June 21, 2011

My daughter received this bike as a gift when she turned 2. It took a few attempts to get her to understand the balance part; my older daughter did a demo to show her how it worked. Well, that was almost 2 1/2 years ago and this week, my 4 year old got on a two-wheeler and took off on her FIRST TRY. We skipped that pesky training-wheel stage and it's all thanks to this balance bike.

I can't recommend this bike highly enough. It's lightweight (easy carrying) yet extremely sturdy, handles the weight of mom (!), the wheels allow it to be ridden inside without damaging the floor...on and on. Your child will LOVE the freedom and speed -- beats any trike by a longshot! We live in the city and the bike was ridden on bumpy, cracked sidewalks as well as the running path at the park. My only complaint is that these aren't made for bigger kids!!!

Make sure to get a helmet because once they get going, they can go very fast. It's also a good way for your child to learn to share because every child will want to give it a try ;-).

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't adjust handlebar height, March 28, 2011

I earlier gave a low rating because I could not adjust the handlebar height--it had gotten stuck. I had to take a hammer to the handlebars to loosen it up.
My 3 year old loves riding this. It took some time, but he can now balance over 5 seconds before he has to put his feet down. The bike's design draws a lot of positive comments from bystanders, and this also encouraged my son to ride it. The best part of this bike is that it's light, so very easy to carry in one hand or hang on the back of a jogging stroller.
It IS on the small side, sized more for a 18 month-2 year old. Even with the handlebars and seat up all the way, it's too small for my average-sized 3.5 year old. There is a bigger G-bike plus, but we'll be looking for a bike with pedals soon.

My son received this for his second birthday. At first he did not use it much. Thought maybe it was not going to be a hit. Now less than two months later he's a pro. He loves going for rides around the neighborhood. He's lifting his feet off the ground and gliding. Money well spent. Glad I gave him time to warm up to it.
