Book Description

In five glorious books, the Layers of Veronica series takes you into a real fairy tale which teaches about life.

Veronica Palese is a New York City girl who has achieved the American Dream that every immigrant hopes for. At thirty-five, she has a lucrative law practice, a designer wardrobe, two gorgeous children and a milieu of friends that is worth all the riches in the world; more so, she doesn't make any excuses for the non-traditional life that she is happy in continuing.

NAPOLEON begins new journey filled with people, opportunities and lessons that allow her not just to climb, but delve into the most beautiful of lives.

Written with symbolism, Rutigliano weaves a world evoking literary references that is significantly more than what first appears.

Editorial Reviews

  • I'm not sure anyone can go into this novel off reading the synopsis or reviews and really be prepared for what you will get out of it. It is so much more than a Erotic Novel, it is inspirational, imaginative, and yet real at the same time. The main character is so incredibly well developed and charismatic that you will be eating up her every thought and action. Kudo's to Emilia L. Rutigliano for creating a novel that was fast paced and drew me in from the very beginning. You will not be able to read this one without going to pick up the next one, fair warning    - The Steamy Side Blog
  • I was not prepared for how much I truly enjoyed this novel. It was really an inspirational read and felt very REAL and RAW. It will just really evoke a large number of emotions out of you as the reader. Just go get a copy, once  you read it you will be so immersed in her story, you will need to go get the next book ASAP! - A Life Through Books
  •  If you are looking for just another Erotic Romp, this is definitely not for you. If you do read it, you will be very pleasantly surprised on the deep and intriguing story you get out of it. -- Texas Book Nook
  • I really liked the concept of the book, that there are layers to society, and boy are there. - Ramblings of a Book Lunatic

From the Back Cover

Veronica Palese had it all:  the looks, the brains, the personality and the wardrobe; not to mention a perfect husband, a fabulous career and two adorable children...until that perfect husband left her for another woman.
Thus begins the routine life of a typical New York City immigrant with ambition and drive.  Though everything starts like an ordinary connection going through the tried and true, each new relationship delves into parts the universe that Veronica didn't know existed.
There is more to tradition than following it blindly without question.
What if you were given an opportunity to become the artist and the art?
What if you weren't looking to remarry?
What if there is more than one man in your life, would you need to choose?
What Would Veronica Do?

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and real July 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have to say I didn't know what to expect from this book. I started reading it thinking it was a romance novel and it turned out it wasn't. It is the story of a very interesting woman called Veronica whom every man around her seems to fall in love with.
Since I was expecting a romance novel, I was expecting a "prince" to show up any time, but there was not so much a prince as "princes"
Veronica, the main character, is a woman that I will probably have as a friend but I will definitely not share her lifestyle, and I will definitely keep her away from my husband, just in case, you never know...
So this book is about Veronica's life, an immigrant in NY, who has achieved a version of the American dream. If you are looking for reality, and are tired of hard-to-believe idiotic heroines of romance novels then this is your story. Veronica is unlike them all. She knows what to do, what to say, doesn't get intimidated, doesn't get embarrassed, is not clumsy, not socially awkward. She is a typical hard-working new-yorker.
Being an immigrant myself I understood the whole neighborhood dynamics and I think it's totally accurate. We grew up with neighbors having an opinion about our lives, and sharing it with us and everybody else who would care to hear it. So I really enjoyed the gossipy old ladies in action
There are many characters and little stories but the good thing is that you don't get bored when reading about the lives of these secondary characters. You don't know if their stories will be important later on in the story but you read along.
The ending was my favorite part, not because the book was over but because it left me wanting to know more about Veronica and this new man she finds.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is wonderful August 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have never read a book that got me so into the story right from the start, and that's hard to do. Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down. With me, it's really easy to put a book down and not be so excited to find out what happened. I WAS SAD EVERY NIGHT WHEN I HAD TO GO TO BED BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. Emilia really knows how to tell the story, and I loved how she mixed in Russian with American. I can't WAIT to read the second, third, fourth and fifth book :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read June 16, 2013
By Tatiana
Format:Kindle Edition
I can most definitely recommend this book. You really can't put it down once you start. Fast paced, but with attention to details, this book introduces you, together with the main character, Veronica, to many layers of society. Her upbeat attitude, charm, and ability to see "good" in everyone are simply infectious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great novel! I could not put it down! August 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really loved this book. I believe this is the author's first novel but it was as well written as any novel you would get in a bookstore. It had a great story line: a strong woman balancing her family, career and exciting sex life! I just started the second book and am already itching to go back to reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars living the layers with Veronica September 28, 2013
By Nina
Format:Kindle Edition
My girlfriend shoved the book at me for half a year before I consented to reading it. I had plenty of other books. What was the big deal? This is it. THIS is the big deal. This review is for the series, not just NAPOLEON. I love Veronica. She is absolutely one of my best friends. I also trust and adore the counsel of Veronica's friends... Priya, Joanna. And sure, I am in love with KD, but there is only one Jeremy. Emilia Rutigliano has, singlehandedly ruined my dating life, because I keep comparing everyone to the men in LAYERS. I know them - every one of them. So this isn't just a book or a story. It's three years of Veronica's life that I lived with her. I went through that divorce. I slept with all her men (I wish). I attended all the galas and orgies and balls in Paris, NY and Singapore. I bawled my eyes out in hospitals and I bathed elephants in Malaysia. Should you read this book? Not if you want a "nice" story about two people falling in love and having sex and living happily ever after. Skip this series. But if you want to discover the layers of wealth, society, travel, culture, religion, fashion, service and love - real love - you'd be insane not to discover the Layers of Veronica. You don't just finish the series. You continue to live it and loving it.

I recommend everyone to read this. A most eventful journey, taken by one of the most outspoken heroines. Every woman can identify with Veronica, and every man wants to be with a "Veronica". Read it and Enjoy!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A spicy taste of home August 20, 2014
By Ilona T
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I usually don't reveiw the romance novels I read because they are variations of the same thing and a relaxing time killer for me. However, since I am a Russian Jewish immagrent from the early 1980s, this book really struck a nerve. I am so shocked how very similar the young, motivated kids that had moved to this country for a better life, lived their lives. I could have written this book as an autobiography, minus the lovers (I've been with the same man for over 20years). We dated for 10 years while I was in Cardiovascular Perfusion school (not Law). But we stayed at the Millinium hotel right after I dragged him to Century 21 many times. I loved how Emilia painted the Russian community as loyal and family oriented. My grandmother was such a huge part of my life. Even thou we are very American now, this story takes me back to my roots, while adding some spice and fantasy. Thank for having more than one book, because I would have been traumatized if it ended so soon. Great job!

More About the Author

Emilia I. Rutigliano was born in the Soviet Union, grew up in Forest Hills and practices law in Brooklyn. As such, she is most proud of her accent, which defines her as... well, her. She is happily married to the crazy Italian she's been with since college, who still suffers from a severe addiction to travel (in very acute form). Emilia is also blessed with three precious darlings who are now teenagers. They occasionally acknowledge her existence when the internet malfunctions and when they need money.

This is why Emilia writes about Veronica and Alexandra.

Both series are geared toward readers who enjoy a full story about multi-dimensional characters. Because LAYERS and ORDER take place in many locations with many different cultures, Emilia doesn't write it unless she visits each location and meets the people who speak, think and act the same way as the characters in the book.

It's a tough life, but she perseveres...
