5.0 out of 5 stars Nice inexpensive NASB, December 28, 2009

This review is from: NASB Compact Bible (Leather Bound)
First, the cover is not leather but a rubbery synthetic material which looks great although it feels cheap. That suits me fine, and it's still a step up from stiff hard binding, and I would never buy a leather bound Bible anyway now that they so freely update Bible translations as if they were software -- compared to the old King James Version that is still popular after 400 years! A leather binding would easily outlive a modern translation. I have an old NASB I bought in 1978 and the leather binding is still great while the contents are considered old. I still use that old NASB with all its footnotes and cross references (and Thees and Thous) for study but not for reading.

I love this new compact NASB because it does NOT have cross references, and just a minimum of footnotes. It's much easier to read without trying to filter out tiny letters surrounding every other word. I have discovered just how readable the NASB is now, and it's a real joy, and I have the confidence that it is as accurate as an English translation can get. I also love the fact that YHWH is still translated LORD in all caps so I can insert the name mentally, which is my habit.

The page edges on this Bible are gold and there is a nice ribbon matching the burgundy color of the cover. The binding is stitched, which is important. The cover is very flexible so this is a good floppy Bible that will allow you to flip to your desired passage in no time. This is a great size for carrying to church and wherever you read your Bible. And it looks like an expensive Bible. I personally think the Greek Cross on the cover of the burgundy version is cool.

The best part is it's so cheap, if I lose mine or it gets destroyed (don't ask me how such a thing could happen) I won't cry; I'll just get another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small and well-made, August 11, 2010

Very compact, complete Bible in black letter edition. Smyth-sewn signatures and made to last. Not leather, but a rubber-like material that stands up to wear. Notes are minimal. Easy to read. Printed in China, which is rather ironic, since the Chinese are not permitted to own Bibles generally.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy size stays open by it self...., June 8, 2011

This is a great little bible!

First of the translation is for me the best there is as word for word translation!
Then it is a great size and not to heavy!
I love the color I't is the brownish red one!

This is my bible I use the most because I can cary it with me alway. I love that it opens smoothly.
The letters are not to small for this size of a blble if you don't have great eye side it might be to small...

It does not have other everything Jesus said in red or a concordance in the back or a map etc. it is pretty much just that what is in the blible.

I am happy with it and will use it till it is not usable anymore because of wear ;)

Hope this help you decide to buy...

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Bible for Travel, April 30, 2011

Sunshine (Florida U.S.A.) - See all my reviews

This review is from: NASB Compact Bible (Leather Bound)
I purchased this little Bible for travel, and for taking with me when I have many items to carry in a book bag and can't add a 10 pound study bible to my load.

This Bible is feather light, and the cover is made of a sturdy synthetic material. The text size of 6.8 isn't too difficult to read for those with good eyesight. I am able to read it without reading glasses and my eyes don't feel strained, though I do have to hold it somewhat close to my face. The pages are very thin which contributes to it's weight reduction, but also makes it unlikely that one could do any hi-lighting or note taking in the Bible without having the marks bleed through the pages. The front inside cover of my Bible could have used a bit of extra glue in one area, the the mild flaw is unlikely to cause any problems as long as I treat the book well. Overall, this is an attractive little Bible that will function well as a traveling companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stocking Stuffer, December 8, 2010

Bought a dozen of these to hand out to friends of mine as "stocking stuffers". NASB is widely regarded (at least in my area - Texas) as a great translation to understand the Word of God. It's not real leather, but it has a great feel and they seem to be pretty durable.
