A solid, quality Bible,

First of all, the New American Standard Bible is a wonderful translation; the updated version made it even better. Zondervan puts their NASB text in paragraph form, unlike the Foundation's editions. This does add to the ease of reading and comprehension.
The print in this edition is large, not giant, but comfortable to read. What stands out most is the darkness of the print, both black and red, that also contributes to ease of reading. The center column references are quite thorough with many optional readings of words and passages in the text. Therefore, this is an excellent study Bible. The concordance, too, is better than most. Foundation Publications and Zondervan both publish giant or large print editions of the NASB. I find this edition to be the most practical of them all, having purchased all four. Its size is the most convenient, fitting well in the hand. The center column references and translation notes are very helpful, and again it it very comfortable to read. Zondervan has published a good quality Bible. The bonded leather is quite nice and the Bible is sturdily bound. I really enjoy mine.

Reaching Biblical Proportions,

This edition reaches "Biblical Proportions" or more appropriately the printed text is proportionally sized for comfortable reading! The "Large Print" is large but not overbearing and thus makes reading more palatable on the eyes and reduces fatigue and strain allowing longer intervals of reading time without becoming tired. The binding and quality of materials used in this edition is top notch. They did not skimp and publish a flimsy book but rather published a sturdy book. I like the translation and the layout of the printed words. This is a good edition.

The NASB is a highly accurate translation, and the cross-references and translators' notes in this edition make it a great choice for solid Bible study. For a relatively small-sized Bible the large print (which is also dark and bold) is amazing. The words of Christ in red are aesthetically pleasing, and a helpful tool in locating certain passages. This Bible is sewn (not glued) so lays flat on the table. For the price it is amazing value. I've got the burgundy bonded-leather edition. If you already know your way around the Bible DON'T get the indexed edition, as it will just slow you down and get in the way!!! Yes, the wording of the NASB is a little awkward at times as it tries to render the Hebrew and Greek as literally as possible. Try using it along with the New Living Translation (2nd Edition) which is fresh and dynamic, and will provide added clarity to certain passages of Scripture. God bless!

I enjoy my NAS Bible, the leather cover is nice, the print is large and easy to read. The paper is a little on the thin side but other than that I am quite happy with my purchase.

NASB Leather Bible,
This review is from: NASB Giant Print Reference, Personal Size (Leather Bound)
I am very satisfied with the quality of this product. The only problem was that when I got the ISBN off of the Bible that I wanted--that one had a thumbed index & this one doesn't which is odd to me because I thought the ISBN would be the same exact book. Anyway, I am still happy because I got the Bible at nearly 50% less than I would have paid at the bookstore.

What's to like about this Bible?
- Bonded leather cover (burgundy) - Lasted through more than two years of casual family use (including children) - Very nice handling size (they call it "personal size"), fits easily in your hand or lap - The lines of text are fairly compact, but it still reads easily - Two columns of text with center column references. - Short informational introduction to each book. Handy reference for the book's background, author, date, theme, message. - Seven maps in the back of at least average quality. A little different format here, but I think I like it. - Concordance with brief definitions. So why two stars for such a nice Bible? Reader BEWARE. The product name is "giant print" but the text actually barely qualifies as large print. It is actually the same size text as my IIS Bible, which contains fairly large but still "normal size" text. I assume most people who purchase this Bible are doing so for the text size. Most Amazon reviewers seem to be happy with this Bible, despite the moderately-sized text. I guess you could rate it "large print" but don't expect giant. Also, I don't like the "paragraph format" Bible text, where the verse numbers occur where they fall within each paragraph. I much prefer "verse format" where each verse number is listed at the left of the column. This makes particular verses much easier to find. (Have you ever found yourself scanning through a paragraph over and over trying to find the verse number?) $35 is probably the going rate for Bibles like this one, and it appears the construction in the leather cover and binding is good quality. However, the two drawbacks I mentioned make the product so much less useful to our family that I wish I could return it (we didn't pick up on the verse issue right away). For this reason, I feel the product is overpriced. If you are a reader that prefers paragraph format and doesn't need giant print, this may be a perfect Bible for you.

for someone with poor vision this was a good choice. i wanted a Bible that was a little bit smaller than my study Bibles but generally smaller means the font is tiny. this Bible is a good mix of size and readability. i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a Bible to carry with them anywhere they go especially if you have vision issues. the construction is also very nice for the price. it isnt anything remarkable but it is of good quality. it doesnt seem to be wearing down with normal daily use.

This special edition is very nice for those of us that have a hard time reading the small print that most bibles are (6-8 point is the norm, occasionally a high quality one will be 9, this one is a size 10) written in . If you use reading glasses already the print really enhances it; makes the writting very clear and legible, or if you are in between where you can read w/o glasses except for small stuff, then this book is perfect for you. Don't let the GIANT intimidate you, it is large for a bible; but not large like its a coffee talble book print size.
The scriptures are written different than you're average bible. While they still maintain all the verse numberings, they aren't seperated line by line. Instead it is in more of a book-like format in terms of how it is printed. I find it makes it very easy and faster to read, the bonded leather is good quality as well. Only aspect that keeps in from a 5 (would rate it 4 1/2 if it were possible) is that the references are extremely small and hard to follow. While the scripture words are a 10 size font, the references are like a 4 point. If or when I actually do want to use the references to read more or find the other related materials, I go get my study bible instead of struggling to keep track of where I'm supposed to be looking/cross-referencing in the tiny little column in the middle that this version has. |
