5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific translation and a great edition
It astonds me to see that there are no other reviews of this particular edition of the NASB yet, as I have found not only this translation to be a wonder, but this particular edition to be, quite frankly, one of the best editions of the NASB out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not true to the to the listing
I purchased this based on the print size and that it is leather bound. When it arrived, the Bible is stamped on the back with "Premium Leather Look" I am not interested in a Bible that will not hold up the continuous use. The cover is a heavy duty cardboard. I don't think it would last very long. I sent it back the day after we received it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific translation and a great edition, May 12, 2004
It astonds me to see that there are no other reviews of this particular edition of the NASB yet, as I have found not only this translation to be a wonder, but this particular edition to be, quite frankly, one of the best editions of the NASB out there.

The New American Standard Bible is, according to many religious leaders and experts in the fields of the original languages, the most literally accurate translation, true to the greatest precision to the exact words of the most reliable Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts. Still, not only is it the most literally accurate translation, but this, especially in its newly updated form, is a very easily comprehended translation. No, it is not always as fluid on the tongue as some of the dynamic-equivalent translations, nor even the beautiful "essentially" literally accurate English Standard Version, but it is still a very understandable and well-worded literal translation. And to capture the word-for-word meaning of the original text in English is a miraculous wonder. This Bible has been embraced widely among religious leaders and theologians, prominent pastors, and others, and is gaining praise even among the lay circles. Not only is this a fully literal and readable translation, it is a very conservative translation, sticking to the widely accepted literal meanings of the words without interpretive influence. This is a translation good for anyone who really loves to throw themselves deep into the Word of God and get all that's worthwhile from it.

Above, I mentioned the beautiful, yet still literally accurate, English Standard Version (a recent 2001 literal translation from a team headed by J.I. Packer which is rapidly gaining popularity). The ESV is a superior version, in my opinion, but there is a lack of great outside resources available to complement and enhance it right now, in contrast to the long-time trusted NASB, which has a bounty of helps designed specifically for it from the Lockman foundation and Zondervan.

This edition is very worthwhile because it is compact, yet very high-quality. Zondervan, most famously noted for publishing most editions of the NIV bibles also now has secured rights to publish the NASB. This thinline edition is of remarkable quality, is quite durable (unlike some of the previously released NASB bibles from Foundation Publication and World Publishers) and also has a feature not found in many NASBs: paragraph formatting. This NASB is divided into paragraphs like the NIV and other popular translations, instead of verse-by-verse such as most NASB and King James bibles. This allows you to freely read and enjoy smoothly the rich literal accuracy of the New American Standard Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for, January 11, 2006
By
1.no added commentary, etc. - just the Word
2.words of Jesus in red
3.compact size
4.legible text (my perscription is +225 - I need my glasses to read the text, but is perfectly legible)
5.paragraph format
6.black, soft-cover leather

Others have complained of 'bleed-through' (you can see the text on preceding and following pages), however, it is no worse than the vast majority of bibles that use thin, high quality paper. If you're used to reading other bibles, you will not even notice the bleed-through.

Overall - simple, quality, and elegant. Perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks great to me, June 4, 2008
I just purchased this Bible for my boyfriend and am tempted to buy it for myself as well. The reasons I bought this one...
1. When referring to God in He/Him, the pronouns are capitalized. It almost aches when Bibles don't do that!
2. Jesus's text is in red.
3. There's a section at the back, and I can't remember how it's titled at the moment, where you can look up verses according to "when you're depressed", "when you're feeling lazy" and things we deal with in life, such as "death" and "happiness"
4 it just looks cool :-) yes I did intentionally list this as the last reason. Neither my boyfriend or I care that it's not real leather. It has a very nice feel and sophisticated look.
With that said, we are both looking forward to reading the Bible and becoming more and more familiar with God's word.
Update--I'd also like to add a 5th reason-I really like how I've been reading in the description and other reviews that is a very accurate translation from the original Word.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good small bible but has some bleed though, July 23, 2005
By
Wu Wei (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NASB Thinline Bible (Hardcover)
This is a small reader's NASB bible which has a number of good features, but has annoying but tolerable bleed through. It has a black hard cover and can stay open on the desk by itself. The center margins are wide enough to easily view the text closest to the binding.

It is in paragraph format, except for poetry, and is red letter. The text contains the standard translator's notes, but no cross references. It does not even cross reference scripture which refers to other scripture. The text is NOT self pronouncing, which is good IMO because that can be distracting to the reader.

There are no other study aids in the bible text itself. However there is about sixty pages of helps in the back, which are mostly a concordance, but there are also list of promises, perspectives, etc. There are 8 full color maps.

The text is smaller than a typical bible. The biggest problem is the bleed through. The pages are rather thin, although not onion skin, and I can see not only the current page, but the page on the back. In blank sections I can, with some difficulty, read the page underneath.

The bleed through problem is not worse than most other bibles, in fact it is somewhat better than the typical thin line. One can easily read each page by holding it up while reading, something that greatly cuts the bleed through.

Except for the bleed through, this is a good bible for a NASB fan who wants a small bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paragraphs! Finally!, November 17, 2004
By
This review is from: NASB Thinline Bible (Hardcover)
Finally somebody has made an edition of the NASB in paragraph format! It's so much easier to read. Plus, this Bible is sturdy and lightweight, and about the size of a journal or sketchbook. It also has color maps and a concordance. It's nice, I like mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!, July 12, 2010

I love this bible, it is so cute and the size is perfect. I was afraid the print would be too small since the dimensions are smaller but they aren't. Any female would love it!

Excellent little slimline Bible but it does have small print. Not for the seeing impaired. Easy to carry and great for travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible and Price, October 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This thinline NASB Bible is perfect. I had been lugging around my MacArthur NASB Study Bible for church and travel, but needed something smaller for travel. This is very lightweight, well made, and the font is a very good size for being a thin Bible. You would expect a tiny font, but that's not the case in this Bible. The concordance seems to be like what you'd find in a normal sized Bible. You have all your basic, colored maps as well. A+ Bible. And an even more amazing message inside its pages!

God Bless!
