2.0 out of 5 stars Might as well be NASCAR 06
I'm one of those people planning to transition over to the PS3, but not until the novelty (and hopefully, the price) comes down. Until then, I'm stuck with the PS2. I'm one of those people planning to transition over to the PS3, but not until the novelty (and hopefully, the price) comes down. Until then, I'm stuck with the PS2. NASCAR 07 is exactly the same as 06, but with this year's drivers. They added all the hype about the momentum meter, but you know what? I don't see or experience any difference during the race as the momentum meter changes. The cars seem to drive and handle the same, although they simplified the car set-up screen. They still have similar challenges, tracks, etc. For those of you who like Carl Edwards, sorry, but he is not in the game; however, Tony Raines and Robby Gordon are (!?!?!?!?!??????). For the Dale, Jr. fans hoping to run the cool black paint scheme or the Ralph paint scheme from earlier this year, forget it. Same with Dale, Sr. A couple of years ago, you could race Sr.'s silver car, Coke car, Wrangler car, etc. But not in 07. The last two games, we've had to suffer through looking at the same menu pics of JG24 and now Sadler. The year before that, you could select a favorite driver, and the menu background would have pics and stats of the driver your chose. Can't do that anymore, either. You can choose a favorite team on Madden 07, but why not NASCAR?!?! And last but not least, I'm one who likes to create and race his own car, instead of driving an existing driver's car in Championship or Fight to the Top modes. I have ALWAYS used car #83, going back to when you could first create your own car (NASCAR 01, 02?). Thanks to the lame, generic 3-digit numbers, I can't run MY number! The same goes for the Fight to the Top mode. All you are allowed to run is 3-digit numbers, they won't let you run any open single or double digit numbers. The paint schemes and number fonts are all exactly the same too, and have been for the last 3 years!!! Come on EA; just because the PS2 is about to go extinct doesn't mean you can short-change its gamers, especially those who can't afford the $500 to shell out when it first comes out. A common pet peeve from a lot of reviewers on 06, and proof again that EA doesn't listen to customer demands, is the lack of stats in season and fight to the top modes. There are no stats on championships, no trophy rooms, no accumulations of track records, wins, top 5's, top 10's, etc. (like they had in Thunder 05). I guess, basically, I have nothing good to say about this game. Do yourselves a favor; buy NASCAR 06 and save the money if you want a solid PS2 NA$CAR game. Otherwise, I guess I should have known better.

EA Sports is putting too much effort into what add-ons they can create instead of the racing itself. Pit-stop graphics of the people who change your tires was cool...once. They continue to have graphic flow problems if all cars pit at once as well (Not smooth at all). Also, not the best game to buy if you don't own a wheel of some sort to use. Very hard to drive using a hand held controller. I would rather EA pay more attention to actual racing and car-handling vice worrying so much about adding a phone for "NEXTEL" and email functions etc. Paleez. Build a game that represents the sport vice the sponsors. Fun to play. Don't get me wrong. Cool stuff to play with in addition to the racing. Just that the racing isn't that good. My kids and I all love NASCAR and their games. None of us are real interested in this one. It's getting old quick. Buy one used for $15 or so and don't by new unless you have to collect them all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Half A**ed...should make it Half Price., October 3, 2006

EA Sports, with their exclusive license to produce NASCAR games continues to churn out run of the mill games, with little to no realism.

Cars can still flip 20 times, be "magically" repaired in 20 seconds, and go on to finish 3rd. A car which runs out of gas finishes last. A Whelen Modified race is held in Milwaukee in February. These are just three of the unrealistic scenarios that are part of NASCAR 07.

This doesn't mention the unrealistic racing action, the continuation of "Total Team Control", and one of this years "features", which are blurred cars, which only annoys the cornea.

Furthermore, while EA's "stick and ball" sport games have very detailed stats, this game has virtually none. There is no recap of individual races, nor is there a way to view individual stats for a particular season. The only stats given are cummulative stats in a series.

Also, while all other EA Sports games have some variant of the "Fox Box", this game features no real time scoring, other than a position tracker, and the "Pole Chase" during qualifying.

Furthermore, the game is still "kiddied down", and sponsors such as Miller Lite don't appear in the game. EA sure doesn't have a problem putting these games in their baseball games, however.

To be fair, however, many of the comments by previously reviewers are not true. Drivers choose whether or not they want to be in the game. Kenny Schrader and Carl Edwards chose not to be in the game; Robby and Tony [Raines] did. This however doesn't excuse the lack of real drivers in the Busch and Truck Series--EA simply doesn't bother to contact many teams at this level.

Overall, the game is still a very poor representation of the sport, and your $40 can be spent better elsewhere. For a great game--look at one put out in 2003--Papyrus' NASCAR Racing: 2003 Season.

This game is the SAME exact game, graphics, cars, drivers, and tracks as last years game. they might as well call is "nascar 2005 continued"

I remember when i bought nascar 2003, and when i bought 2004 the next year there was a HUGE difference in driving, tracks, career mode, and A LOT more :)

but from '05 to '06, it leaves me to believe that EA sports will be out of buisness in the matter of SECONDS. im sorry, im just being honest.

4.0 out of 5 stars NASCAR 07, May 30, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NASCAR 2007 (Video Game)
This game is nice, since it keeps the NASCAR games going, but there are several things that are just terrible. First, most of the special paint schemes are not included. The only ones are for terrible drivers like David Stremme, and only a few decent drivers like Gregg Biffle. Then, all the create a car numbers are 100's. I was always 64! But not anymore, now it is very unrealistic in that sense. The NASCAR games went from fake, but fun, then to real and fun, now it is fake and boring. I still enjoy the game, because the actual racing is more fun than before. But the things that NASCAR Thunder 2003 was based on are gone now. The pit stops aren't as exciting as they were.
Then came the fake sponsors. It takes so much out of the game when you pass the Coffee Blasts Cereal car for the lead. At least they kept the real sponsors in between. Overall, this game shows promise for NASCAR 08: Car of Tomorrow, which WILL be released on PS2, if EA doesn't screw it up worse than it already has.

The graphics suck really bad this year. Thunder 2004 looked a lot better. No Carl Edwards? Nascar needs to give their game rights to another game maker before EA runs it into the ground. Very disappointed. Buy 06 or later. The game literally looks like it belongs on the PS1.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, January 9, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NASCAR 2007 (Video Game)
This is a really cool game, it is realistic and you can pick your drivers, car, and which track you want to race on. At first my eight year old son thought it was too difficult because he couldn't get the hang of it right away. But he now really likes it.

Did not realize that when I purchased the game-it was for online use only. It wasn't until the kids couldn't get it to work that we found out. It should be in the description whether or not you have to be connected to the internet. Very disappointed in this purchase.
