5.0 out of 5 stars Dirt to Daytona Review November 21, 2002
By Gene
I've been playing video games all of my life, racing games the most. I must tell you that Dirt to Daytona is one of THE BEST racing games I have ever played. This game is a solid 10!! I give two thumbs up to Infogrames. Nascar Heat was a great game that needed just a little bit more to make it a ten. The guys at Infogrames made all the right corrections and have what I feel is a must have for any body who loves racing and racing games as much as I do. The game packs in so much information with the 4 different divisinos of NASCAR that I thought the speed of play would be lacking or that details would be left out; giving us a poorly developed game. I'm very happy to see that this did not happen and that game play, especially with the 43 car Winston Cup field, did not suffer one bit. I would recommend this game to anyone. Thanks Infogrames for taking the time to make such an awesome product! Great job!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Nascar Title Ever Period April 13, 2003
Now I'll admit I am only a casual Nascar fan but I've played a lot of Nascar racing games from both the EA series and the Heat series and Dirt to Daytona has set the standard for the future of racing games. It has 4 racing circuts built into one, a competive AI, and gives the player the ability to create his car and choose his or her sponsors. There are a lot of other great things about this title so I will explain them to you. The real great thing about this title is the awesome career mode. This game really focuses on how you get to Winston cup status instead of just placing you there. You start with little money to build your car while you race on dirt tracks in small towns in the south going through heats for small sums of money. As you earn respect, you will be presented with sponser choices to place on your car. The more sponsors you have, the more money you will make per race. As soon as you conquer the dirt track series you will move up through the Nascar ranks through the truck series and eventually to the Nascar Winston Cup series. I find this to be a great career mode because it actually gives you the feel you are a real race car driver trying to break into the big time unlike EA's Thunder series where they just place you in the Winston Cup series no questions asked.
Secondly, the chalenging aspects of the gameplay really keep this game fresh. The AI actually tries to keep you from winning and if you hit the wall, the aspects of your car get damaged unlike in other titles where you can smash into the wall and still have your car drive like new. If you hit the wall in this game, your car's performance will be damaged greatly.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but lost some of the enjoyment of heat 1 November 25, 2002
By A Customer
Nascar Heat 2 is a great game. Just having the 4 series alone is awsome but the game play is quite impressive with the full field of cars. I enjoy the first Heat game more just because it seemed more realistic but either one of these games out shines the annoyances of Thunder a game which lacks realism. Until EA can get their sports games back on track Ill stick with Infogrames.
The games misfortunes are with the full field of cars. Only 25 or so are real Winston racers. The rest are just fill-ins which is understandable since some Nascar teams have a licensing deal with EA probably. And like I said, the game just isnt as realistic or fun as the first game.
(why would Harvick be in the truck series? He ran two or three races this year. Theres quite a list of more impressive drivers who they could have put into the truck series.)

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FOR NASCAR ON THE PS2 January 1, 2003
This is a cool game. It is like no other game in its class. Its cool because it is like a 4 in 1 racing game. Because it has 4 types of racing-dirt, modifiers, truck, and nascar racing in one game. graphics and detail are good, and has realistic crashes. I rate this game really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money. February 6, 2004
Well im not a Nascar fan so much as terms of their games, However I will say this, All though my relatives love Nascar 2004, I picked this up for some fun, well it handles better, more real like, abit more fun for the game, Something it shouldve been in the real EA games. Coming from me that is how I like it, I love abit more feel into a game and customize or planning vs that of JUST playing. In stores the game is about 50$, here you get for 20$, its worth picking up thats all Ill say.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but... January 12, 2004
I'll begin by telling you that I like racing games, simulation games. That's why I bought my PS2. I currently have:
- Gran Turismo 3
- Formula one 2001 (Sony)
- F1 2002 (EA Sports)
- Nascar Dirt to Daytona.
I'm a big fan of F1 and CART. I never miss a F1 or a CART series grand prix and watch NASCAR when I can, from time to time.
Gran Turismo 3:
Excellent graphics and sound, excellent framerate, deep gameplay, lots of cars and tracks, wonderful replay mode!!, wonderful simulation but... stupid AI. It seems you are racing against wonderful cars driven by ghosts that dont see you in the track, cars that are racing a different race, they hit you, they aren't aware you are there racing too. I finally got bored, because I play alone. If you race against your friends that's other story.
Overall: Wonderful but very stupid opponent AI.
---
Formula one 2001:
Regular graphics, excellent framerate, regular sound, good opponent Artificial Intelligence. You feel you are really racing against people. Engaging. It feels like a real simulation. Good Physics, When you lose control of the car, it feels like the real thing. Not very deep, it doesn't have replay mode, and easy in the long term. Yes, now I can beat M. Schumacher in the profesional level with a Bennetton car!!!!!!
Overall: More than Good, but regular graphics and Easy in the long term.
---
F1 2002:
Very good graphics (not like GT3). I love the cockpit view, the sense of speed is very good too. Good framerate, sometimes regular. No replay mode. Regular sounds.
The bad side .... Some flaws (when playing with FIA rules you always get a time penalty for nothing!!, it's a very known flaw ). It feels like an arcade game, not a simulation, and bad AI.

Bought this for my husband (gift) and he was excited at first but then I only saw him play it a handful of times. Not as fun as the others he has for his PS2 .
