Dirt to Daytona Review,
By Gene (Saugus, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NASCAR Dirt to Daytona (Video Game)
I've been playing video games all of my life, racing games the most. I must tell you that Dirt to Daytona is one of THE BEST racing games I have ever played. This game is a solid 10!! I give two thumbs up to Infogrames. Nascar Heat was a great game that needed just a little bit more to make it a ten. The guys at Infogrames made all the right corrections and have what I feel is a must have for any body who loves racing and racing games as much as I do. The game packs in so much information with the 4 different divisinos of NASCAR that I thought the speed of play would be lacking or that details would be left out; giving us a poorly developed game. I'm very happy to see that this did not happen and that game play, especially with the 43 car Winston Cup field, did not suffer one bit. I would recommend this game to anyone. Thanks Infogrames for taking the time to make such an awesome product! Great job!

Best Nascar Title Ever Period,
By Baker Geist (US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NASCAR Dirt to Daytona (Video Game)
Now I'll admit I am only a casual Nascar fan but I've played a lot of Nascar racing games from both the EA series and the Heat series and Dirt to Daytona has set the standard for the future of racing games. It has 4 racing circuts built into one, a competive AI, and gives the player the ability to create his car and choose his or her sponsors. There are a lot of other great things about this title so I will explain them to you. The real great thing about this title is the awesome career mode. This game really focuses on how you get to Winston cup status instead of just placing you there. You start with little money to build your car while you race on dirt tracks in small towns in the south going through heats for small sums of money. As you earn respect, you will be presented with sponser choices to place on your car. The more sponsors you have, the more money you will make per race. As soon as you conquer the dirt track series you will move up through the Nascar ranks through the truck series and eventually to the Nascar Winston Cup series. I find this to be a great career mode because it actually gives you the feel you are a real race car driver trying to break into the big time unlike EA's Thunder series where they just place you in the Winston Cup series no questions asked. Secondly, the chalenging aspects of the gameplay really keep this game fresh. The AI actually tries to keep you from winning and if you hit the wall, the aspects of your car get damaged unlike in other titles where you can smash into the wall and still have your car drive like new. If you hit the wall in this game, your car's performance will be damaged greatly. Also, afer every race depending on the amount of damage your car went through money will be taken from your total winnings in order to repair the damages to your car. This really forces you to drive in a Nascar like fashion because if you don't you will pay for it later. This game also has many great drivers from the truck and Winston Cup circuts but not all of them to to certain licensing agreements to EA which accounts for me giving it 4 stars. The ones in the lower circuts are made up because they are just unknown locals trying to make it in the Nascar circut. In conclusion, this title is the best racing game ever period. Any company can make a racing game and just put you in the Winston circut but it takes a great game to capture the whole essense of Nascar from the small unknown tracks to Daytona this game in first place leaving competitors... IN THE DUST.

good but lost some of the enjoyment of heat 1,
By A Customer
This review is from: NASCAR Dirt to Daytona (Video Game)
Nascar Heat 2 is a great game. Just having the 4 series alone is awsome but the game play is quite impressive with the full field of cars. I enjoy the first Heat game more just because it seemed more realistic but either one of these games out shines the annoyances of Thunder a game which lacks realism. Until EA can get their sports games back on track Ill stick with Infogrames. The games misfortunes are with the full field of cars. Only 25 or so are real Winston racers. The rest are just fill-ins which is understandable since some Nascar teams have a licensing deal with EA probably. And like I said, the game just isnt as realistic or fun as the first game. (why would Harvick be in the truck series? He ran two or three races this year. Theres quite a list of more impressive drivers who they could have put into the truck series.)

This is a cool game. It is like no other game in its class. Its cool because it is like a 4 in 1 racing game. Because it has 4 types of racing-dirt, modifiers, truck, and nascar racing in one game. graphics and detail are good, and has realistic crashes. I rate this game really good.

Well im not a Nascar fan so much as terms of their games, However I will say this, All though my relatives love Nascar 2004, I picked this up for some fun, well it handles better, more real like, abit more fun for the game, Something it shouldve been in the real EA games. Coming from me that is how I like it, I love abit more feel into a game and customize or planning vs that of JUST playing. In stores the game is about 50$, here you get for 20$, its worth picking up thats all Ill say.

Great but...,
This review is from: NASCAR Dirt to Daytona (Video Game)
I'll begin by telling you that I like racing games, simulation games. That's why I bought my PS2. I currently have:- Gran Turismo 3 I'm a big fan of F1 and CART. I never miss a F1 or a CART series grand prix and watch NASCAR when I can, from time to time. Gran Turismo 3: Excellent graphics and sound, excellent framerate, deep gameplay, lots of cars and tracks, wonderful replay mode!!, wonderful simulation but... stupid AI. It seems you are racing against wonderful cars driven by ghosts that dont see you in the track, cars that are racing a different race, they hit you, they aren't aware you are there racing too. I finally got bored, because I play alone. If you race against your friends that's other story. --- Formula one 2001: Regular graphics, excellent framerate, regular sound, good opponent Artificial Intelligence. You feel you are really racing against people. Engaging. It feels like a real simulation. Good Physics, When you lose control of the car, it feels like the real thing. Not very deep, it doesn't have replay mode, and easy in the long term. Yes, now I can beat M. Schumacher in the profesional level with a Bennetton car!!!!!! --- F1 2002: Very good graphics (not like GT3). I love the cockpit view, the sense of speed is very good too. Good framerate, sometimes regular. No replay mode. Regular sounds. Overall: Dissapointing. It needs better sound, better physics and better AI, even though the graphics are good. --- Nascar Dirt to Daytona: Decent (good) graphics, great sound, lots of tracks, excellent physics, replay mode from several angles!!!!, really engaging and... YOU FEEL YOU ARE RACING AGAINST REAL DRIVERS!!!!!!!!. Very good AI. The programmers did a wonderful job. The drivers see you, react, brake and move, you are really in a race, that is so cool. Cars move in a real credible way. You have crashes, very good crashes!!!! Your car get damage, so you must drive carefully if you want to win and selected the "full damage" option. If the car is damaged you see it's damage and feeeel its damage. Are you a good driver? Put it at 105% in the difficulty setting and try to win. I might say: try to not be the last in the pack. This game has levels for everyone, that's something I like, because I know that no matter how much I improve my skills in the game I will always have a level of diffficulty (there are 10 or 11 levels) that will make me race against very good drivers. Challenges, career mode, deep, deeep, deeep gameplay. For me is the best game of the racing titles I have. You have many tracks, many drivers to choose from and you can race with trucks, modified cars, cup cars and dirt cars. Some races are in the day and some in the night. The bad side: sometimes the framerate is bad and graphics could be better. I know it's difficult to improve both things at the same time, but, if that guys could do that, the game would be the best racing simulation experience I know for the PS2. That's why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. Don't take me wrong. You feel the speed and graphics are good, but sometimes the game feels little slow, and in replay mode sometimes it feels slow. I understand. There are 43 cars in the track, but they should try to improve framerate. Overall: Very good invest. It must be in the collection of any real racing fan, specially if you like NASCAR. It's difficult to get bored with this simulation.

Awesome Career Mode,
By J.A.D. (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NASCAR Dirt to Daytona (Video Game)
I am a huge racing game fan and this one deserves praise. Infogrames did a great job with developing this game. I don't think that it has lost anything from previous games. In fact I think they have improved in areas. I think that this game is exciting and has done a good job of simulating how a driver would start with little money and knowledge of car setups.Dirt to Daytona has the ability to change the car setups and it actually works unlike previous games! I am glad to see that Infogrames fixed the problem that they had with the career mode in their World of Outlaws game. That was a huge disappointment that I could not get it to work. I recommend this game to anyone that truly likes racing games. It is probably not the best game for you if you are looking for arcade style racing, but it is a well thought out and fun simulation game.
