Book Description

Motor Sport November 3, 1999
Spanning More than 50 Years, from 1948, when NASCAR was incorporated, to today, NASCAR Greatest Races is an in-depth look at NASCAR's most thrilling races of the past half-century. You can relive such memorable racing moments as Cale Yarborough's last-lap spin across the finish line of the 1976 Daytona 500; Dale Earnhardt's emotional 1998 Daytona 500 victory; and the 1992 Hooters 500 in Atlanta, where legend Richard Petty ran his last NASCAR Winston Cup Series race while the young upstart Jeff Gordon ran his first. Featuring the up 25 races in NASCAR history, NASCAR Greatest Races compiles the best races of all time -- according to the drivers, crew chiefs, and their pit crews, the car owners, the judges, and, of course, the fans.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Calling all race fans--NASCAR Greatest Races is just that, featuring 25 thrilling races (and six honorable mentions) selected by fans, sportswriters, and top drivers. The races are arranged in groups (Firsts & Milestones, Classic Duels, Incredible Comebacks, Fabulous Finishes, Amazing Aftermaths, and Finally!), from the 1948 Rayson Memorial, which Red Byron won in a 1939 Ford Coupe ("the race that started it all") to the 1999 Daytona 500, when Jeff Gordon held Dale Earnhardt off for the final 10 laps to win his second Daytona.

In between you'll find other amazing races, such as the 76 Daytona, where Richard Petty and David Pearson crashed just shy of the finish line and Pearson got his crumpled Mercury moving to take the checkered flag--or the 1979 Daytona, where the Allison brothers traded blows with an angry Cale Yarborough after Richard Petty won the race. Full of photographs and drivers' memories, NASCAR Greatest Races is a must for all race fans. --M. Stein

Review

"I'll always rember watching Dale Earnhardt finally win the Daytona 500 and seeing the crews congradulate him on the way to victory lane! It's races like that that keep us watching NASCAR because you never know when another greatest race will happen." -- NASCAR Fan Scott Bradley, Ft.Payne,Alamba

"Without great races, there would be no great drivers." -- Darrell Waltrip

This review is from: NASCAR Greatest Races: The 25 Most Thrilling Races in NASCAR History (Motor Sport) (Hardcover)
This is a good book that shares a lot of interesting quotes, photos and summary information about each of the 25 races. It is well written and brought back some memories of races I also thought were great. Really the only thing I did not like about the book is that they were grouped in to 4 catagories and not ranked like a "top ten list". I actually did not realize they were numbered until I got to about the 3rd or 4th race. Other than that, it is a good book and a quick read. Great for new/fairly new fans to the sport.
