4.0 out of 5 stars Misunderstood...
This game has an undeserved bad reputation on the web. Simply, it shouldn't be considered a simulation. The play is more arcade-style. The developer's have obviously spent more focus on 'feel & technique' than 'deep' franchise options. This core game here is very good, however lacking a campaign or franchise mode really hurts the game. Additionally the AI gets predictable over time and you start blowing out the computer.

Not a bad game, but not great either.

This game has an undeserved bad reputation on the web. Simply, it shouldn't be considered a simulation. The play is more arcade-style. The developer's have obviously spent more focus on 'feel & technique' than 'deep' franchise options. But that doesn't mean weak replay value- every week you get to download roster updates and challenges. This means that while watching ESPN, if you see a sick NBA play... you might get a chance to recreate the moment yourself through NBA 08. Plus Sony has LeaderBoards for these challenges (and online play, of course). When I bought this game there were 3 of us here. Within 2 hours of purchase we were all yelling at my set and having a great time. Later, motivated, we went out and played some ball of our own. This is THAT type of game. So my final recommendation would be: If you have 1080p/HDMI/HDCP (the graphics amaze),have PS3 online, and commonly play with friends/family, yes get it. Otherwise, I'd hesitate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must buy, March 7, 2008

This is simply the best basketball sim out there. The graphics are insane, the sixaxis ball control is unimaginable, the game of the week brings you back again and again. Simply playing a game with a friend is in one word FUN. A must buy for any PS3 owner.

This game, MLB the show, and probably Hot shots golf and definately best in their class... Enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'll stick with NCAA Baketball, February 23, 2010

I bought this game used for under ten dollars so I wasn't expecting a great game but geez, no franchise mode, only one camera angle, and you can only create one player. I played it for a little while mainly because I could trade anybody from one team to another so I could have my own personal team (steve nash pg, ray allen sg, rashand lewis sf, kevin garnett pf, and marcus camby c) and I played the 3 point shootout (which was frustrating, here and there). But that wasn't enough to make me want to play this game on the regular. I haven't played it in months and I don't plan on playing it again. But, as always, you're your own person so just because I don't like it doesn't mean you won't like it either. Rent it and if you like it pick it up or spend some more money and get the newest version that's out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best BBall game I've played on 360 or PS3, February 13, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

I'm giving this such high ratings because this game cost me less than a cup of coffee to purchase. But aside from the pricepoint it is seriously the most fun I've had with a basketball game since the one I've played on the Dreamcast years ago. It's definitely arcadey so one player on your team can win it for you, but that's the type of game I want. If you want a simulation, then please skip. The graphics are really good even by today's standards. I don't know about any modes since I only play quick match.

This is the best NBA game on the PS3. I have played LIVE 08, 2K8, & NBA 08. This game has the best game play and graphics of the three. Features a deep franchise mode and an option to replay the best games of the current basketball season. Online is solid with very little lag. My only complaint is that there is some clipping when characters collide. Also there appears to be a lot of turnovers during fast break situations. All things a side, this is still a fun NBA game.
