5.0 out of 5 stars
Wii's first good basketball game,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
I am suprised that nobody(not even ign)has reviewed this game.it has gotten barely any press and is much better than nba live 09. This is a sim game not arcade. You will not be scoring 150 points a game. The gameplay is superb with no framerate issues at all. The graphics are okay. Some players look great while other players are unrecognizable. Shooting with the wii remote is hard but you will get use to it. To actually shoot and not do a pump fake you must pull the wii remote way back and after you see your player jump to shoot you can follow through. You must do this deliberately and not too fast. Taking a charge where you have to point the wii remote and nunchuck down is also incredibly hard and is very unresponsive. If you don't like the motion controls just use the classic controller. This game has all the modes in the xbox and ps3 versions and nba today really works. The commentary is also the best i have heard in a sports game. The commentators will actually talk about real games and events.This game has great graphics for a wii sports game and is quite fun. if you want a basketball game for the wii buy this game. Nba live 09 is trash compared to this.
Gameplay-Players have very fluid movement(no sliding feet). Isomotion is in this game. Basic dunking is easy but reverse dunking is nearly impossible with the motion controls. There is no point and pass like Nba Live 09 but there is icon passing.The post offense is much improved over last year's game. Players will not always make post shots. The defense is great, my only complaint being the difficulty of taking a charge. You press z to defend a player and follow the arrow that indicate what direction your player will take. Blocking and rebounding can be done by swinging the wii remote up. Open layups and easy shots are rarely missed. The playcalling and dual player control are in this game, and they both work fine. if you dislike the gameplay you can adjust it to your liking with all the game sliders this game provides. 8.0 Graphics-They are better than the ps2 version's graphics and some of the player models(like Steve Nash)look almost like their HD counterparts while others mostly the black players look very choppy sloppy. There is field of depth in some areas. Movement is quite fluid. No framerate issues.This is not a ps2 port. It is a graphically challenged version of its hd counterparts. 8.0 Commentary and Audio- the commentary is definitely the best for any sports game I have played. If you are playing a Nba Today game the commentators will talk about real life games and stats.The commentary never gets stale for me. It seems like they are always talking about something new. The music selection is also good with many popular hip hop songs. 9.5 Presentation-I love the 2k menus and especially the ticker at the bottom of the screen showing current scores. Living Rosters works great. The rosters are always up to date and player ratings go up or down depending on how they play in real life. The overlays are also a nice touch.9.5 Lasting Appeal-This game is overloaded with modes: Blacktop mode, practice mode, season mode, association, my player, team up, are all included. The my player mode will last you a very long time if you are willing to work through all the glitches. The association mode is awesome and is probably the best mode of all sports video games. 9.5 Overall- 8.5 Buy it now if you want a good sim basketball game.

I got this game about a week ago and i absolutely love it!!!!! I am so glad there is actually a good basketball game for wii. There are tons of features and tons of game modes. You will NOT get bored with this game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty good for it to be a wii game. There are a few glitches. The shooting and pump fake get mixed up a lot. I have gotten over that and it isnt as much of a problem now. The iso-motion dribbling is nice and can really break the defenders ankles. Overall very good. NBA Today: It really works! The players progress and trades are automatic. Modes: There are many different play modes. My favorite is definately the my player mode. You start in the summer league at about a fourty overall, then try to get invited to training camp. If you dont get invited you get sent to the D-League. I made a point guard and was sent to the d-league for 8 games before making it onto the thunder. As you go through your career you obtain skill points which you use to improve your attributes. This will take a long time but it is a ton of fun. Graphics and Commentary: The graphics are pretty good for a wii game the side of the court you are on is perfect, but the other side is kinda broken up. On the other hand, most players are well done and easily recognizable. The commentary is amazing. They actually arent boring. They do mess a few things up though. Once i got the ball at the 3 point line with a second to go in the shot clock and they said it was a bad shot. Mainly it is very good. Overall: This is an amazing game. Buy it right away.

I'll admit it, if basketball is on, you probably won't see me watching it. But that makes my enjoyment of this game all the more impressive I think.
I got roped into playing this at a friend's house after dinner and, after discovering how much I loved it, I ordered my own on Amazon. Go figure. If I like it that much and you love the hoops...I think you'll be even more impressed. NBA Today feature: Creates realism...all the excitement that is actually going on in the NBA (the real NBA) is streamed into the game during commentary, news, and stats. The "living rosters" intersect the real NBA with your game. Trades are automatic, you'll see injuries etc with the interactive menus. It works. Graphics: I consider them excellent for a Wii game and quite realistic. Again, that's for a Wii game...don't expect tv realism, but it's not an expressionless Mii or a "Speed Racer" type animation either. You'll even get accurate facial expressions. You will get to create your own player, much like you would in the Sims game, and guide every career decision he makes. You create him physically and mentally via his decisions. You will get experience and skill points for his successes along the way which build him to become the ultimate player. Wanna live vicariously? You can here. Play your cards right in your player's training and you may wind up packing for the NBA. You could also wind up in a D-league team til you get your act together. Sound: Sounds like an NBA game. Provides faced paced action even in sound. Motion Control: Smooth and fluid. I think anything I got tripped up on was user error as, playing in a group, true basketball fans were all out awesome to watch on this game when my friends did it and did it well. For me, there was some learning to do. I experienced no lag. The online experience was great, although I have only done that a couple of times. This allows you to play the game with a friend or spouse or family member right next to you OR your relative in another town. 1-4 players can play versus and coop or 2-10 versus and coop online with 5 man rosters on each side. Conclusion: Being able to take your own player from creation to training to NBA and play online means the game can change every day for you which keeps your interest fresh and the streaming realistic commentary not only better ensures this, but adds even more realism to this fast paced and fun basketball game on the Wii. I can't imagine anyone not finding it fun...especially a basketball fan. 2115|RMZVZGCF3HZE9;2115|R14R9NRZAV0V9H;2115|RSJU3OJQIL87Q;
