3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda of hard to play on Wii
If you are used to playing basketball on Wii Sports Resort, the movements and controller functions are completely different on 2K10. Something as simple as dunking the ball in 2k10 is complicated.

On a positive note, I love the "NBA Today" feature. It gives the player a chance to play as the teams currently in action that night.

I'm neutral on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wii's first good basketball game, November 17, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
I am suprised that nobody(not even ign)has reviewed this game.it has gotten barely any press and is much better than nba live 09. This is a sim game not arcade. You will not be scoring 150 points a game. The gameplay is superb with no framerate issues at all. The graphics are okay. Some players look great while other players are unrecognizable. Shooting with the wii remote is hard but you will get use to it. To actually shoot and not do a pump fake you must pull the wii remote way back and after you see your player jump to shoot you can follow through. You must do this deliberately and not too fast. Taking a charge where you have to point the wii remote and nunchuck down is also incredibly hard and is very unresponsive. If you don't like the motion controls just use the classic controller. This game has all the modes in the xbox and ps3 versions and nba today really works. The commentary is also the best i have heard in a sports game. The commentators will actually talk about real games and events. This game has great graphics for a wii sports game and is quite fun. if you want a basketball game for the wii buy this game. Nba live 09 is trash compared to this.

Gameplay-Players have very fluid movement(no sliding feet). Isomotion is in this game. Basic dunking is easy but reverse dunking is nearly impossible with the motion controls. There is no point and pass like Nba Live 09 but there is icon passing. The post offense is much improved over last year's game. Players will not always make post shots. The defense is great, my only complaint being the difficulty of taking a charge. You press z to defend a player and follow the arrow that indicate what direction your player will take. Blocking and rebounding can be done by swinging the wii remote up. Open layups and easy shots are rarely missed. The playcalling and dual player control are in this game, and they both work fine. if you dislike the gameplay you can adjust it to your liking with all the game sliders this game provides. 8.0

Graphics-They are better than the ps2 version's graphics and some of the player models(like Steve Nash)look almost like their HD counterparts while others mostly the black players look very choppy sloppy. There is field of depth in some areas. Movement is quite fluid. No framerate issues. This is not a ps2 port. It is a graphically challenged version of its hd counterparts. 8.0

Commentary and Audio- the commentary is definitely the best for any sports game I have played. If you are playing a Nba Today game the commentators will talk about real life games and stats. The commentary never gets stale for me. It seems like they are always talking about something new. The music selection is also good with many popular hip hop songs. 9.5

Presentation-I love the 2k menus and especially the ticker at the bottom of the screen showing current scores. Living Rosters works great. The rosters are always up to date and player ratings go up or down depending on how they play in real life. The overlays are also a nice touch.9.5

Lasting Appeal-This game is overloaded with modes: Blacktop mode, practice mode, season mode, association, my player, team up, are all included. The my player mode will last you a very long time if you are willing to work through all the glitches. The association mode is awesome and is probably the best mode of all sports video games. 9.5

Overall- 8.5 Buy it now if you want a good sim basketball game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sports Game for Wii, November 21, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

I got this game about a week ago and i absolutely love it!!!!! I am so glad there is actually a good basketball game for wii. There are tons of features and tons of game modes. You will NOT get bored with this game.

Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty good for it to be a wii game. There are a few glitches. The shooting and pump fake get mixed up a lot. I have gotten over that and it isnt as much of a problem now. The iso-motion dribbling is nice and can really break the defenders ankles. Overall very good.

NBA Today: It really works! The players progress and trades are automatic.

Modes: There are many different play modes. My favorite is definately the my player mode. You start in the summer league at about a fourty overall, then try to get invited to training camp. If you dont get invited you get sent to the D-League. I made a point guard and was sent to the d-league for 8 games before making it onto the thunder. As you go through your career you obtain skill points which you use to improve your attributes. This will take a long time but it is a ton of fun.

Graphics and Commentary: The graphics are pretty good for a wii game the side of the court you are on is perfect, but the other side is kinda broken up. On the other hand, most players are well done and easily recognizable. The commentary is amazing. They actually arent boring. They do mess a few things up though. Once i got the ball at the 3 point line with a second to go in the shot clock and they said it was a bad shot. Mainly it is very good.

Overall: This is an amazing game. Buy it right away.

I'll admit it, if basketball is on, you probably won't see me watching it. But that makes my enjoyment of this game all the more impressive I think.

I got roped into playing this at a friend's house after dinner and, after discovering how much I loved it, I ordered my own on Amazon. Go figure. If I like it that much and you love the hoops...I think you'll be even more impressed.

NBA Today feature: Creates realism...all the excitement that is actually going on in the NBA (the real NBA) is streamed into the game during commentary, news, and stats. The "living rosters" intersect the real NBA with your game. Trades are automatic, you'll see injuries etc with the interactive menus. It works.

Graphics: I consider them excellent for a Wii game and quite realistic. Again, that's for a Wii game...don't expect tv realism, but it's not an expressionless Mii or a "Speed Racer" type animation either. You'll even get accurate facial expressions.

You will get to create your own player, much like you would in the Sims game, and guide every career decision he makes. You create him physically and mentally via his decisions. You will get experience and skill points for his successes along the way which build him to become the ultimate player. Wanna live vicariously? You can here. Play your cards right in your player's training and you may wind up packing for the NBA. You could also wind up in a D-league team til you get your act together.

Sound: Sounds like an NBA game. Provides faced paced action even in sound.

Motion Control: Smooth and fluid. I think anything I got tripped up on was user error as, playing in a group, true basketball fans were all out awesome to watch on this game when my friends did it and did it well. For me, there was some learning to do. I experienced no lag.

The online experience was great, although I have only done that a couple of times. This allows you to play the game with a friend or spouse or family member right next to you OR your relative in another town.

1-4 players can play versus and coop or 2-10 versus and coop online with 5 man rosters on each side.

Conclusion: Being able to take your own player from creation to training to NBA and play online means the game can change every day for you which keeps your interest fresh and the streaming realistic commentary not only better ensures this, but adds even more realism to this fast paced and fun basketball game on the Wii. I can't imagine anyone not finding it fun...especially a basketball fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing game with only some minor flaws (so far), January 28, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
When I saw that NBA 2k10 was coming to the Wii, I was very skeptical, mainly because ports of other games to the Wii have been lacking in options. I watched a few videos of the game online, and got sucked in to buying. Now that I have though, I can see my concerns were completely unjustified.

First of all, you are not getting a PS2 port here. This game appears to have been modified from the PS3/Xbox 360 versions with poorer graphics and motion controls. Everything you find in the other versions is here. I can play a game of basketball and feel like it's a fairly realistic representation of an actual game, with the better scorers leading the way, especially if they are matched up against inferior defenders. I have turned the difficulty level up one notch, but other than that have not messed with the sliders. The game is so fun, that I haven't even started in on a Franchise yet (called The Association) because I'm still enjoying the single games so much.

In addition the normal game of basketball it offers a feature call My Player, where you get to create a basketball player and advance through various stages of basketballhood (not a real word) to eventually make it to the NBA. This is the coolest feature I've ever seen in a basketball game. I created a Small Forward and have played about half a season in the D-League so far. I find that I play the game with my character the exact same way I play basketball in real life. I'll slack off my match-up and try to anticipate a pass for a steal, I'll grab a lot of rebounds because I like to crash the boards, and on offense I'll usually stand around the 3 point line waiting for a pass, at which point I'll drive and dish or drive and usually miss a layup (hey, my guy needs some work okay?) One annoying thing about this mode though, is after every game in the D-League, no matter how well I play, I'll be told that I've been cut from my team, but the same team wants to offer me a place on their roster. It's not that terrible, but it is annoying to come off a game where I shut someone down, score some points and play an integral part in a close victory, only to be told I've been cut for the 100th time. I assume when I have a better skillset, this will stop happening...

I saw a complaint about how hard the defense is. It definitely can be. You have to watch your matchups and put better defenders on better offensive players. I never call plays on offense or defense, I just control who can and cannot double team and will manage my subs based on matchups. It's insanely fun.

Graphics are fine for me. The players look much like their real-life counterparts if they had been slightly burned in a fire, and the crowd behind the first row is crazily pixelated, but you won't even notice because the game is that good. The motion controls are hard at first, but the thing to realize about them is they require some anticipation on your part. If you're streaking down the court for a fast break jam and wait until you're next to the hoop to flick the remote up, you're going to come to a stop and possibly pump fake. You have to flick it up around the free throw line to begin the animation. Once you get used to them though, there is no other way to play in my opinion.

Okay, sorry for the long review. Let me end it by saying: if you have ever liked NBA 2k games at all, and only own a Wii, I can't stress enough how quickly you should pick this up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the game hate the bugs, December 1, 2009

This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
ok so bought nba 2k10 for the Wii and only really just played it over the turkey day weekend. It definitely has a learning curve to it to get it right. however once you do it is pretty enjoyable as a sim as you can get. bad points for this are, there are definately bugs in the game

the lettering is way too small to play the association mode unless you have a honking big tv or sitting right up close

My player mode has a really annoying bug that once you hook up with a team after you finish each game it then says that you need to make a decision about changing teams or staying with the one you are with. (Note this is also on 360 and ps3 from forum posts)

When you check into the game 2k10 then shows up the play positions for each team. except if you are playing PG then it covers up where you are at that moment so you can't tell where you are, or the player you are guarding.

Finally I just really wished the manual was more expansive up front to tell me what each of the things are and how I am graded. have to admit first time I played my player I played like I was in an arcade type bball. don't you will get penalized for that. remember all the talk of back door cuts and player positioning and hogging the ball will allow you to be successful

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but game has bugs, June 19, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
I bought this game based on the positive reviews on Amazon. I fully expected a learning curve with the Wii controls. Initially , it was extremely frustrating but you do get used to it and are able to consistently shoot the ball instead of pump fakes. Do NOT buy this game if you are looking at a game that you can simply jump in and play. It will take you hours (or days for me) of playing before you can consistently shoot the ball the way you want to. This ranges from jumpshots, layups, to dunks.

However, the 2 most detrimental issues with this game that results in my 2 star rating are:
- Frame rate/lag between the Wii controller and the game. Defense is almost impossible due to this lag. You have to anticipate the move and flick the controller at least 1 second before the action on the screen. You can compensate on offense and foul shooting. However, it makes defense almost impossible.

- Buggy gameplay on the "MyPlayer" mode. After playing two different characters, the game crashes each time you finish the season. After checking 2K's website & forums, it looks like this is a fairly common issue. The fact that a console game can be this buggy upon release is inexcusable.

Bottom line: It's a fun game for a different experience for contollers. But you will not be able to fully enjoy all of the game's features due to glitches in programming.

Worth buying if it's in the clearance bin for the novelty but not the full price that 2K is asking for this almost finished product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ouch!, May 7, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
I put in this game, expecting a fairly decent NBA experience. I can't load a game other than by pushing buttons because the menus are tinier than tiny. I had the same problem with the 2010 baseball franchise as well, but worked my way around that for awhile. But when I am sitting 10 feet from my TV, and can NOT read anything on screen, I couldn't get through more than a quarter. I also tried playing with the Wiimote and Nunchuck, but no luck there, I couldn't pass the ball or shoot. If anyone can help me with these situations, I would love to change my opinion on this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Game, March 15, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
Pretty good game. its not the best graphics at all for the game. I mean some of the players look just like they are in real life (which may not be good sometimes) and other players look like crap. The wii remote and nunchuck is way to hard to master so I play with the classic contoller which helps extremely. I love the player progression and trades and roster updates that are automaticly done. The association mode is pretty cool because they keep up with stats that are on going such as: On the headlines they will say Dwayne Wade has scored his 10,000th point in a win against the Bodcats. Also its cool you can change the names of the prospects when scouting. Also its good and bad when you can change a players role, contract, attributes, and everything else about them in the Association. Lets say you want to sign A.I. you give him what he wants to sign. Once he agrees you can go in and change his contract all around. Or if i want to be cheap I can give Hassem Thabet a pay reduction because I don"t want him to be paid 3 million a year so I'll give him about 450K.

DEFENSE SUCKS!!!
There is no way you can stop the pick and roll. And the guards make impossible shots. You try to use turbo to keep up with the fast guards like Devin Harris but then he stops and you keep going so he hits a 15 footer. Its very rare to block a shot so don't count on Dwight Howard to block anyone's shot at the end of the game. You also cannot stop the back door cut even with help defense (IF YOU ARE PLAYINGA ATLANTA, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP JOSH SMITH ON THE BACK DOOR CUT)

The upside is the cpu can't stop your pick and roll either and if you can drive someone is going to cut (which is a great thing...FINALLY A LITTLE OFF THE BALL MOVEMENT BY THE CPU).The dunks are amazing but can be kind of repetitive and the big centers that are 7 feet and up dunks look to fake unless you dunk over someone or its a reverse dunk.

But its pretty good game for the Wii. We have to remember its a Wii. Wii won't look like a PS3 or 360 for another good 3 years. So we have to deal with it.

My Player Mode
Can we say the best mode in any basketball games. I love this mode, its the only reason I play this game so much. There are some glitches. Like I'm the backup point guard for the Nuggets. I have a lock on the 6th man of the year award and we have the best record in the league. The last 15 games they decided to start me before the playoffs, well that threw me out of the 6th man of the year race so there goes some skill points.

To get real good fast, work on your shooting first mainly medium, inside, close, then 3pt in that order because for the mostly part when you are a guard you are going to miss almost every jumper you take at first unless you are wide open. Then work on your vertical. Get the vertical to like 75 and then you can dunk. To get your overall up work on the awareness and it will boost the rating. If you are a guard after you work on that, get your ball handling up because the games gets harder to dribble aroung people after awhile.

Another thing thats really cool is that if you are good your team while make room for you. The Nuggets have 4 point guards including me, so I playes really well and they traded Ty Lawson so that I can become the backup (How cool is that). If you have your wii hooked up to the internet, you will see the updated rosters for the teams but the cpu can make trades so when you play a team or on a team dont be surprised when you see a player that is not really on that team or your former teammate is not playing against you.

My player the Bad
The bad thing about my player mode is that you cannot pick your team unless you get invited to the training camp. Then you will get cut and another team will pick you up and put you in the D-league without you even knowing it. You have no clue who you are playing for until you get called up. Then after for 10 days you can get sent back down or stay. Problem is if you want to be with another team there is no option for that (Or i just can't find it).

Overall
It is a great game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good And Very Different, January 10, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
This game is very differnet from other NBA games. What makes it different is the nuances that are brought into play when using the motion controls. It takes some time and effert to master the combination of button mashing and motion controls. But if you get "all" of them under your belt this game makes you feal really in control of what your team is doing on the screen. If you absolutely don't have the patience or will to use the Wii remote and nunchuck you can use the classic controller.

I think you actually "need" to use the practice mode in this game. The scrimmages, post-up practice, freethrow practice etc. help to master the moves you need to play the game smoothly.

The graphics are pretty good, though not great (no high-def on the Wii). The look and "feal" of the teams and players is right.

This game also rewards those that have a good understanding of the game basketball without punishing (i think) those that don't.
