5.0 out of 5 stars The best NBA experience on the PS2
This is definitely the best NBA experience you can receive from your old ps2. The graphics are top notch for the system and even not as popular players look recognizable. The gameplay can vary based on how you adjust your sliders and can be adjusted to anyone's preference to how often certain shots go in and how good your players are and so forth. I haven't been...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I'd hoped for
I've been playing EA's NBA 2005 and 2006 for a few years now on my PS2. I really wanted updated rosters, and EA's NBA 2009, the last PS2 version got poor reviews, so I gave this a shot. Some of the controls and game play differs, but not significantly enough where I thought the adjustments were difficult. I have now had the game for about 15 days, and have played about 12...

I haven't been keeping up deeply with the 2k games over the years but this one definitely hits all the levels of a great basketball game. It's also more deep than NBA Live because you can do certain practices to develop a player in a variety of ways in association mode. My only complaint is that in the ps2 version, I have failed to find a way to change a players designated position. There is a player that nowadays plays more sg than sf and I can't change that. Also, there isn't a way (that I know of) to change someone's jersey number outside of association or season mode. But these can be overlooked being that they are not the forefront of what makes this game fun to play. The controls in the game and animations are fluent and smooth and are not faulty in the sense to where that if you mess up, you'll know it was all you. And if you still don't like how they work, it all can be adjusted like I mentioned earlier. All in all, if your into the next gen. games with a ps3 or 360 and you don't like what the ps2 does, then you might be bothered by what this game has to offer. But if you still have the old ps2 around and haven't been able to move on yet and want the best NBA experience, this game is definitely for you.

This is another fine entry from 2K SPORTS. The graphics are the best you can get on the underrated PS2. The gameplay is smooth and realistic. A great basketball game for any NBA fan.

I have now had the game for about 15 days, and have played about 12 games.

Unfortunately there are other things that I find frustrating and/or disappointing.
1. Twice the game has locked-up during the first quarter. (I was in the lead both times, too.) NBA 2006 would occasionally lock-up while loading a game, while NBA 2005 never did.
2. Navigation of menus was extremely difficult at first. I couldn't figure out how to play the Association mode (Dynasty mode in EA's NBA series, I believe). The documentation included are light at best. I ended up searching the Internet to figure it out. Now that I have it figured out, there are still a few menu design elements that could be better, such as the number of clicks required for a substitute.
3. There are a few noticeable player pronunciation issues. What gets me the most is sometimes it's correct, while others it isn't. For example, 1/3 the time we hear (Nicolas) Batum, and the other 2/3 we get Atom. I assume there may have been a typo, where the leading "B" was dropped (_atum). I noticed this on another player where part of the time we got his name and the other we got his number. NBA 2006 had 1 error I picked up where Marv Albert calls Trevor Ariza "A-riz-a" (short i instead of long e, "A-reez-a").
4. One last issue, while you will get tired of the announcers on an game, the variety of dialog and accuracy is not as good as NBA 2006. The leading scoring on the team behind at half-time could be shooting 80% - 90%, but since the team is losing he gets a bad rap. Likewise, NBA 2006 usually had a story or two for the top players on each team, while NBA 2K10 doesn't appear to have any.

Bottom line, if you're looking for an updated roster on the PS2, buy it. If you're looking for an improved interface and interaction over NBA 2005 and 2006, I wouldn't waste your money -- instead, save up and get a new game console.

Update March 2011: I've now completed my 2nd 29-game season and playoffs. I have moved the settings up to All-Star level for season 2 -- 1 from the highest -- and I never lost a game. I am playing the Trail Blazers and have made a few trades based on offers from other teams. I'm enjoying it enough, where I'll try the highest level for season 3 and see how it goes.

I figured out some of the names pronunciation issues are based on having the players name, the players nickname, and their number. When there's no nickname, they have re-recorded the player name, and sometimes it's incorrect. The fictional players drafted have last names of existing players, so instead of always getting just a number, sometimes you will actually get their name called.

While some of the season stats are better than EA, the year-to-year season tracking is non-existent.

I still have the same overall impression, while fun and a nice change from EA 2005 & 2006, the overall game still has plenty of opportunity to improve.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Poor graphic quality., June 14, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K10 (Video Game)
I bought this game for my PS2. This game is good but the graphic quality is poor. I own another NBA 2K games and all of them have poor graphic quality. I have the 2003 NBA game and it is much better game graphics are really good. I will recomend for any body who likes NBA games but not for a person who want to see good graphic imagens.
