5.0 out of 5 stars An Evolution of something that was already great, October 6, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K11 (Video Game)
I have been a 2k player for many years, I first started playing since 2K5 which was a great game as well. The last two years of NBA 2K have not been anything special, 2K10 felt like a minor leap over 2K9. However that is not the case this year, this game feels like a MAJOR leap over the previous games in the series, which I think most people didn't even think was possible.

Graphics: Awesome, don't look at the gameplay videos, that tells a completely different story. When you actually play this game and look at it, the motions are amazing, particularly how the great the equipment on the players move when the characters run down the court. The facial expressions are also amazing, and give you an amazing feeling during highlights. Also the skin tones and the Tattoos all look good, and are placed in the right spot. The only knock on the graphics that I can say is how some of the characters have an unnatural look to them (Jermaine Oneal, Larry Bird, and even Kobe to some extents look weird). The UI and the menu system is very nice though, something 2K games have always been good at. The courts are also done in amazing detail and look good down to the last piece of hardwood floor. There is so much more to be said about the graphics, but its hard to sum it all up, the graphics all around are good I would rate them an 8 out of 10 definitely the best looking in the series.

Sound: The sound is solid, the court sounds sound legit, the way the shoes sound during a quick stop and the way the ball sounds as your are dribbling and how it sounds when it goes in the net is perfect. The soundtrack for this game is very good, its definitely improving over the previous years versions and the best so far. You got Snoop, Drake, Big Boi, Cassidy, Kid Cudi, and even Ron Artest (lol). The sound is great, and the play by play is truly amazing. You really think you are watching the game, 2K has always been strong here after playing a couple of matches, I rarely heard the same things said in different games during pick up games, which is amazing. The announcers always have an amazing way in season mode/My Player mode of talking about when the season is coming to an end, and what place your current team is at in their conference which is amazing. They certainly put a lot of time and effort in the play by play which makes the ambience much better.

Controls: Not a lot to say here, in one word it's great. If you have used the 2K controls before it will be like second nature here, its very easy for even beginners to pick up and play. After one full match from the beginning to end, you will already have a strong grasp on the controllers. So just solid here, and still one of the best things about 2K basketball games.

Gameplay: A game changer, everything feels like its been improved from before. They still have all the legitimate traits of older games before this one. Lebron shoots like lebron, he has his signature shot, and his signature blocks, its scarily realistic with how they made so many players play like themselves. Tons of research had to go in for it to be this accurate. The new thing for this year is the jordan challenges. Believe it or not, this pays homage to the older 2K games. If you play NFL 2K5 (Rip) they had a mode where you can go back and play legendary games and win these game and do what those teams have done. Well, its back now, and you get to use all the amazing Bulls teams from 90's with Jordan. they also recreated all the rosters so that it is the same roster as jordan was with and the teams that he played against. So the challenges are like score 63+, plays his flu game, etc. Its really an amazing thing that they created here for the greatest basketball player of all time. The My Player mode is truly amazing, you start as basically a nobody, you create your character and when you are all finished you choose what kind of player you would like to be (scoring, passing, defensive, etc.) once you do that it assigns point to your player that can be used to build different stats. You start out in the draft combine, be impressive and you get drafted once you do, you start competing in the summer league. From there, now you are fighting for a roster spot, its really amazing and actually shows you the process of what these players have to do when they are coming to the NBA, amazing. Online, I have played about 5 games, and I have to say that its been great! No lag, and there has been no server problems which have been a huge knock on 2K basketball games online, it's looking good so far however.

EDIT 11/26/2010: Yep decided to edit this one, bought it since launch and I am still playing it even now, on black friday and also a month and a half after its release. The rating would not change at all this truly is an amazing game, you must try it for yourself!

Overall: IGN called this game one of the greatest sports games of our generation, and they are right. Nothing really quite matches everything it offers. If you play this game online and offline, you can easily surpass over 100 hours of gameplay before you know it. Throw in Jordan challenges, My player mode, and online in general, and you have a deep game with more to come back to each time you turn it on, THIS is what 2K basketball is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best. Basketball game. Ever, October 5, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K11 (Video Game)
Growing up I had the newest basketball game every year. Starting with Bulls V Blazers 92 playoffs game for SNES. You could play with Jordan in that game and it was great! I grew up a Bulls fan and followed them avidly.
NBA 2k11 helps Bulls fans, Jordan fans, and basketball fans, relive some of Jordan's greatest moments. You can also play with various Bulls teams, Lakers teams, Knicks teams, and other Jordan foes.
The gameplay is tightened and the graphics are jawdropping. Sure, there are a few glitches, but nothing that you wouldn't see in any sports game. Every player plays the way he does in real life.
The game mode where you create a player and get him to the NBA still takes way too long and still sucks. But if you bought the game for that then you're missing out on all of the rest of the good stuff. I highly recommend buying this game and you will NOT be disappointed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars NBA 2K11 is Legit, November 14, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA 2K11 (Video Game)
NBA 2K11 is an above and beyond effort by the 2K11 game creators. The past two years of 2K haven't been anything to special; in-fact, I was never a big fan of 2k. I always played "NBA Live", but since they converted that to "NBA Elite" (which is receiving very bad hype), I decided to go with 2K this year. Honestly, I believe I made the correct choice.

GAMEPLAY/GRAPHICS: Wow, those were the words that came out of my mouth when I saw the just a few of the game-play sample videos on YouTube. I knew the moment I viewed the game, this had to be purchased. The game-play is very much improved since the past few years of "NBA 2K". The motion of the players, the way the pass and shoot, it's all just so realistic. 2K11's game-play runs very smoothly. The same can be said for the graphics. The graphics are also very realistic. Some of the players and coaches look odd. Kobe Bryant looks like somewhat of an alien; while Golden State's coach, Don Nelson, looks like a marshmallow. With the amazing combination of the the game-play and the graphics, "NBA 2K11" feels like a real-life basketball game. (Overall: *****)

Sound/Controls: The sound is really good as well. The crowd really gets into the game and the commentary isn't as repetitive (thank god), which is defiantly something fresh for basketball games. The court sounds real; the squeak of the player's shoes and their dribble is very much legit. The soundtrack is also really good, with rappers/singers such as Drake. 2K11 put a lot of effort into this area, just as they did the controls. Not much can be said about the controls; however, it's extremely easy to learn how to use them. After a couple of games, you'll most likely get use to it and get into the swing of things. (Overall: **** 1/2)

Jordan Challenge: Simply amazing. This is exactly why 2K11 is so innovative. When I first saw Jordan on the cover, I knew something was up. 2K11 gives you the option to play some classic games of MJ in the "Jordan Challenge", such as the Flu Game vs. Utah, the six 3-pointers in the first half vs. Portland, and so on. I believe 2K gives you 10 game choices, which is a very nice selection. The "Jordan Challenge" is very realistic and very well done. I applaud the effort of 2K11 for giving us the "Jordan Challenge". (Overall: *****)

Final Judgment: This is the best basketball game ever, hands down. If your a fan of basketball video games, and you don't have this yet, pick it up. You will not regret it. This is simply the best basketball game of our generation.

(My Overall Game Rating: 5/5)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Basketball Game Ever, October 26, 2011

I bought this game because I knew the price of it would drop since NBA2k12 was out. Before I bought this game I had played it at friends houses and they all enjoyed it, I didn't at the time because I was not good at it. After playing this game I must say, this is by far the Best Basketball Game Ever. I will not go on any deeper into the game because it is "old" now and anyone who is reading reviews on this game now probably has a pretty good idea of the what the game is about it and how highly touted this game is. Nonetheless this was a great buy to me. ******Also since the NBA is currently in a lockout, NBA 2k12 rosters are the same NBA2k11s updated rosters, so this is just as good as NBA 2k12 (maybe even better), which I eventually bought.

Pros
*Great Mechanics
*Great Presentation
*Beautiful Graphics
*Sound builds NBA and Playoff Atmosphere Perfectly

Cons
* No Cons Great Game

******* SIDE NOTE: The depth of this game can be unbearable if you playing against and experienced player. There is slightly deep learning curve to this game. The difference between this game and NBA2k10 is like water and wine.

I love the game and all but do whole NBA teams miss this many layups so often? I don't think so. My player may not have much skill yet. Fine. But there are streaks where my whole team will miss layups and 3-5 foot jumpshots. Not a single player on my team will be able to score a basket unless it's a dunk. It seems like it is trying to keep the score close. BS. It is still very fun even though I get pissed pretty much every game about missing easy shots.

If you are just a casual video gamer who enjoys games that you can pick up and learn quickly then adjust the difficulty later... avoid this game. Controls are a major pain. AI for opposing teams is NBA All-Star level while the AI for your team is 1st grade level. There are no alternate controler setups that let you simplify the game. Instead you just have to bash your head against a wall until you learn them all.

In sports games I predominately play a My Player mode. In this game your player starts out rediculously low in skills. Compared to other NBA players you should never be drafted with how bad you start out. Earning skill points is a huge hassle. Much of your points are based off your teammate score. A sample of ratings is B, B-, C+, C, etc. That means the better you play as part of the team then the more points you earn. Make a basket on a wide open shot = 0% increase. Miss a contested shot = 50% decrease in your current teammate letter score. So basically you do something good and get 0 to 25% increase. Do something bad and get 50 to 100% decrease in your letter. After playing a total of 3 games I'm done with this piece of trash and regret that I ever got it. It's not even worth the $10-15 you'll see it now.

Maybe you will enjoy it if you are a veteran of the NBA 2k series but if you aren't then just wait to see if EA ever gets their stuff together and makes another NBA game.

The game is great but it has to many glitches, and its very easy to hack.

List of Glitches
Spin Dunk - automatic spin dunk that connects 9/10 times.
Post Spin Dunk - Once again, if connected, its automatic 2 points
Euro step - draws random fouls almost every time
pump fake - pump fake and draw a foul extremely easily
hop step - big man hop step in the paint and standing dunk

Hacks - On crew mode Shaq is shooting 3's, moving faster then CP3, and everything 99. I know a lot of people that Hack, and I know the hack myself, people even have 25ft players on crew mode.

Also 2k Servers are garbage. I have to change my time zone to London to find a match. Crew mode only works mid night. Very bad servers. 2k does not even work on it, on NBA 2k12 they took out the crew mode, instead of fixing it.

Also 2k has Jordan on the cover but you can't even play online with him. You can only play online with the current teams. NO 90's Bulls nothing, just stupid by 2k.

With all this said, the game is still fun to play when playing with friends.

The only reason I bought 2k was because NBA Live was down. This was my first year on 2k and I went on a 80g winning streak online (ranked). Its very easy and not competitive at all.

$30 for a new copy of NBA 2K11 is a great deal. I checked Gamestop before I purchased it here on Amazon and it was $32.99 USED. I'm glad I looked here. The game works great, no issues yet. Although, NBA 2K games have a tendency to get scratched inside the XBox while playing (faulty hardware?). The game came really fast and it's a lot of fun. If you like basketball, buy this game. If the price isn't around $30, I recommend waiting until the price drops. Also, it came with free super saving shipping. $30 with no tax and shipping.

I love NBA Basketball more than any pro sport. However, I tend to have more fun playing NFL or even NHL simulation video games. The NBA games have had a long history of not sufficiently conveying the talents and attributes of the players accurately. All the players were pretty much cut from the same animations and had virtually non distinct skill sets. Yeah, the old EA Sports NBA games would have the clownish "signature moves" of a handful of players but that is where the individualism would end. 2k Sports is attacking that problem and defeating it. I brought the Kobe Bryant covered 2k10 last year and thought it the pinnacle of NBA simulators. Very authentic game play and player representation, on a whole. Yeah I was kinda irked by the pretty uniform foot speed in that version. I also got irked by the inability to run a fast breaking player down from behind and swat their shots. Anybody who watches D Wade or LeBron ball knows that is one of their specialties. I would give 2k10 a 9.
But 2k11 is a WHOLE new ball game. The player skill sets and animations are SO authentic and on point I could swear the real NBA players have somehow gotten sucked into a TRON like video world and now play for my amusement. A player with foot speed blows by slower players. If you get sloppy with a fast break layup LeBron will run you down and send that shot to the trash heap. The game is fun. My only gripe is passing the ball can be a pain. Its like every CPU controlled player is Defensive Player of the year! If you pass they turn and steal the ball at least half the time. That can be a little unrealistic. However the game is still spot on outside of that.
And I would be totally out of line if I didnt mention MICHAEL JORDAN!!!!! HES BACK!!!! This is hands down the best MJ representation ever!!!! Jordan IS Jordan in this game. All his skill, all his swagger. Nothing was left out. The Jordan Challenges are so addictive in this game I want to do nothing else. I like how the Jordan from the earlier Bulls teams is a little different than the 90's Bulls teams Jordan. The 80's Jordan cant really make 3's but he is still unstoppable. The 90's Jordan is bald and will bury any wide open or quarter ending jump shot. Including 3's. And those 80's Bulls teams suck!!!!! You pretty much have to run every play through Jordan!!! That is what makes it AWESOME!!!!! The game knows Jordan is the marquee here and absolutely commands you to never let the ball leave his hands. Let Orlando Woolridge or an aged George Gervin shoot the ball?!?!?!? PLEASE!! The 90's teams are better and can be trusted with shots more. They also do a great job with Scottie Pippen. This is the first game where his unique skills are well represented. Usually he is rendered on "All 90's" teams as a long armed and ineffective player that is only good for open dunks. In this game he will steal anything not bolted down and harass any offensive player into a terrible game. Plus he routinely makes great shots. In other words, Pippen is Pippen too. Great Game!
