5.0 out of 5 stars 2k13 Maybe better than 2k11 October 3, 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Okay i rarely write reviews but i have some time at work to do so. Excuse my grammar ... i spend most my time typing on FB instead of term papers ;-).

The game is simply awesome. It seems like they finally got it right with the physics for this one. With 2k11 (lets skip 2k12 because that was clearly satans spawn) the game play was good once you figured out the controls, but they were missing the actual physic to basketball ... accurate first steps, bumps, defensive recovers, chase downs, spacing, etc. This 2k13 has simply put the NBA Players mind in the full frontal this year. I was surprised how fast and intelligent game play was this year. Please be advised if you dont have any concept of basketball IQ this game will not be fun at all. It seems 2k was holding back with their AI for the past couple of years because they flawlessly implimented most aspects of real NBA basketball. In MyCareer mode you get actual points for spacing or better known as "Good Movement" which is just as important as an assist. Back to game play though

Game play is freaking sweet. You cant just string together a bunch of dribble moves like And 1 "Hot Sauce" and expect to get past a player. You actually have to execute with 5 dribbles or less. D Wade isnt going to cross you up to the right and left then spin around to get to the rim, he is realistically going to blow right by you with a hesitation and examine ur distance from him ... then prowl towards you before doing a crossover and getting around you with a first step and if he cant, he will pass the ball, move with out the ball around a screen and get to the rim on a cut. Respect his Game!

Lebron is simply a beast, you cant guard him nor see him on the court he is beyond intelligent with and without the ball.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bar None The Best NBA Sim To Date October 2, 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Finally this day has come, my most anticipated game EVER! Why you ask ? Well I'm a huge bball fan I play the heck out of these games, and the improvements they made this year I just knew from the videos and information I've watched or read it was going to be the best 2K yet.

The game opens up with a edit page for My Player. What is this, where's my intro ? It takes about 10 minutes to complete your My Player creation, then the intro starts...Jay Z's music kicks in with NBA highlight videos & Jay Z screenshots of him performing on stage; a perfect marriage hip hop & the NBA. Could Jay be the next Madden? Once the video ends the main page is shown, your hub; your newly created My Player dancing to the Jay Z song in some chill outfit, haha! The default OKC vs. Heat matchup, and My Career. I selected the game and changed the teams to PHX (CPU) vs. NOR. I heard PHX is surprisingly tough and my online association league I am using NOR so I was geeked to try them out.

I immediately switched to the the 2K cam that I couldn't use in the demo (drove me nuts in the demo, broadcast cam ? Ahhh!) and had a blast, the gameplay was smooth, much more so than the demo. I didn't expect the final game to be so different from the demo, but it thankfully was. The demo seemed to plod along and to me it seemed like maybe the new dribble stick which is great, would hurt the flow of the game as a result, but that wasn't the case the game flows beautifully !

I played on Pro, now Pro isn't a cake walk in past versions. Playing against the CPU is always a challenge, even on rookie, but it seemed easier to me, which means maybe I can play against the impossible to beat CPU this season.

1.0 out of 5 stars NBA 2k12 with a new paint job December 21, 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
NBA 2k has become ridiculous. They are essentially releasing the same game as the previous year with very few modifications. They shut down the online servers from past years so people are more likely to go out and buy the new edition. If you buy the game just be aware that you'll have less than a year to play online before they shut down the servers and you'll have to go and buy NBA 2k14. Think of it as an annual NBA 2k subscription. $40-60 per year just to continue playing the same game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Umm, did not care for cheesy Rhianna's videos March 5, 2013
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Despite the addicting gameplay i was not expecting such a poor presentation from this game.! i have NBA2k12 and absolutely love every thing about it. Cant say the same for this one though. its still a fun game don't get me wrong. The developers changed some minor things about the controls... which some might find good and some might find slightly annoying. Its such a minor detail that it doesnt really matter. I just had to get past my initial confusion on the thumbstick shooting at first. What really made me sick to the stomach was all the cheese music videos before each game. Ugh it was like a poor early 90s MtV throwback except it had Rhianna. I know the studio wanted JZ to contribute to the presentation so the game can sell better but i really think it backfired on them. For know i will skip the terrible music videos and still play my NBA2k12

1.0 out of 5 stars VC system simply sucked February 21, 2013
By S. Fann
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3|Edition:Standard
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This game had a lot of pros going for it - an innovative (if perhaps overly complicated) control system, the ability to build a custom player, and the ability to groom a player from rookie to legend through his NBA career with VC (e.g. experience). Sadly, the execution of the latter was fatally flawed and is why I am taking it back <7 days after purchasing.

Perhaps the biggest flaw in the game was that it was more effective to grind VC from a mode called "black top" which is a lot easier and less realistic than the game play in MyCareer than it was to actually get VC from having your player progress through seasons. Win or lose, whether you use your custom player or not, your account gets credited 150 VC (160 if your team wins) from blacktop mode in about 15 minutes. In an actual season game, which usually takes about 30 minutes with all the load screens, time outs, foul shots, etc, it's pretty easy to get 0 VC and some of the best VC scores I've seen were around 100VC in season 1.

Another flaw was that the MyCareer mode penalized the player's "team score" dramatically, while it didn't give very much positive points for scoring. Assists would get very positive scores, and executing (hit or miss) a shot the game deemed appropriate for the situation would also get a decent boost, but scoring 3's, executing plays, and passing the ball didn't get you very many points. Scoring without any other bonuses would only get 1 or 2 VC. It also seemed very inconsistent about when you would get a team score boost. There were a few times I'd execute a pass leading to an assist and get some points, and other times I'd get no boost for the same situation. More infuriating than the inconsistent and weak bonuses to the team score were the ridiculous penalties.
