Best Basketball Game to Date.,

This review is from: NBA 2K2 (Video Game)
The NBA 2K series continues its domination of the basketball sports genre with NBA 2K2 for the Xbox. If you're a fan of the sports sim rather then the arcade style, then this game is for you. The graphics are gorgeuos, despite the fact that many of the players faces could have used some serious work (especially the coaches). The controls are the best, I especially appreciate the fact that they changed the dribble move from NBA 2K1. You no longer have the ability to just run straight at someone, press the juke button, and go in for an easy dunk, it requires much more skill in 2K2. They have also added a drop step manoeuver to the repertoire which is greatly appreciated. One thing that some might notice in the gameplay is that its much more difficult to block shots than it was in last years version as well. The game also boasts the same wide array of game modes as it did in the past, and I'm presently about mid way through my first season in franchise mode. This is also a great multiplayer game, and the ability to play street games again is tight. They have added about 4 more street courts over last year, and the indoor ones were a great addition as well. All in all, if you're a basketball fan I highly recommend this game. But then again, if you're a b'ball fan you know this is the game to get anyways....

Best Basketball Game Availible for the XBOX,
This review is from: NBA 2K2 (Video Game)
This is by far the best Sega Sports game and a great game for Sega's first for the XBOX. Basketball is my game and Sega's NBA 2K2 is definitely the best basketball video game available for any system. This game is plagued by only a few minor flaws. The gameplay is simply amazing. I like the idea of having a direct pass button on offense, and a button on defense to play defense like in real life shuffling your feet and all. Shooting is very easy and effective especially if you release the ball at the top of your jump shot. The graphics are great although not as good as EA's NBA Live 2002. The players are easily identified to their NBA counterpart and Allen Iverson has his Iverson shoes. The rosters are very up-to-date and if a trade happens don't worry about the game being out of date just go to customize to do the trade yourself. And when draft time comes around just create that player onto their new team. The Franchise mode is great. You get to lead your team through multiple seasons with trades, free agency, and retirements. You can also choose to play with the teams NBA rosters or do a fantasy draft where you can have any NBA players. The announcing is great although repetitive more times than not. When Iverson scores a lot they always say the same thing and are always saying the same thing usually twice a game, but they are still very realistic and actually seem to be watching the game unlike other games announcers. The only thing about this game that could have been made a little better are the graphics and the gameplay because when you post up you almost always get a wide open layup or step out of bounds for no reason at all. Overall this is the best basketball game available for the XBOX right now. This game for the XBOX is better than Live and is also available on the PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast.

Best Hoops game on ANY platform,
By
This review is from: NBA 2K2 (Video Game)
I used to LOVE EA Sports's NBA Live series. But, EA started putting emphasis on Dunks and fancy animations, whereas Sega's NBA 2K series concentrated on the nuances of basketball. Whereas in NBA Live every other shot is a dunk (even on the top difficulty level), in this game you have to work for your points, and John Stockton is not going to dunk on Shaq (Something that I saw in Live 2002; I returned that game within a couple of days). GRAPHICS: Very good. The faces and coaches could use some work, though. ANIMATION: Superb. The spins, jukes and dunks are all very real. CONTROL: Very good, with a bit of a learning curve. The new "deflect pass" option is the best innovation in years. OVERALL: A solid "A".

NBA 2k2,

This is the first basketball game i ever gotten. All the rest i have seen so far just wasnt worth the money. I love everything about this game with one exception. The Goal Tending calls are wrong. (called to many times, about 9 times a game).seen it happen to many times after a missed shot and players attempting rebounds, and getting called for goal tending. This is the only fault in the game and the rest of the game play is just awesome.realistic percentage shots. u wont hit every open shot. got to go now, i have to get a game in before wife gets home :)

So Close to Immortality,

This game is superior almost every category (gameplay, graphics, sound, fun, etc.) but falls short b/c of some silly decisions involving game play modes. You can't create a player and use him in Franchise Mode. If you play Franchise Mode, you must play an 82 game season every year (instead of shorter lengths available in single season mode). Those two things really made me think, "I wish they didn't design the game like this." But sure as sugar, I like playing and can't wait for them to get all the little things right next year.
