This review is from: NBA Hoop Shots: Classic Moments from a Super Era (Paperback)
Before Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird entered the NBA it was a very second-tier sport. Attendance was low and the play was often boring, I knew few people that watched regular season games. As is mentioned in this book, games in the finals were shown via tape delay rather than live. Once these two stars arrived, it all changed, professional basketball quickly caught national attention and then global attention.Despite their talents, Magic and Bird did not play in a vacuum, surrounded by other stars, they were the consummate team players and their teams went deep into the playoffs every year. This book is primarily a series of action shots of those stars in action, and they are exciting. All of the major stars of the 1980's and early 1990's are featured doing what they did best. With the emphasis on images, there is little supplemental text, so the person that does not recognize the players on sight may have difficulty appreciating the significance of the image. This is a coffee table book, one that you pick up during dead times such as television commercials. The images are often so spectacular that you could view them many times and never get tired of seeing them. |
