I usually don't participate in these things, but I felt so strongly in voicing my opinion.

I was excited when I was on my way home after I purchased NBA Hoopz for my Sega Dreamcast. I was a big fan of NBA Jam during my high school and college years, but I was quite disappointed once I began to play Hoopz.

Although Hoopz continues the Midway Sports tradition of no rules-parody sports, I was disappointed that they included foul limits (five per quarter) in this version. One of the best features of NBA Jam or NFL Blitz is that you can do anything to your opponent (shove, clothesline, drop-kick) and get away with it.

The audio for Hoopz often causes me to scratch my head. Why do I, as the home team, get booed from the home croud whenever I start getting a hot streak or if I foul an opposing player? I often find my home fans cheering for the other team. The announcers often yell 'rejected' or 'get that shot out of here' even though the ball goes in. I can't help but to laugh when I hear the announcers butcher Peja Stojakovic's last name or when he calls a play wrong.

The best thing about this game however, is the fact that it is the closest thing to a modern day NBA Jam. It's a faster paced game than the 'reality based' basketball games which keep me from getting bored. If the minor glitches can get fixed by the time NBA Hoopz 2K2 comes out, I'll be the first one in line to get it.

NBA Hoopz was the first game I played as I purchased my Dreamcast and I must say the excitement I felt for playing this game vanished after a few days. I am a MEGA HUGE NBA JAM FAN and I thought that this incarnitation on the series would be the bomb but it just bombed!! When Shaq or Karl Malone become 3 point threats late in the fourth then you know that the game is crap and DOES NOT FOLLOW STATS. Why put stats in the game if EVERYBODY can dunk and run up court dribbling the ball behind their back. NBA Hoopz is rediculious. This game has the poorest graphics of all incarnitarions to date even the SNES versions seem better than this crap! Players look terrible in game and worse in replay! The game is also missing the magic and fun of any other NBA Jam games, Midway has no excuse for producing this mess. The 3 on 3 was a nice idea but POOORLY implemented as the 3rd player just becomes a useless object on the court. This game could have included some strategy to take advantage of the 3rd man but it does not! The sound and commentary are poor as the anouncer incorrectly calls a LOT of plays, he hails a block when it has obviously scored etc. If this is better than NBA Showtime then I am affraid to even look at that because I never thought that any NBA game could be this BAD. I MEAN BAD!!!!

Stick to NBA 2K2 which is MAD and leave this as a distant memory!
