NBA Live 14 has a long ways to go before it can give real competition to the other guy, but I do see potential in the foundation of this game.

Game Play:
The Good- The dribbling system seems very smooth and realistic. You can really tell a lot of effort was put into this part of the game to set up the future additions to game play.

The Bad- To many times it feels like I'm helpless when playing the game I don't know how each player shoots, and so I have missed so many shoots, and easy lay ups it starts to frustrate me as I try and enjoy the game. Free Throws, and Jump Shoots both have the same problem. You can't tell when a shoot looks good, or if it's bad. I feel like I'm throwing up prayers every time I take a shot.

Presentation:
The Good- This other thing I liked about the game that stood out to me was the nice halftime show, and commentary. Both of these seem to be some of the best I can remember in any sports game I have played.

The Bad- The halftime presentation also has a downfall. It's to long and drags the game out a little bit to much, Main menus are not bad but seem hard to read, and follow, but all in all I give this part of the game a thumbs up.

Graphics:
This part of the game was very disappointing to me, as it seem to be no upgrade what you would have seen in NBA Live 10 which I still have and play now and then still, so if this is the only reason why you buy the games then you might want to rethink...

You can tell this game has issues, and needs work, but if you want to experience the best ball handling game out there you need to at least give it a try, but if you can see the big picture, and can have an open mind you can see where this game can go.
Heck if the game had a shoot meter, and or a tutorial explaining how to shoot it would improve the game leaps and bounds!

I've given this game a lot of tries because I know it's gotten a bad rap. I wanted to make sure that my first impression didn't dictate my review. Unfortunately, it hasn't done a lot to help itself.

First, the graphics - compared to the competition - are not good. The in-game characters look poorly constructed and remind of sega genesis (not to say they're that pixelated but it is difficult to discern between players unless zoomed in). It's a surface level complaint at best, but still turns me off.

What really irked me about the game is the gameplay. While in the game, you HAVE to call a play to make things happen. In basketball simulations (and when playing in real life) I don't call a lot of plays. I call for picks on the fly, drive the lane when necessary, pass appropriately, etc. In NBA Live 14, if a play isn't called, everyone stands still. Very frustrating. For me, it makes the game unplayable. If you call a lot of plays, it won't be as big a deal to you.

A couple of pros, though that kept it from getting 1-star. First, the physics is much better than the competition. Everything seems smoother, more fluid, and a little more natural. If the graphics matched that, I think it would be an excellent combo. Second, the menu and menu graphics are MUCH better than the competition. 2K's 2k14 next gen menus are terrible. They have little innovation and are difficult to navigate at first. Finally, there are very few bugs. I personally noticed almost no bugs on Live 14 even after almost 100 hours of gameplay. 2K, on the other hand, has a lot of issues in gameplay.

All said, I didn't like the game. The few redeeming qualities it has are largely overshadowed by the inability of the game to think beyond user controls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Try again EA Sports January 30, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox One
I was so excited to see the NBA Live franchise reemerge, but have been sorely disappointed with the results.

Horrible gameplay! There is a distinct lag in your player following through with the commands given.
Examples:
1. In a Rising Star game the other night I was guarding Tyson Chandler one on one near the basket as the shot clock was winding down. I knew he was about to shoot so pressed the button to jump and attempt to block the shot. My player froze. Chandler went up, took the shot, it came off the rim, another player for his team rebounded it and went back up and dunked it. Only then did my player finally jump for the block. This has happened repeatedly but it is not constant.
2. Several times I have been called for a 3 second violation because I move into the lane and suddenly my player won't accept any input, he just stands there until 3 seconds is called.
3. Often in a close game, in the 3rd quarter, the other players on my team will not pass the ball when I call for it on 4 or 5 consecutive trips down the court. This always happens in the 3rd quarter and always when I have closed to within a few points or taken the lead.

These are just a few examples of many. Used to love this series, but I'm ready to sell this one back and jump ship to NBA 2K14.

1.0 out of 5 stars Atrocious. Gameplay and Graphics are Awful August 26, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Verified Purchase
Most likely the worst NBA Live game I've ever played (and I've played them since NBA Live 2001). The game is terrible from graphics to gameplay. It's truly atrocious. I bought it for $11 bucks and even that was too high. Bargain bin game for a kid maybe who has no idea what basketball is about... Do it right and pre-order NBA 2K15
