4.0 out of 5 stars Nba Showtime or Nba Jam Millennium?
not much to criticize about this game except that this is for Nba jam or hangtime lovers. But, lovers beware! This game has gotten a new few rules such as no more than 5 pushes to the person carrying the ball or a 3 point free throw is given to that team. When you are on fire, you can only make 5 fire shots in a row then it turns off. So, what I am trying to say is that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the typical NBA Jam game
I've been collecting NBA Jam games since the original came out for the Super NES and I'm still a major NBA Jam fan, but NBA Showtime is a MAJOR disappointment! After playing the first game of it, I realized that it's far from being the normal NBA Jam calibur game that all the others including NBA Hangtime were. What ever happened to the no fouls? I only defeated the computer by 13 points the highest. In Previous Nba jam gams I could win easily!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool, November 12, 2002
This review is from: NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC (Game Cartridge)
NBA Showtime was the newest incarnation of the very popular and ongoing NBA JAM series except now it went a little more high scale because it takes the NBA on NBC jingles, videos and of course the stills and visuals of the NBA on NBC TV programming.

Like all NBA JAMs, totally outrageous basketball from start to finish. You can expect anything and everything in this one from more out of this world dunks to being "On Fire" shooting and of course the newly added alley oops and free throws. Yes that's right, no more shoving your opponents all over the place because now they get 2 foul shots, each worth 3 points a piece (and even Shaq can hit these free throws!)

You can even create your own character and build that character to be the best as you take on the entire NBA in 2 on 2 mayhem. You also get to answer NBA trivia (just like on TV during games). Pretty cool.

I'd get this one because I personally think that this is NBA JAM at it's best. Very fun and also very cool to play with friends. Especially if you and a friend are good enough to pull off the triple alley oop pass for Team Fire. Again, check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun game that is hard to put down, June 27, 2001

This is a really great game that is non-stop fun. The graphics are really cool. You can also do cool dunks and moves that make the game fun.If you want a game that is like the NBA this isnt the game for you. The only thing I don't like about it is that their isnt a season mode so playing by yourself isnt as fun as playing with your friends. I really enjoy this game and I recomend you get it.

You can't even push down anybody more than 5 times anymore. And this is NBA Jam we're talking about? The only improvement in this one over NBA Hangtime is the graphics. The graphics are pretty good, the crowd and the reflections on the floor were cool. But everything else about it seemed dead.

It just seems like they rushed through making NBA Showtime because it is far from being as good as all the other NBA Jam games were. If you want an NBA Jam game on the N64, get NBA Hangtime.

5.0 out of 5 stars NBA Jam Reincarnated, November 24, 1999

This is NBA Jam at its best. If you loved NBA Jam, this is the game for you. Good graphics, create-a-player, multiplayer, high speed, and just all-out fun. In create-a-player, you can choose many faces, including about half of the mascots. The only thing is, its a little too much like NBA Jam. But it doesn't matter, buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back to NBA JAM in 3D, June 9, 2011

This review is from: NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC (Game Cartridge)
I can't believe I did not know this game existed till yesterday, I always thought the NBA games on 64 where between decent to really bad, but this one surprisingly seems to be the best one out there that the 64 produced. It's NBA JAM but it's been updated into 3D polygons. Now, sure, I will be typical and say, I still prefer the SNES versions or the Arcade over this, but for what this is, and the low expectations I had when trying this, it really was a surprise just how good it was. I had pretty much given up on NBA JAM when the 64 came out with NBA HANGTIME... the A.I in the game was just frustrating and I felt I could not just relax and enjoy the game without the computer just irritating me, but I am glad to say that MIDWAY figured that out and made this game a lot more relaxed and fun.

As I said, it's NBA JAM, so you should know by now how the drill goes. It's 2 on 2 basketball, crazy dunks, wild shots, and just a lot of slapstick fun to be had by anyone willing to play. Some changes have been made to the game since Hangtime, there is now a foul system that prevents you from shoving too many times, resulting in the opposition receiving a free throw, and if they make it, they get 3 points... which is rather unfair as the computer never seems to ever foul you, but you foul them, and they get one shot from the foul line for 3 points, and it hardly ever misses, I think I have seen one shot miss out of about 100. But at least there are codes that allow you to turn the fouls off, but that can be a pain in the butt putting in the codes every match, it would have been much better for it to have been something you can turn on and off in the options menu.

Unlike previous NBA JAM titles, this one has pretty much everyone that is expected, with the exception of Michael Jordan. But Payton, Barkley, Shaq and all your favorites of the late 1990's era are present in the game. If only Jordan had have been licensed to be put into this game, it probably would have been more popular then it was.

Most of what made the original NBA JAM series fun is still present in this game, even tho it has gone into the 3D realm, its not all that much different. Some things might look a little weird, but the gameplay is still fun. The only thing I would have liked to have seen more of would be hidden characters you actually want to play as, it seems Isiah Thomas is about the only legend you can find a hidden player of... the rest are all mascots and pretty much every one who worked on this game from Midway. If only Jordan, Bird and Magic Johnson had have been brought on board, the game would have rocked on many levels.

Something that has not been improved on much is the create a player option. Once again, not enough faces to choose, and being that I am Caucasian with long brown hair and not a skinny face, I was just about offended to find that there is only 2 white people to choose from, and one of them is a woman. However, something you can now do in this one is on the initials entry screen, you can punch in the first 3 letters of the team a player is rosterd on, then for the pin, enter their jersey number (example HOU for HOUSTEN, 33 then 2 blanks) and you can now have Scottie Pippen on whatever team you want, so rejoice for us Bulls fans there, but you can also do this when selecting your created player... once entered, it will tell you that name is reserved, but after you put in another name and pin for yourself, when you get into the create a player options, you will have that NBA players face and look etc..

Well, overall, there probably is a lot of things that could have been better, but overall, it's a pretty good game, and I would recommend it, I've actually enjoyed this more then the recent Wii version, and as I said, I only discovered it yesterday, so I can't comment on the replay value, but as for right now, i'm heading back to play it again right now.

NBA SHOWTIME IS A COOL GAMe! if you like basketball on n64 get this one! it's fun. shaquille o'neal is on the cover of this game
also on nba hoopz. this game is from the 1998-99 season. my favorite player is ray allen from milwaukee bucks.
good 3-pointer, makes more than 50% of his 3-pts in this game.
if you are home or away and you choose ray allen go on the left or right side between the 3-pt line and the crowd and he will shoot it good. he will not make every time. if you get 2 or 3 in a row, his 3-pt shoots will be on fire.
there are also shaq, kobe, kevin garrett, muggsy bogus, charles barkley, larry johnson, patrick ewing and other good/ok players.
that's why i rated it 5/5.
