4.0 out of 5 stars MAKE IT A GAMEBREAKER!
One thing you must know to play NBA STREET HOMECOURT: The key of any game is the GAMEBREAKER. Once your trick meter is full you can activate the gamebreaker by stepping into the yellow circle in the center of the court and pressing triangle. At this point, you can freestyle dance/dribble and really make some crazy combos. BUT BE CAREFUL. If you get TOO FANCY you may get...

If you're looking for an arcade basketball game, this is it. If you haven't played an NBA Street before, they are some of the most quality arcade basketball games on the market. Gameplay consists of many tricks and maneuvers to gain points and there is a lot of dunking involved. The game isn't realistic to any degree, but is a lot of fun to play co-operatively or competitively. However, the game does get boring pretty fast and therefore is only worth it if you plan to play it casually with friends.

At this point, you can freestyle dance/dribble and really make some crazy combos. BUT BE CAREFUL. If you get TOO FANCY you may get your gamebreaker swiped by the other team. That's when things can get really interesting. Overall, this is an extremely entertaining game and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to have an all out, crazy, unrealistic dunk-fest. By the way, that's not a bad thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Even Better Street!, February 23, 2008

I've played all of the NBA Street games since the PS2 and Xbox versions. I think this is a nice fourth installment. I questioned it for some reason last year when I had it for the 360, but I purchased it for the PS3 and I really like it. It has a very high replay value. Unlike the NBA Live 08 or NBA 2K8, it's fun and not too serious. I mean all the power up moves are like NBA Jam (arcadic). I just think when you play video games they should be fun and no too serious. I like how you can play w/ or w/o a shirt and being a female I like the WNBA option as well. All and all it's a lot of fun, plus now it's like $30 not $60 like when it first came out and that makes it even better.

You cannot go wrong w/ buying or renting this game, you won't be dissappointed.

Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this game!, December 26, 2007

I dont know why so many people have been hating on this game. I think it was a great first NBA Street game to hit the next gen systems. I dont think any NBA Street will be as good as Vol. 2 but, this game still has a lot to offer. In High Def it looks awesome, and although almost all of the tricks and dunks are totally impossible to do in real life, it is still really really fun! Plus now that the price is dropped its not hard to find this game for under 20 bux.. definately worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing NBA Street., August 9, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA Street Homecourt (Video Game)
NBA Street Homcourts been around a while now, and its a good game to play over and over. NBA street series have always been one of my favorite sport franchises and Homecourt is no different. I bought this game back in March with no hesitation and never regreted it. The game is a lot of fun like past NBA Street games, but this one is a lil different from the rest. NBA street has always been famous for its cool smooth AND 1 type tricks like Back 2 Papa and all dat but this game takes it to another level, its not exactly a good thing but its a nice new thing that EA is trying, there is something called a TRICK REMIXER which changes the tricks a lot easier from holding the shoulder buttons and tapping square to only two buttons (The Square button and the Triangle Button). The graphics are of course the best right now and character models of NBA stars are better than ever. There are a bunch of new things like double dunks which are crazy and a lot of fun to do, the new gamebreaker which is a little bit harder to pull off than the Past NBA Street games but satisfying when you do. The thing that disspoited me was the lack of customization whcih was one of my favorite things that were added back to NBA Street V3, the customization is a lot more linear here with putting on only Jordan wear from shoes to tops all Jordan and nothing else. Its not very fun anymore to create a character. The new story mode for your custom character is very good, following the old formula, starting as a newb to becoming a local street legend, with RPG type elements like leveling up your skills and of course your character getting a personal Nickname. The Game has a retro type feel to ot from the music to the narrator and style of te game. There is online mode but not that many people play it (trust me). NBA Street Homecourt is a very fun game with cool moves, cool music and fun gamplay, altough not the best its a very very fun and great game that you should buy especially of you have a Playstation 3 like me

2.0 out of 5 stars Adequate arcade-style basketball game, January 12, 2011
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NBA Street Homecourt (Video Game)
In the vein of NBA Jam, NBA Street Homecourt is an over-the-top arcade style game. Being an arcade game is not a good or bad thing in itself, it's merely a style. However, this game is more style than substance.

If you like to do ridiculous dunks over and over again, do fancy dribbles with the ball for no real reason, and sink 3s from halfcourt, you may like this game.

If you actually want to play basketball, you probably won't enjoy it as much.

The core of the game revolves around a stunt meter, which you fill by showing off with dunks, dribbles, and plays such as alley-oops. When the meter is full, you become more powerful, gain a new set of moves, and can score up to 7 points with a single basket. The gameplay is repetitive with little in the way of tactical options. Defense consists solely of stealing, goaltending, or body-checking a dunker midair.

In Career mode you create a team of ballers by [bizarrely] combining the heads of real-life NBA players. Mine looks like the love child of Rip Hamilton and Yao Ming. You have the choice of guards, forwards, and centers, whose skills you can improve as you gain experience and levels. Skills are improved by using them - dunking a lot will level up your dunking skill. New courts and opponents are unlocked as you level up by completing challenges against local ballers. Along the way, more players will offer to join your team, so there is a relatively simple and straightforward roster management game there. You can then use your custom ballers in the other modes, such as Exhibition and Online play. You can also use real-life players instead.

Multiplayer is fun for casual play, and there is a ranking and stat system for online play. However, being with a group of friends and trash talking can make just about any activity fun.

The visuals are run through a sepia filter, to imply that the game is really a review of the past, a memoir to the rise of the great street baller [you!]. This theme is carried throughout the game in the menus, which have an 8mm film look throughout. I found the brown tones boring after a few hours and wished for a change in scenery. The models and environments are adequately made, while the animations are quite good. Players move with fluidity and the 1080 spin backflip dunks really come to life.

Verdict: fun for casual play, rent it or get it on the cheap.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

After all these years, this is still a great game. Roster is a little dated now but that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable with a group of friends. For the price you can find it for now, a great buy!

It's a good play. Moves are a little hard to master. Speed is a bit slow and it takes some time to build up your skill levels for you attributes. Still enjoyable to play and not made I purchased it.
