4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for even non-basketball fans
NBA Street Vol. 2 is an engaging, colorful hoops title that is perfect for gamers who flip the channel whenever real basketball comes on the TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for even non-basketball fans, October 8, 2003
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
NBA Street Vol. 2 is an engaging, colorful hoops title that is perfect for gamers who flip the channel whenever real basketball comes on the TV.

The game centers on casual 3-on-3 pick-up games set in a variety of urban settings. You can pick players from any NBA team, a roster of All-Stars, or a pantheon of famed ballers from NBA history. You can also create your own hoops star, tweaking a portfolio of skills like "dunks" and "handling" and even picking hair styles and outfits. There are several play modes, including quick, one-off games, an NBA Challenge against various teams, and the "Be a Legend" mode that lets you develop the career of your streetballer, improving his skills and upgrading his shoes and wardrobe as you dunk your way across the country on courts from New York to Seattle.

The controls are a little intimidating at first, at least to folks like me who don't play a lot of sports titles. I imagine hard-core NBA gamers will have a much easier time mastering the various moves. But there is a nice tutorial that takes you through everything, and the game turns out to be one of those "easy to learn, difficult to master" exercises.

The graphics are pretty solid. The characters are fairly realistic with a bit of cartoonish edge to them. The moves are nicely exaggerated, i.e., players can soar several feet above the basket on their way to slamming down a spectacular dunk. There is nice variety in the appearance and skills of your opponents, who can range from towering men with afros to petit women in tank-tops. The wide selection of courts is also nice.

Finally, apart from the traditional street scoring of one point per basket up to 21, there is a cool system for awarding points based on style and combinations of trick moves. It is challenging and rewarding to pull off a string of moves that results in an eye-popping alley-oop that nets a huge score.

The drawbacks to the game include long load times and a rather confusing array of menus and options to get a game started. I have also had the game freeze on me several times while starting a match, though this problem seems to be cropping up in other games I have and may be a problem with my machine.

I have been addicted to this game for a couple weeks now and expect that it will be the first sports game that I play all the way through. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for all types of players, May 23, 2003
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
A great casual-fun sports game, NBA Street 2 lets you take your favorite NBA pros out into street games. Trick shots and signature moves make the game interesting.

A great training area lets you learn all the moves with as much time as you need. Replay each type of move as many times as you need to, and get yourself comfortable.

There are over 150 players to work with, from all eras of basketball heroes. The range of moves to use and unlock is pretty amazing, and there's a wealth of locations and gameplay to keep things interesting. The game starts slowly enough that even thoughs not really familiar with basketball can learn as they go.

The graphics are great, with well animated figures doing amazing moves and looking quite realistic. The graphics are on par with Dead or Alive III, with leaves floating down and skidding along, great textures on surfaces and nicely done shadows.

The sound and music really draw you in. There's a great selection of music that cycle in the background, and the 'commentator' has some brilliantly funny lines. Of course usually your friends in the room are cheering over his comments, as you execute an amazing triple-trick move and trash your opponents.

Really a fun game even for non-sports enthusiasts. If you enjoy basketball, you'll become addicted and be dreaming about the game when you finally get some sleep!

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as a basketball game can get., August 31, 2003
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This game is just too good.NBA Street Volume 2 is as good as a basketball game can get.In my opinion, this is the best basketball game ever made. Its really, really fun and you don't need to be a huge NBA fan to play it.There are old school and new school players and all the official teams. This game is very fun in multiplayer too.EA Sports BIG/NUFX should really consider supporting some of the good Xbox features in the future though, like custom soundtrack support or Xbox Live play. That would be great.Nevertheless, this is still an excellent b-ball game that is true to the game. This is how street ball culture is.If you need a very fun basketball game than you can't go wrong with purchasing this game.Theres not really much to hate about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for non-simulation people!, April 25, 2003

Sam (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This game is perfect for people who want something different from simulation basketball games ... This game is a fast paced, high flying, nice looking, type of basketball. This game has the main elements that made NBA Street successful plus many more additions to its options and gameplay. Finally you can play with 4 people. The graphics are almost identical to the previous game NBA Street. The only thing I didn't like is the lack of online game.
I gave it a 4 out of 5 ONLY because I'm a simulation fan, but when we're not in basketball season, I tend to play "arcade" games more often.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, nothing to get excited about though, June 22, 2004
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
Now that more and more nba games are comming out on the three systems consisting of PS2, Xbox:):), and gamecube:(:( you kind of know what to expect, especially from these extreme nba games like this one and nba ballers. The basic point for this one, street 1 and ballers is to pass the ball, pass again, perform trick move, and score. The com will sometimes block it, sometimes not. So it basically turns into a luck game. In terms of stealing, the com will hardly get a good chance to successfully steal the ball from you as long as you perform a trick move such as act a fool, or in this case y and b which perform different trick moves. Or if you want to be fancy shmancy then you might pull both triggers, click the left thumbstick and push x or y resulting in a more advanced trick move resulting in more points. One thing that i do not like about this game is the gamebreaker move. While it takes away one point from your opponnent and adds one to yours, i don't think that that is enough considering how many tricks and shots you have to pull off in order to get the gamebreaker meter full. Even the gamebreaker level 2 meter isn't enough. Special meters such as the ones in NBA jam and nba ballers, (particularaly ballers:) are a little, or in ballers case, a LOT more rewarding. But, as you can see by the amount of stars that i gave this game, there is a lot to the game that i like, such as, legal goaltending, (this can get fun.) Instant replays are way out sick and the soundtrack is totally awesome. Did i mention the Old School Ballers. THey are so sweet its not even a laughing matter, well maybe for someone who laughs a lot it is, but besides that its definetely not. Also, the create a team and create a baller is tight. Now, on to the things that i dislike about this game. One thing is the graphics. Those definetely need working on for nba street volume 3, (hopefully:). Also, like a previousely stated, its basically the same concept as ballers and jam with the same style and "trick like" moves. The one thing that i hate about this game is the dissapointengly short season. It took me three days to complete it TWICE! So dissapointing. The last thing that i don't like about this game is that it does not include the xbox live feature. Do you know how much fun this game would be if it included this. I'd be playing it from dawn to dusk no kidding. Looking back on this review, i probobly would give this game a 3 1/2 which you know, isn't all that bad, but there are certainly definetely rooms for improvement. Now, the list.

Pros

-Great Old School Ballers
-Completely up to date rosters, (I think:)
-Nice instant replays
-Create a baller and create a team are totally outrageously sick

Cons

-Horrrrrrrrribbbbbleee graphics
-Lack in player models, (which i guess is the same thing as above)
-Unbelievebly short season
-No Xbox Live! WUT!?!?

Mindue, there haven't been any EA games that have been on Xbox live, at least none that i recall. Uhhhhhhhhh...No!

I hope this review was helpfull.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, June 16, 2004
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This game is great. Once you get it down, your ballin up. Its not very realistic, but thats kinda the point. The stuff the players do are INSANE! Theres really only one thing to do when you sorta go into a career mode. You get well known and stuff. But after that its not 2 fun. But when you start over its still koOl. GET IT! (if u dont have it!)Later.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME ROCKS, May 23, 2004
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This is an awesome game for all you ballers out there. The graphics are hott and the gameplay is awesome. It was way more tricks and way better players than volume 1. The nasty dunks and dope dribblin skills make for one of the best basketball games ever. Whitewater can jay, bonifide crashes boards, stretch dunks, biggie little dribbles, and osmosis blocks like whoa. Plus it has all the NBA teams, and even some old school bballers. This is a must have for any basketball fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars L@@K! READ THIS! L@@K! (13 years old, not 12), July 22, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This game is one of the best games anyone can play! It is really easy to learn how to play it, also.

You can go to Street School and learn the basics of the game. In school, you learn how to pass, block, shoot, dunk, do tricks, and a lot of other stuff.

You can go into Pick Up mode and play a game that will get you practice before you start a campaign. I suggest that you do this first after you complete Street School.

You can jump right into a campaign and play NBA Challenge where you are an NBA Team challenging every other NBA Team in the league.

You can go into the Be A Legend campaign and create your own baller to start it off. In creating a baller, you can choose his/her height, bodily shape(meaning, if you want your person stocky, athletic, lean, or massive, which is a mix of stocky and athletic), skin, face, facial hair (if a male), clothes, shoes, and adjust his/her stats with the rest of your development points. Development points are what you use to buy new shoes, clothes, or upgrade stats.

In the game you can unlock street legends, like Stretch Monroe and Biggie Little, NBA Legends like Michael Jordan and Bill Walton, jerseys worn by legends that you can wear in Be A Legend, and you can win trophies after you complete one part of the game or the other.

If you buy this game you won't regret it. If you rent this game, you may very well regret not buying it first. Anyways, take this review in your head with you to the video game store or use it to help you buy it on Amazon.com and remember what I said, "Buy this game when you see it, it's that good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the most fun basketball game I've ever played, May 13, 2003
This review is from: NBA Street Vol 2 (Video Game)
This is one of the few xbox games that felt like a winner on the first play. The learning curve is very fast, so my friends could all pick up and play also. The different modes offer a lot of fun, and the be a legend story mode gives the game a lot of depth. There are a ton of custimization options for your created baller. Plus the graphics and sound are really awesome, and the player animations on the trick moves and the dunks are great too. My only criticism would be on the tournaments-generally you play against one team, then the boss team over and over. Still, an awesome sports game that is instantly fun and endlessly playable.
