Any real fan of the NBA and its history should own this book. Wonderful pictures on each page with interesting quotes and stories throughout. Does a good job of showing the evolution of the league. NBA at 50,
This review is from: NBA at 50 (Paperback)
This book just seems ancient now, but it captures the first 50 years of the league as well as anything. This is a good coffee table book.

I bought this book for myself right before the start of this year's NBA season to get in the mood for basketball again which is my favorite sport. This book does a great job in covering the history of all the NBA seasons from 1946-1996, the first 50 seasons, covering the great players from Wilt Chamberlain to Michael Jordan. It's a must have for all fans of basketball.

The First Fifty...,
By
This review is from: NBA at 50: NBA at Fifty, The (Hardcover)
"NBA at 50" is a lavish celebration of the National Basketball Association's fiftieth anniversary in 1996. A visually stunning collection of photographic essays, in coffee table-sized format is enhanced by some candid commentary by the players themselves and an introductory essay by famed author (and basketball fan) David Halberstam. The biggest single attraction of this volume may be its identification of the best players of the first fifty years of the league. The choices are sure to stir memories and maybe a few debates, as each of the chosen get a page or two of quotes and pictures. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan get their fair share of space. The supporting essays may be equally worthwhile, walking the reader through a brief historical perspective of game preparation, game day, and after the game. Nearly all the players described in the book have moved on to their lives after the game, some to the Hall of Fame, but this is a highly recommended look back for the dedicated fan of an NBA now in its sixties and still going strong.

A Wonderful Synopsis of the NBA's Best,
By
This review is from: NBA at 50: NBA at Fifty, The (Hardcover)
Although some will debate whom is the greatest player alive, the NBA got this list correct. The pictures are phenomenal, the history and statistics amazing; a must read and purchase for any true fan of the NBA. There are comparisons between players, not only at the same positions, but at different positions in different eras. All the information you need to put together a strong debate on the NBA's best. A wonderful book!

By A Customer
This review is from: NBA at 50: NBA at Fifty, The (Hardcover)
This book celebrates a league where greed now dominates, but where players once played for the fun of it. This book gives a nice summary of each of the NBA's fifty greatest players, and vividly describes the league throughout its first fifty years of exsistance.
