OK TV Special...not good enough for DVD box set,
By eXuS (Ontario, Can) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NBA's Top 10 Greatest Collection (DVD)
I am a true B-ball enthusiast...so i will truly try to point out the pros and cons.
Pro. Four games from the past 4 decades (questionable picks however) -Lakers vs Knicks 1970 (willis reed comes back from injury) -Bulls vs celetics 1986 (jordan 63 pts double overtime...come on the best game of 1980s ever?!?!...Jordan loses...2nd round game...Jordan puts up about 50 shots? to do it))-1998 Bulls vs Jazz (ok yes i agree ... bulls 6th ring) -2004 Lakers vs Spurs (fishers comeback shot with 1 sec) again not even a conference final OK all of them are good games...but you see my point...No lakers vs celtics in the 80s?... Anyway...the games are a good watch. Cons: 10 Categories voted on by the fans of NBA.COM to comeup with the #1 of that category. So top 10 finals moment, new star, dynamic duo, etc... I should point out that this special was a History Channel Special featuring 4 old superstars (yes old and biased) and 1 young Espn Sports writer (not a good mix). So all you see is 2-3 clips on each category, not even all the choices available on the voting list. No special features seperate from the tv special on the first dvd. So you get a 45 min special and 4 games for almost the same price as buying NBA 25 Years of Champions or any of the Dynasty box sets (well those are $10-15 more) You don't get to see enough of each category. Like clutch performance...it shows Reggie's 3pointers against the nicks, McGrady 2004 3pointers, and 1 or 2 others. No ISSAH THOMAS 16 points in 1:30, no Jordan against the blazers or utah, no Bird at all, no Magic, Nothing. Overall, this is extremely disappointing and definitly not a 5 star anything.

Disappointing picks by the fans,
This review is from: NBA's Top 10 Greatest Collection (DVD)
I think that the games selected by the fans' votes for each of the decades are disappointing ones: http://www.nba.com/features/greatest_050713.html?rss=true
1970's: In my opinion, Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals between the Suns and Celtics clearly was the best game of that decade, given the choices we were given by nba.com...close game, triple overtime thriller. 1980's: Although the 63 points by Jordan vs. the Celtics was a great individual performance, it was only in the 1st round of the playoffs and the eventual outcome of the series was really never in question. The Bulls weren't any good as a team at the time. The fact that ANY of the great Celtics and Lakers duals (or Celtics/Pistons, Pistons/Lakers) in that decade weren't selected shows how very little knowledge many fans have about the history of the NBA. 1990's: I can't really complain too much by this pick since it was a great series between the Bulls and Jazz (in both '97 and '98 finals) capped off by MJ's last shot with the Bulls. But only complaint is that this game is already in the Ultimate Jordan collection and the Bulls dynasty series so there's nothing new added. 2000's: The Lakers & Spurs game had a fantastic ending in game 5 of that series with Duncan's shot and Fisher's answer but the game was sloppy and horrible up to the great ending. Plus, it was only the 2nd round of the playoffs. Couple of other games that should have put instead are the Lakers/Kings game 4 of 2002 west finals, or Spurs/Pistons game 5 of the finals this year, both with awesome endings provided by Robert Horry. I would have bought the DVD if better games were selected by the fans, but unfortunately such isn't the case.

NBA Top 10 Greatest DVD,

This has got to be one of the worst NBA DVD's ever. A panel of judges stuck in their own era. Very little highlights and videos. Very unsatisfied

Very poor value,

This is a very poor DVD set at any price, and especially at this inflated price. The clips are very short, and there is far too much empty meaningless talking - the analysis is poor and pointless, and not what people want for their money anyway. We want to see extended clips of all the greatest plays, with insightful commentary and comparisons, not a bunch of guys sitting around chatting, with just a few second-clips here and there.
Extremely disappointing. The 100 greatest plays DVD is far better than thsi.

Games are excellent but I wanted to see more stuff from top ten candidates.. First DVD seems to be made out of a TV program and there is nothing extra on DVD version. There is mostly talk and just a peek of action..

You have got to be kidding me with this! The greatest game in NBA playoff history is ACTUALLY omitted from this dvd set! Not only that, according to this set, it's not even considered the greatest game in the 1970's for Pete's sake! There's no comparison between the 1970 Knick/Lakers game and the 1976 Suns/Celtics game. Its like comparing Rosanne Barr to Heidi Klum! I understand the significance of the 1970 Knicks game. It was game 7, the Knicks were huge underdogs, the magical appearance of Willis Reed, blah, blah, blah. The game was a blowout! No last second shots, no questionable calls, no unbelievable turnarounds, no multitude of subplots, no fans brawling with refs, no coaches passing out from mental exhaustion, and no OVERTIMES!! In fact, I consider the last 19 seconds of the second overtime in the Suns/Celtics game to be the most exciting segment in the history of professional sports, period! If you don't believe me Knicks fans, STOP SNIFFING THE GLUE AND WATCH IT!!
